Agree. Boggs can be very good but that’s as a 4.

Yep, Boggs is not a 5, period. It's kind of like when Keatts played Dylan Sherwood at the 5. It also shows that Dodd is not getting it done.

If Bowen is gone, Siddle should go after two big men and move on from Dodd. From what i've seen, Dodd just doesn't have the fire and aggressiveness needed to play DI ball. And, unfortunately, that's the one thing you can't coach or teach.

I can’t quite figure out Dodd. He has the body of a pound it inside 5, but lacks the height. He has the height of a stretch 4 but lacks the athleticism needed. He seems like a great guy and has an infectious smile. I hope things work out for him somewhere.

Too bad Steere didn’t work out. He would have been a perfect 5 for us. 6’9, experienced and athletic.

I really think we look at a transfer as well. Even with the season that was this season, Siddle still got a decent look at his roster for next year, the team has will be a little better prepared for next season knowing his expectations and system, and I with all players getting an extra year, we may be able to add a big via transfer. Hopefully Siddle's ACC connections help with that piece.

You're way to focused on this year, under the worst possible circumstances with injuries, shutdowns, etc. It's apparent we've seen the last of Dodd, whether he wants to stay or not.

So, we should have plenty of scholarships to fill out this roster. I just hope the bad "vibe" of this year doesn't cause
any more defections.

Need toughness and hoops IQ as well. We played dumb tonight and soft. Need bigs badly that can play.

Everyone keeps talking about competing for a CAA championship next year.

Sorry. I’m not seeing it. We’ll be lucky if we compete for 6th place. This team just isn’t very good, and I don’t see enough in the future to significantly change that.

What, exactly, did you expect? We played the fewest games in the conference that played the fewest games...BY FAR.
We've played exactly two games in two months prior to tonight. Our last game we suited up our team manager we were so shorthanded. We lost our starting PG for the entire season, until he played his first game last week. We lost a senior guard before the season started. We lost our leading scorer to injury over a month ago.

You guys act like we're playing against opponents who all suck, and we can just show up and win. Even people who are normally level headed can't seem to grasp just how hard it was for this team to get any continuity or traction to even get motivated to play. For Gods sake, they don't have enough players to practice full court games. Is this really that hard to understand?

RE: Looking to next year: Hoops
All good points 82. Sims would have been big tonight for sure. And, Shy isn’t fully back yet.

The downside is that the offense was not good from an execution stand point. Tribe packed it in and we did not adjust well to it. Too much dribbling going no where and then shoot a contested shot when drive and kick or a ball reversal to a post feed then kick back out if not there for open looks. We could have lived with that. Boggs could have helped in that regard if we could have had him pick and pop to draw their bigs out from clogging the lane.

We were a minus 12 on glass. That is a roster problem that can be and must be addressed if Siddle wants to start winning. You can not win like that consistently- not that big of a disparity. And, we need to just guard our yard better too. Bigs can erase mistakes too. Boggs and Pridgen had a few blocks, but we need an intimidating presence.

I get the excuses, I get it. William and Mary dealt with the same covid adversity.
If we fought, like even Elon, it’s one thing. We played a sloppy, uninspired, undisciplined game reminiscent of the CB era. THAT, is concerning regardless of what happened last week or last month. Coach CHOSE, to take a few chances and bring in question marks and they didn’t pay off. THAT, is why we had no depth even with the injuries. If they panned out he’s get credit, they didn’t he gets criticism that’s how it’s works

He can change it next year, if he doesn’t he deserves every bit of criticism he will have coming.
Bright side, I now have Flo and I can watch the coach of the year tomorrow

Sounds to me like you can join CG and become a fan of another CAA team. Have fun. I'm sure they have some good gear on sale. I'm not sure why you insist on the McGrath comparisons when there is simply no comparison. It makes you look childish, but keep it up.

Coach took one chance, on one player, and it didn't work out. Give it a rest already. Best part of last night is that the season is over and your ignorant rants are gone until year.

I sat this year out just like the CAA wanted. And I'll wait until we can actually recruit, actually play games, actually have fans, and I'll judge this coach and this team on an actual season, not this half assed CAA Frankenstein season they cobbled together with stupid scheduling, stupid protocols and spare parts.

I guess we can skip over to the baseball thread where you'll be calling for Randy Hoods head next.

I agree with 82 that we faced unprecedented adversity and disruption this season and so it's hard to know just where the program stands looking to next year. W&M played a great game last night and we sure didn't. Hate to end the season like that. But I was feeling very positive about the direction the team was going before January and the CAA craziness and all the other disruptions. I'm still optimistic for next year.

