#1: UAB Blazers
Four year rolling recruiting average rank: 10th

SP+ 2020 rank: 1st

The Blazers have drastically outpaced the rest of the conference in surpassing their recruiting success, or at least the way 24/7 and Rivals have viewed the Blazers’ classes. When you look at UAB’s roster and see names like Spencer Brown, Austin Watkins, Jordan Smith, and Kris Moll it’s a bit startling to see them near the bottom of the conference in recruiting rankings. Obviously Bill Clark is a fantastic talent developer, but the recruiting services obviously missed on their evaluations for most of the Blazers’ roster.

In fairness to the various talent rating services, they can't know which players will be fortunate enough to get a Joe Clark staff to oversee their career development and those who will get less. If those you named had. signed elsewhere, we may still not know their names. One of the hardest traits for a coach to predict is how much the high school star has left to grow or has he already done all he can do. Clark's staff seems to be adept at this perception of how much "up side" the player has not yet used.

Imagine if we could right the ship here and get a new offensive staff. We’ve milked the cow for all she is worth. Toughest season for this staff from an opponent standpoint is upon us.

We ARE getting crushed from an objective standpoint on recruiting by the usual recruiting metrics, but Clark and staff are obviously talented at finding good JUCO players, transfers, and developing the HS players we sign. Hopefully we can upgrade the offense and recruiting a bit to take us even further..

My point is, and has been in every recruiting debate, ratings are only slightly less accurate than Sagarin which is about horoscope level. To use them as an indicator of a program’s progress is meaningless.

How you can say we are “objectively” getting crushed is beyond me.

Using the measurables that every other college football program uses to grade recruiting, which is shoddy at best a lot of times, we are getting crushed. That's not the only way to measure how we are doing recruiting.
