Season opener today after last weekend's series against Memphis was cancelled due to the weather. Went into the bottom of the ninth winning 4-1, but lost 5-4.

Ah thanks for this. I'm a supporter of NIU baseball. I have spent many hungover afternoons at that little field.

Not a bad way to spend a warm spring day.

RE: Baseball
Does anyone know why Nate Thomas was never brought in, as we blew a three run, ninth inning lead?

Certainly seems like we needed to go to someone else during our ninth inning implosion.

Really a bad loss. Played a great game......for eight innings.

Good question, not sure wht he didn't pitch. On the bright side, it looks like they found a middle guy. Turelli pitched 2 innings and struck out 6. Maybe a future closer.

I just can’t believe that you bring someone in to close the 9th and he gives up 4 runs on 3 hits, a walk, and throws 2 wild pitches in 1/3rd of an inning.......and you don’t make a change before he blows the game.

Answered. Thomas is our starting pitcher today.

Obviously, has been moved into the rotation for this year. I thought that might be the case yesterday when he wasn’t brought in for the ninth inning.

In the article on Thursday, the coach listed McPherson as one of the starters in his rotation so I am not sure why he was in there during the ninth unless thaey haven't determined their closer yet.

Thomas had a very tough first inning.....down 3-0.

And what is up with our wild pitches....5 in 10 innings. Find the plate, boys.

Nice to salvage the last game of the series. Too bad they pissed away the opener.

They blew another ninth inning lead on Friday and lost to Kansas State and then lost to Rice. Now 1-9 on the season. Not getting much offense right now.

Yet another team to join our quality football and basketball teams. The women’s BB team is by far the cream of the crop, and they ended up 12-12.

Kunigonis now has a record of 111 - 194, with the lowest winning percentage of any HC in our baseball history. Rice tonight and then four games at Kent State. This not looking good.

Time to let this guy go. That's a tough gig tho. Our baseball facilities are worse than my old high school's.

Completely agree. Our facilities are an embarrassment. Far worse than nearly every high school in the Chicago area, certainly the suburban schools. I mean we don’t even have public restrooms. Welcome to the community port-a-potty.

100%.

I once looked around at all baseball stadiums for all minor league/indy/league/collegiate league/college programs and it's not even close. NIU has, by far, the worst facilities anywhere.

And, like you said, there's probably 50 high schools in the area (possibly way more) who have better facilities than NIU. As I'm sure many of JUCOs do as well.

Huskies win first game today 2-1. Now 3-10, 2-0.

With at least a split in this series guaranteed, a good weekend already.