The way they played last night was CB esk. Sorry but that’s a fact. Coach hood wins btw..., so know I won’t be calling for his head.

Osprey- while I agree, other teams dealt with a ton of adversity too. Including the team that took us to the woodshed last night.

82 As much as you are critical of game play, I just can’t see how you let a game like last night just get a pass. If you have a team full of guards how do you get beat off the dribble over and over and over? Going out like that leaves a stale taste in my mouth and I was very complimentary of how they fought back in the Elon game for the record.

You can't take anything from this year. With all of the starts, stops, isolation and disruptions, it is hard to tell who is any good. W&M got shut down for multiple weeks twice. Plus, life in general as we all know has been far from normal. I am just glad some games were able to be played at all. You guys will be back and much better. If things are more nirmal in the fall, we will see a more normal UNCW. If lack of playing and practice is a factor, Drexel and W&M should do well today since Charleston and Northeastern have bedn shut down for weeks.
Last night did make me long for the past days. The play was much better, and the games were more fun. But, i am proud of the teams. It hasn't been easy at all for any if them. Phillips is a star, you could see it even last night.

RE: Looking to next year: Hoops
Looking to next year, who is actually staying for another year? That is a question at this point. On paper it looks like Mike,Ty, John and Jay are seniors and leaving. Two other spots will be freed up with Steere and Carr (assuming) he's gone. We have 4 recruits in place therefore we will have 2 spots to give out to bigs. Let's assume that there will be 2 grants available to bigs even if Mike or Ty stays because it's probable that at least 1 will transfer-happens everywhere.

Coming in you have a very talented group of guards in Thomas and McCracken. For UNCW to get back to the top IMHO, you really can't stunt the development of these 2 guys. They are definitely the future backcourt for this program and both are tremendous players. They need minutes in year 1. I have not seen much from White but he can help with WF depth at least. McGriff will have his chance in year 1 since UNCW basically has a real lack of inside game at this point.

Players coming back/their role plus quick synopsis:

Phillips-PG-Needs to be the QB of team (embrace that role)-paint touch guard/can defend-needs to get up shots (improve arc on shot). Must be able to knock down mid range and 3 ball. Gets to where he needs to-a keeper.
Harvey-SG/WF-Good defender/Can shoot deep ball-needs to be drop dead 3 ball guy-work on drive/finish-team guy.
Sims-WG/WF/PF-Scorer, but glue guy-Must be a leader-does a little of everything-must embrace on ball defense.
Boggs-PF-Can really shoot 3-needs to improve defense/get stronger-cannot just walk into screens/needs to play with fire. Must work on finishing drives hard at the hole and to contact.
Dodd ©-Must play with intensity for longer stretches when given the chance. Needs to get caroms and timely blocks on a more consistent basis.
Pridgen (WF/PF)-Glue guy that does a little of everything well on both sides of ball (also leader qualities). Must work hard to be consistent 3 ball guy-shot presentation is good but needs a bunch of reps to feel good. Has good drive and post moves.
Tolafree (WF)-Can be an asset off bench with tough physical defense-must play to strength of drive hard to contact but come to 2 foot stop if not there-shot presentation not bad-needs more reps to feel good?

Siddle/staff-Needs to develop a consistent half court offensive strategy that plays inside out ball with ball and player movement. I see a lot of pocket dribbles going nowhere-even spacing was an issue last night. Half court defense needs improving as well NEED a defensive post presence at all times. Need to go with more of a 2/2/1 as a staple zone press with better guard your yard work. CAN"T allow a guy to beat you strong side without any help. Ridiculous. I would have called a TO and been furious. No passes on that.

Tribe was blowing up are high ball screen with hard hedges and hustle back while we do basically none of that action and just switch so nothing is blown up/too soft. Perhaps this will change when personnel allows it.

My 2 cents...

Crazy. One and done in their own building, after blowing a 15-point lead.

I’d rip on JMU further except I want Byington to do well.

Shouldn't rip on anyone this year, that's the point. The COY of the year had the POY when he arrived, and he went out with a season ending injury, and now the COY doesn't look so much like the COY.

Personally, I want a strong CAA again, and expect that Byington and Siddle will bring both schools near the top of the CAA. But i'm not into the compare/contrast nonsense surrounding them. I'm just ready to get this Covid stupidity behind us and get excited about some recrutiing and then on to next year.

Dang apparently Byington got a bogus T late in the game for "arguing with the ref"

Here is the CAA statement courtesy of our awful commissioner
