SIB Day - The vast majority of Hawk fans were staying at the Embassy Suites in Richmond. A group from Drexel had made an adjacent motel their base. The Drexel crowd and the Hecklers (from The Dub) had interacted with good natured ribbing & "heckling". The Hecklers paid a late night visit to the bus from Dexel. They proceeded to leave a shoe box hidden in the bus. The box contained human excrement intended to provide an aroma for the Drexel students to "enjoy" on their return to Philly. Incidentally, the content of the shoe box was graciously donated by a VCU student who had become friends with the Hecklers. Needless to say $hit In a Box Day was born.

Per Brant, UNCW’s MBB roster page has been flipped over to 2021-22, and at the moment at least, Ty Gadsden, JaJuan Carr and Brent Jenkins aren’t listed.03-banghead

Okauru and Estime are listed as Grad Students though. 4 open scholarships with 1 offer that we know of to Ezuma of Hargrave.

So with no Carr, that means coach shot a whopping 25% in his first class. Call me skeptical all you want but that doesn’t give me confidence in complete reconstruction of a roster

RE: Looking to next year: Hoops
The most interesting to me is if Estime' actually returns and plays. Gives us another upperclassman who can score in several ways and can shoot the three ball. And no, it's not that bad. Our bigs were the great unknown last year, and now we know. Dodd wasn't going to get his scholarship renewed and Bowen was just serviceable at the five. If McGriff can just get some rebounds, get some junk point on offensive rebounds, and block some shots, we're already ahead at the five. Seems coach knew Carr wasn't going to pan out, so he went after Thomas, who I really like. If you ask me, we got rid of some dead weight. Yes, I really liked Boggs and Pridgen, but both could only play the four on a Siddle team. Pridgen didn't have the outside game Siddle wants in a four, and if Boggs didn't want to play and defend at the four, he wasn't going to fit either. What Siddle values more than anything is versatility and the ability switch back and forth between several positions.

So, next year looks like this:

PG - Phillips/Thomas
2-3 Okauru/Harvey/Estime
3-4 Sims/McCracken/White
5 - McGriff

Okauru, Sims, Estime, Phillips are all upperclassmen in reality. Every one of them has proven they can play at the D1 level. Phillps, Okauru and Sims are a great core and if Estime can come back, I had him as a starter last year. It's easy to forget how good Estime was when he played. In HS he shot 40% from three and led the state of Georgia in made threes as a Senior. I'm a little hesitant to pencil him in based on his history of injury.

So, If we have three starting guards that are all upper classmen, that's a good core. Now we have three scholarships to go after immediate impact transfers. Two at the five and another four with size who can shoot the three ball. Heading into a new year with only three scholarships to fill isn't the end of the world. As bad as we need some real big men in the post, we couldn't have kept Dodd, Pridgen, Boggs or Carr and had any scholarships to go after them. Boggs was the biggest loss to me, because he had all the ingredients Siddle wants in a four and we'd have only had to go after two post players.

I have to wonder if Siddle knew that Dodd and Bowen weren't really a good fit coming in last year, or if he felt he needed to give them a chance? It's funny how many people were outraged when Keatts came in and immediately got rid of some dead weight, but when Siddle didn't do it, and the guys he kept didn't pan out, he's hammered just as much. What would the reaction have been if he came here and immediately sent Dodd and Bowen packing and tried to replace them with transfers? He took a chance on Dood, Bowen and Steere at the five and none of them worked out. Two he inherited, and one was his recruit. Replacing them with quality big men will be his biggest test as a recruiter. If McGriff works out, he only has to hit a homerun with one more good big for us to compete at the top of the CAA.

You always plug on Joe havening no outside game, You realize he shot 42% from three at Holy Cross? Yes he played inside a lot last year but he had too! I said it once, I'll say it again. Someone like Joe is a PERFECT fit for this system, 3, or 4 because he can rebound great for his size. 8.2 rebounds per game at the 3 or 4? Sign me up! And, if he needed to be the 4, we lost both anyways. We certainly trimmed some dead weight, no doubt. But we can't just simply dismiss that A, he's batting 25% on his recruits, HIS RECRUITS. And B, we lost two of the best three we had coming back. That hurts.
Yes, his recruits so far look good on paper next, but they did last year too. I need to see more than a 25% hit rate before he gets the benefit of my doubt, sorry.

Not dismissing anything, just not jumping off a cliff and acting like we just lost the pieces to a top level team. We didn't. We need big men on this roster more than anything else. If we had kept both Pridgen and Boggs, we'd be right back where we were last year. We'd have McGriff(an unkown freshman) and one scholarship to go after another big. Which means we'd have two unknown big men. That's not enough. This leaves us with a solid core of guards, and the scholarships to go after two more big men. Then we'd only need one of the three to be starter quality, and one of the other two to come in with some solid backup minutes.

I hate to break it to you but Boggs wasn't a top 3 returning player if he came back. Shy, Harvey, Okauru, and Sims are all more important than him. The Pridgen loss hurts but y'all are starting to overate how good Boggs actually was here. He's a fine player but give me the 4 above before him. Shy and Okauru will be All-CAA next year

Okauru still isn't guaranteed to come back. Harvey, COULD be good, but we don't know He showed solid for a freshman but still needs a ton of development. Boggs, when he was able to play in HIS position, was Very very good and a matchup nightmare. Disagree. You guys sure put a lot of stock in unknowns.
If you take the knowns before transfers I'd have had them like this: Shy, And Boggs, Simms, Joe in any order. And you are also discounting that Joe and Jake accoounted for about 11-12 boards per game, on a team that even with them got SMAShED on the boards.

Boggs.Phillips ,Sims and Pridgen easily the 4 most talented players on the roster and if you lose two of those guys from a bad team where does that leave you ? Phillips is the key piece I think but to lose players who can compete is a huge loss and thinking you have freshmen coming in to take these minutes is iffy at best. Getting lucky with a transfer or two would be huge for this team but we all know that is a slippery slope. Terrible job of retaining your players in the first year has to be a concern. The good news is the CAA is just a weak conference and if you can get decent talent you can compete immediately .

Mullet and I are in agreement here. Though, I feel like everyone is viewing Boggs' talent through whichever lense we see Siddle in. If you're all in on Siddle and think he's going to resurrect the program... you don't see Boggs as a top talent. If you either don't think Siddle is going to get it done or are in "wait and see" mode, than those folks seem to take the opinion Boggs was a top talent here.

That seems to boil down where we are on Boggs' time as a Seahawk.

That's a fair assessment, but in the end, numbers don't lie. And when he wasn't asked to play out of position, his numbers are very good. Sadly, we had a coach that forced a 6'7 180 pound kid to play out of position all year so that sample size is small.

There is so much unknown with this roster. It lacks depth and size obviously, but counting on Shy and/or Mike to be all-CAA next year, or counting on McGriff and a future unknown, uncommitted big for us to be competitive is blind optimism.

The biggest concern for me is that we’ve taken a step back. This year was unique and challenging in every way, but we’re looking at lower expectations in year two of Siddle than year 1. That is a concern.

Let’s wait just a bit before forecasting doom and gloom. I personally have a different take on some of these guys that left. The guys staying and coming gives me some optimism. Heck, You’re getting a good shooter back and that is huge in Estime. Why do you think we struggled so much at the end? Nobody was a true 3 ball threat and, of course, no size. Getting Sims back with a healthy Shy with Mike and Jamahri in year 2 is a good guard/wing nucleus on its own.

Let’s see after Spring recruitment ends.
