Another departure within WBB program
Senior forward Tatyana Davis has entered the transfer portal and has left the program with zero explanation.

Not a huge loss. Obviously some stuff went on- Davis never lived up to her promise as an athlete. Don’t see this as an example of a downward spiral.

We keep losing players. 3 by my count in the past year. This one is at a really odd time during the season. Concerning trend.

This program should be on auto drive for any coach. Great facilities, great fans, great winning tradition. The recruiting, retention of player and coaching goes right to the top. And it's not trending up.

Given all of the above it’s time to look for a new HC. Won’t happen until MOB is gone, but it does need to happen.

Auto drive for the youngest team in the league by far...ya okay. Our WBB program shows ability to knock off the top dogs but cant shoot pretty much ever. Thats the problem. Not play calling, defense
... straight up making shots. Blame recruiting or whatever but we were picked 7th and will end up 9th. You know who was picked 11th? BGSU, and they won the league. We returned one starter? 2 left to transfer (NOT OUR CONTROL).

This is not news. Don't let the door hit ya on the way out.
I would rather find a new transfer or Freshman to come in and take her place. Hell, give Sammi her scholarship next season and move on.

Sammi already has a scholarship, and Davis would not have counted toward next year's allotment due to the coronavirus exemption.
I really liked watching Davis. She worked hard and made a lot of spectacular plays, but she also made a lot of mistakes. You could tell that Cullop always had issues with Davis. Davis would get pulled quickly after a mistake, and she was always a bit short on playing time. Still, she helped us win some games over the last couple of years. I hope that she finds a place that is a good fit for her final year.

I bet Knapke would have if Ohio State gave him the option and so would Willy if his boyfriend was a linebacker in the NFL... wake up.

OK, but still, it's not quite right to say that losing players is always out of a team's control. Some programs regularly lose more players than others. Over the years, the Rocket women have been really good at hanging onto players. The only ones who have transferred under Cullop, until Beacham, were players who were not able to contribute. Now this is the second year in a row that we have lost a contributing player. We do not know the reasons that Beacham transferred, but it is definitely the case that, until the second half of last season when Whitaker was injured, Beacham never got the playing time that many fans thought she deserved. And anyone could see that Davis and Cullop always had their issues. Maybe that was entirely Davis's fault, and there is nothing Cullop could have done. There's no way for us to know that.

Hasn't the women's team lost entire classes in the last 3-4 years, thus leading to our youth. Then add in transfers. How in 2-3 short years has BG regrouped with a new coach and our established coach with a better recruitment package seems to keep misfiring on recruits and having upper classes leave? I don't follow the women's team as closely as the men, but my 1000 foot view is that the women's team in the MAC should be top 3 year in and out.

And they were, it seems, for awhile. This group has a star and a decent core. Just young and inconsistent. I think only frosh and Sophia played against BSU.

RE: Another departure within WBB program
Davis had 3 games left in her career, and was not a major contributor. Don't know why folks are freaking out about this. Clearly there was some off-the-court issue recently. Cullop coached her on the bench as much or more as I have seen her coach any player, and was always quick to give her praise in pressers when she made contributions. She had loads of athletic ability, but in too many of her appearances she made multiple silly mistakes almost before getting onto the court that too often changed momentum. Not sure how much more Cullop could do.
Also, note that Black did not transfer, she graduated, and as far as I know has quit basketball. Unsure why. Last I saw she was in LA working for an internet sports media startup. I imagine that isn't a full time gig, but not sure what else she is doing.
By my count, in 13 seasons, Cullop has had 16 of her recruits transfer out, and 5 that left for other reasons. For comparison, in 11 seasons, Kowalczyk has had 25 of his recruits transfer out and 6 leave for other reasons. By that count, Cullop is not doing bad at all. Cullop has also lost 5 players to medical disqualifications, which of course is not her fault. Kowalczyk had 4 players transfer after last season. Anybody want to have those 4 players back on this year's team?
In another tidbit, I see that Ariel Cumming (dismissed by UT, moved on to Chipola JC, and then to WVU) has announced she is transferring again from WVU.

BTW, Beacham had 2 rebounds and 0 points in 8 minutes of play in a loss to Indiana yesterday. Ohio State is ineligible for the Big Ten Championships and NCAA Championships because of NCAA violations.
