I don't think we need any other tools. We can run the ball down anyone's throat. I don't think stacking the box is going to work against us. It will only open up easy short to mid-range passes which will lead to more total abuse from our run game.

More than any other year ever, I just don't think we need to pass the ball. We should be concentrating on our strength, and that isn't slinging the ball all over the field with the best stable of studs in the country in our backfield who are playing behind possibly the best O-line we have ever had.

Every time we pass, we deny a precious rep for our running game.

I'd lay the 21.5.

Total 47

Roughly the betting odds are predicting a 34-13 game.
Last week was JMU -38.5? Was too high, should have been more like JMU -31..Yeah, JMU only won by 20. If you take away points off turnovers (RMU 10, JMU 5 if you include the safety) you have 31-7 (RMU PAT instead of failed 2 point). Ignore the CJ INT that was more like a punt, and figure if CJ doesn't throw those other 2 then JMU scores on at least one of those, and you have 38-7, 31 point difference. If JMU goes up 45-7, then the backups come in earlier, and maybe it ends up 45-14, still 31 points.

Now @ Elon should probably also be around JMU -31. Even then I might take the over on JMU.

What typically can blow up the difference is turnovers and that had not really fallen in JMU's favor so far. We get a plus 2 or 3 in TOs this week, and it could get ugly.

If Greene-machine is able to start this weekend I think you’ll be right. He’s a big heavy with some wheels, a skinny frosh QB may well be terrified seeing that rumbling up his center avenue.

It’ll be duck and chuck at least 7 (or more) times this game, 3-4 resulting in free football for our O.

Question is, do we return the favor or take advantage? I think we’re the more mature team and do the latter.

Most of all, I want to see this team MAD after last weekend. They should be, and if this game is even remotely close I have serious concerns for the rest of our season/postseason.
I'm not concerned about the passing game YET. Thankfully, we only need an average passing game as our running game is going to be the main part of this offense. Reduce the turnovers and we'll be fine.
JMU 45
Elon 10

In the event that things go right and JMU has the opportunity to run up the score, they really shouldn't. We'll be playing Elon again in a few weeks, and in a season where failures are much more obvious than successes, giving them a reason to settle the score is not a risk to take. If it looks like JMU needs "big wins", they can run up the scores in the 2nd games against W&M, UR, and Elon. But right now, just make sure your affairs are in very precise working order.

If JMU has a comfortable lead, great. Put the subs in and see what work they need.

No, never do that.

Snot bubble em and let them know we’ll be back in a few weeks.

Leave them with no hope of ever competing

And what happens when a team does stop it? When we went to a run only offense against UNI it wasnt like we cruised up and down the field. That was with a QB that teams knew could be a threat btw. 60 carries for 189 isnt the greatest and there will be a good defense in the playoff that will slow us down, to think otherwise is ignorant

I agree with you somewhat but for other reasons. I’m more concerned with the schools packing it in and calling it a season quickly. Elon is already down to QB3, I wouldn’t be shocked to see them opt out of the season. Why risk injury when you have no hope at anything and are getting slaughtered? We need these schools for a run up to the playoffs far more than they need us. I’m not saying hold back, but if we blow out Elon 73-7 tomorrow will they stick around for a rematch?

RE: Week 3: JMU at Elon
Here is what I want to see 369 yards rushing, 5/6 rushing TDs (PAO (2), Hamilton (2), Vanhorse and either Palmer or Black), 2 passing TDs and at least 1 FG for a final score of:

52-3.

I'm also looking for Robert Morris to upset Manmouth.

Shouts out Bawlmer Duke for hooking me up with Elon tickets. Helps ease the sting of getting shutout from the JMU home games. Will be there today rootin!

According to another Elon fan in that thread, if they want it more than we do, we're in big trouble.04-jawdrop

I'm not suggesting that we don't pass AT ALL. I think we should pass just enough to keep the defense honest. I believe that is 10 or 12 passes a game. If I recall correctly from the stats against Bob, we ran only three more running plays than passing plays and Bob ran more offensive plays than we did, obviously due to three picks. Cole doesn't need to throw 20 to 30 passes a game. THAT is a recipe for disaster.

I see why Cig did it, to build the confidence of his quarterback, and it worked like a charm. Cole now has that confidence, but I fear he can lose it quickly with another performance like the first half against Bob. Hopefully, he picks up where he left off against Bob and his passes continue to be clean, crisp, and on the money. I was very impressed with Cole's decision-making in the second half and going through his reads. He was finding the open man with ease, a testament to his pocket poise and awareness. Having an awesome offensive line helps too.

I don't think there is a team in FCS that can stop our running game. We can be lackadaisical at times and look past an opponent (Bob Morris), but that isn't facing a superior defense, that is beating ourselves. The best defense in the country also resides in Harrisonburg. Whose defense do you think can stop our run game?
