Definitely Brannen's fault that his shot got worse, he turned the ball over more, and his effort level fell off a cliff after the NBA walk-throughs that told him he wasn't an NBA player. Averaging 4 minutes per game in the G-League...I presume that's Brannen's fault too
Oh well, it's always someone else's fault nowadays.
I get the feeling it’s not all the X’s and O’s...I think JC thinks Brannen’s a jerk. I’m sure the feeling is mutual.

Come on! The smallish lineup of Mikey, Mason, Mika, Dav and Tari whomped Tulane. But Memphis basically hurdled most of them for rebounds. A big wing (because both KW and Harvey are out) and a big man (that can allow Tari to stay at the 4 full time), are each a must. Yes, this nucleus has me excited, but JB, don't pretend we have a pat hand.

“Sorry guys, looks like we’re screwed...”
First, i'm not one of the haters. Second, i read the comment in the tweet, i didn't hear the audio; but the comment reads as flip and dismissive, and, by extension, disrespectful. All caveats applied, his team got its arse kicked by a very good but not great Houston squad. They have lost games that they probably should not have; and there have been long stretches where the play on either or both ends of the court have been atrocious. i think he deserves time to coach, recruit and develop the program as he sees fit. imo, he doesn't get room to be disrespectful given the way the team has showed itself at various points this season.
Is our fan base really that sensitive? Sheesh. Coach believes in his young core. I don't mind a coach with a little fight/feistiness in him. Sure, he's taking a bit of a risk talking like that and will need to back it up, but I'm glad he's confident in what he's building.
i ain't concerned about the likes of me. Whatever my criticisms, i doubt they are reaching him. That said, he's hearing about it from someone, or maybe a number of ppl; ppl that are of enough concern that when they are critical or questioning, those things reach him. Those folks might view that response as a little too cavalier given the current results. All speculation and projection. All the same, discretion, perhaps, is the better part of valor all things considered.
I know what you mean. I re-read my post, and wanted to clarify I didn't mean that you specifically were sensitive. There's definitely a fine line between believing in yourself as a coach and just being an arrogant prick without much to show for it. We'll see which side of it Brannen ends up on.

Going to be a lot of available options to pick from for next season...hopefully third time is the charm on the transfer market and the young core has a great offseason.

I don't think it's unreasonable as UC fans to expect Brannen to find one or two missing puzzle pieces in the portal and take this team back to the NCAA next year. Going to the tourney regularly is the bar that was set by Mick.
I fully support Brannen, especially in the 2021 twilight zone season. But I also believe he's capable of having a team that should regularly beat the bottom 2/3 of this conference and win enough against the top 1/3 to return to the NCAA Tournament.

In other words, we should be content to settle. Isn't that what we had with Mick?

RE: So, about next year
Victor Lahkin was with the team last night.
He was on the court standing off to the side during warmpups and was interacting with his teammates and clowning around with them.
One would have to assume that if he stuck it out all season as a red shirt freshman, rehabbing an injury, that he intends to stick wth the program.
Otherwise you would think if he wasn't going to stay with the team for next season, he would have went home, to rehab, and to have a more normal life.
Why put up with the severe limitations on daily life that being on the team has required this season if he didn't intend to stick around?

I don't think we disagree; "returning to the tournament" in my view is the baseline and we should rightly expect Brannen or any UC head coach to do so but also to advance into the second weekend and beyond some years.

I was wondering who that was. Thanks!
Maybe that's why Diarra is leaving. It can't just be because Eason will start over him at the 5 - most teams need a 4 and a 5. Diarra must think Lahkin is better than him & will take a lot of his minutes.

Perhaps but more likely he’s spent 2 seasons playing for a guy and a system that he didn’t commit to after he decided to come to UC after he was freed up from being a Washington commit...with 2 seasons of eligibility left, my guess is he wants to play for someone he chooses to play for that wants him. He’ll have plenty of options while earning a masters degree from another school.

I don't know how many options he'll have. The transfer portal is PACKED this year.
Diarra barely saw the floor for a sub-100 NET team. A team that played a 4-guard lineup because its small guys are better than the big guys.
I'm sure someone will want him. But it's more likely to be a MEAC or OVC also-ran than a school that has a shot at a CBI invite.

Best of luck to him, but I'd be very surprised if he wound up at a program with a pulse...particularly if his goal is to play.

Dou's a really likeable guy so if he goes I hope he finds a great situation for himself but I'd think the only interest he'd pull as a grad transfer would be small schools you really hadn't heard of; like when Quad left.

Diarra was extremely raw with no feel for the game and has essentially not gotten any better while here. Cronin leaving and then the missed offseason and new coaching regime pretty much killed any chance of him progressing (although he had a few nice moments last season). I think something similar happened with Keith, although Diarra had a much much steeper learning curve. Both guys have a lot of talent that just hasn't been molded as it should. Disappointing. Hope Diarra catches on somewhere and gets a grad degree out of it. I actually hope someone is telling him to transfer to the top academic school that will take him to hoop.

Quad is a really good comp for Dou. Dou is a better player than Quad and actually showed flashes as a defender, but like Quad he really just lacked a feel for the game. He had some obvious skills and athleticism, but never could really translate that into understanding what he should do at what time.
He seems to be an incredibly likeable kid and whatever he decides I wish him nothing but the best.

As best I can determine "The Big Q" never played again but his glory still lives in New Orleans.

Well, not 100% sure he’s leaving one with a pulse.
He’ll end up in the sunbelt or something like that. Perhaps he pairs back up with Nsoseme.

Little video of Lahkin shooting around. Smooth stroke for a kid that big.
