It is becoming more and more obvious, we are missing a previous coach.

I feel like this team is a little low on pitching depth. The thing is: given that last season was lost, I wonder if the staff is still figuring out roles for everyone and this will get better when they know who can reliably do what at this level.

1 run today in 14 innings. Oof. Someone bring them a live chicken to get the curse off of their bats.

I get that it’s a long season but if you aren’t careful you could be out of it by Easter.

NIU is one of the worst D1 baseball teams in the nation. We are now looking at getting swept. This weekend has been a disgrace.

Bummer. Let me state the obvious, you didn’t miss a thing. All it did was take a year off my life . At least today is in Albright I trust day. And if Romel can see the light, then it’ll be a brighter day indeed.
Agree didn’t miss much . My stream perfect ,watched all games
Team didn’t hit , field or appear very interested. Duncan cannot be pleased. Albright was dominant at times ,2 hit complete game.
His error on throw to first very costly.
Flashes need to get it together or season will be over for them
Losing to 1-10 team ? Not the Kent State Badeball we expect.

NIU regularly enters MAC play with a bad record because the first half of our season seems to all be on the road. NIU will play its first 19 games on the road before having its first home game in 2021.
College baseball starting in February is dumb, but I'm sure the southern teams like it because they get a bunch of home games.

I just learned that Kent State has field turf so that allows you guys to have home games during the bad weather. NIU has a grass field so we can't just clear the snow and play a game.

I wish that baseball would do the fall/spring thing that you see in golf now. Play a nonconference schedule in the fall (Sept/early Oct) and then start conference play (with maybe a southern spring break trip) in late March.
I played a high school game when it was snowing, did an exhibition game on a blacktop (which was really insane) and had a game when we moved homeplate to the outfield because the infield was so muddy. Baseball in the north isn't that much fun when you try to play in March.

I’m amazed the third basemen survived the blacktop game. Playing during the COVID pandemic is nothing compared to that.

Yeah, I don't remember much of that game except a) this is insane and b) running into 2nd and realizing that if I slide I will really hurt myself. I would assume that the infielders backed way up, but I honestly don't remember playing in the field, so maybe I was a pitchhitter or something. The whole thing was pretty dumb.

NIU has plans for $2 million in upgrades to our baseball facilities. I made a donation to it last year. But with how secretive our athletic department is, who knows if Phase 1 of the plan was even implemented this year as indicated in the plans. Phase 1 was supposed to replace the infield and bullpen areas with field turf. Then Phase 2 was replacing outfield with field turf and adding lighting (for night games). There are two other phases after all that.

That’s good to hear. And kudos to you for supporting it.
For years there were rumours NIU baseball would go the way of Buffalo, Akron and Bowling Green.

Honestly, if NIU isn't going to make the investment in its program it should just do away with it. We had some pretty decent baseball teams in the mid-2000s. I remember us having a really good recruiting class around then and one of the pitchers we signed out of high school got drafted before getting to NIU.
From what I can tell, the other Illinois public school like Illinois St. (I think they share their's with a professional baseball team), UIC, etc. have made the investment in their baseball programs and I'm assuming those HS players NIU used to get are now going to those schools instead. There are people indicating our baseball facilities haven't really changed since the 1970s.

Akron and BG both are playing baseball.

Both programs were eliminated at one point. BG rallied and UA is back as a glorified intramural team that will have absolutely zero threat on the Mid-American Conference and Division I landscape.
