Not saying y’all are wrong, but a minus 7-10 on glass is not a winning formula. And, we need some resistance at the hole for their 5 men.

Just chiming in here...

Without size, run and gun and hit 3s wins the CAA, but doesnt lend you for much potential success beyond that. It wont fly against the major conferences. You need some length and true wings that can stretch to compete against them, even with a run and gun system.

FYI, in Keatts last year we beat Towson by 10 twice and were outrebounded by 10 and 11 in each game. We can win and lose the rebounding battle. since that isn't what we rely on to win. Different strategy. We of course need to get better at rebounding, that's a given. But having four centers on the roster doesn't solve the problem since we play a four guard set.

Who wants 4 centers on this roster? Some feel that they only have 1 right now. One-two more active true bigs would help.

It isn’t sustainable to get dominated on the glass unless you are either excellent at causing turnovers or incredibly efficient at scoring. Those Keatts teams were freak shows.

Bottom line, giving up offensive boards is like a turnover because it’s an extra possession. Need to break even or be ahead as a general rule. I always tracked boards and it is generally a very telling stat.

I've put up the roster multiple times and it doesn't seem to be sinking in.

Dodd, Bowen, McGriff are all post players with zero outside game. They will all play the 5, not the 4, and Siddle is not going to get another 5 on this roster. So, unless we lose one of those three, that's who we will have next year. It's the entire reason I keep saying I think Dodd is gone after this season. That would allow Siddle to go after a true big and not tie up four scholarships for one position. Bowen isn't really a five if you get down to it, but he's better than Dodd. He's a four in a set that has a PF and a center.

Yes, you get a year back if you want it so eligibility class does not change. Not everyone will take advantage of the rule.

No way Siddle keeps four 5's on the roster. If we have Bowen, Dodd and McGriff, that will be it. I think Dodd is gone myself. Especially if Bowen returns for the tournament and he sits.

Dodd looked completely lost in the Elon game. Quite frankly he just filled minutes. He doesn’t fit Siddle’s system. He is not tall enough to be a 5 nor athletic enough to be a stretch 4 in the system.

With regards to Bowen...We need to move on also. I’m sure Siddle can find an upgrade to him in this seemingly chaotic transfer offseason.

RE: Looking to next year: Hoops
Bowen is gone next year- he said that the other day because he is graduating and moving forward. Hopefully McGriff can be a center in this system and flourish but I worry about his girth as a freshman.

There is no doubt that at least 1 more big is needed. The coach knows this and has already offered several. If there is not room on the roster, obviously that’s different and could be the case. Since he is offering these guys, it indicates that he feels he needs it.

If Bowen is leaving for sure, then yes, we have room to go after a big man. I also can't see Dodd staying when he is behind Boggs...AT CENTER. So, we will have McGriff and room to bring in two big men if Dodd and Bowen aren't here. I don't see how we can do worse than where we are now.

FYI, I'm going to reference the post from Dan just above yours. Yes, that system can easily win the CAA if it's implemented well... but it does us ZERO favors when the committee locks us in against P6 opponents with size. Watched that show... was super fun until the NCAA tournament games.

Of course, but getting size that is that talented takes time. Once we rebuild the program, we can start getting better recruits with that kind of size. Keatts started with a focus on scoring ability regardless of size, because it's easier to get those players. If you look back at the roster he had coming in before he left, he was bringing in quality size. One step at a time.

Over the next three years I'd take 3 CAA regular season titles and 2 CAA tournament championships with an 0-2 competitive showing in the NCAA tournament. I want to take the next step, but the NCAA tournament is a major accomplishment for UNCW basketball. I'll gladly watch that show again.

I would too, but in order to even get that show, with Bowen gone, we are short about 3 big men Given Dodd really hasn't given us much either. Boggs shouldn't count as a C, he needs to be in the 4.

As it stands right now, IMO... this team shows signs of improvement from the McGrath era, but still not able to get back to the top of the CAA.

Hard to gauge with bigs situation as it stands. Shy is top notch, Pridgen is very good as is Sims. That’s 3 guys any CAA team would kill for and all are back for at least another year. Time will tell. Harvey will be at least solid and the recruits are terrific.

I will just add that these seniors are good ball players and it’s a shame that it hasn’t shown up in the win column like they deserve. Hopefully they go out with a loud bang.

I view this as a team that will get to the top 4 next season. This year was a sh*t show but just look how much better we looked with a very rusty, not well conditioned Shykeim Phillips coming off the bench. A full season with him at the point is enough to call this team a contender right away next year.

I'm confident that is coming, but even in a worst case scenario where Boggs is the primary 5 next year, this team can finish top 4. Shy is that good, plus we'll have Sims back.

It just would make it a difficult path to winning 3 straight in March were we wouldn't be the favorites.

We need AT LEAST one experienced big transfer to compete for a CAA title next year. We were overmatched against teams in the CAA (that we played) who had at least one decent big. Bowen is not a 5 on a CAA Championship team. He would be a serviceable backup. Dodd just doesn’t fit as a 5 in a Siddle system.

Agree. Boggs can be very good but that’s as a 4.

Yep, Boggs is not a 5, period. It's kind of like when Keatts played Dylan Sherwood at the 5. It also shows that Dodd is not getting it done.

If Bowen is gone, Siddle should go after two big men and move on from Dodd. From what i've seen, Dodd just doesn't have the fire and aggressiveness needed to play DI ball. And, unfortunately, that's the one thing you can't coach or teach.
