Until the last minute of the game, the Rockets did a good job of defending the three point arc in the fourth frame.

Big difference: they did not dig themselves into a deep hole to open the game. The opposite and finished strong.Rocket held their own in points in the paint with only two fewer than CMU. Big factor was the Rockets ability to get around defenders and take them to the hoop with the floor spread.

I must confess I didn't see this compete game coming. Nice efforts up and down the roster.

Really could have used a win against an awful Miami team.

Well how about that. It seems that at least Cullop > Oesterle as she is 3-2 against her now, while CMU has reportedly superior talent and added the former national coach of the year as an assistant this season.

Didn't get to watch more than a few minutes, so am anxious to watch the replay tonight.

She isnt getting fired with a new AD. We were supposed to win about 10 games after we learned Beach and Black were leaving. We're young as heck and coachable. We need some more pieces but the cell nucleus is there.

Davis had the best game of maybe her career against Miami and hasn’t seen the floor since. Injury? Doghouse? Anyone?

Not sure. She was not on the bench today. On the EMU broadcast, the announcers made some comment about UT having some players out for that game, and I assume they were referring to Davis. I'm thinking maybe an injury, although the game notes do not list her as injured for the EMU game.

Watched the replay. Really good win. Rockets still made a lot of mistakes and got creamed on the boards again but they were able to persevere for the first time in a long time. Keys to that:

- Johnson had maybe her best game of her career which was huge with Davis not being available. Didn't score much, but played some good D, didn't get out of control like she often has and kept the offense flowing.
- Goss played really good D against Kelly and did some good things on offense early
- Wiard also managed the game well and found her shooting stroke again, at least in the 1st half.
- Idowu added some really good minutes again. Wonder why she seemed to fall down the depth chart for several games. Perhaps she has been dinged up too.
- Mikonowicz was great down the stretch.
- Only 10 turnovers.

Unfortunate they haven't been able to put complete games together like this before. Gotta learn how to win, so one can hope this is a big step that direction. I don't think they can make the tourney this year tho.

For the Eastern game, Davis was out due to a violation of team rules. I assume that carried over to the CMU game, as well.

Nice assessment. I would add that, on offense, they spread the floor and used first step quickness to get to the lane and hoop making some lay ups and, more often, getting fouled. They had more free throw options and makes than the Chips. Johnson’s (IIRC) off-glass three pointer seemed to spark the offense. You’re spot on with respect to “what if” they were able to put this type of complete game together earlier. They might be in the play-offs with a head of steam.

Its nice to see them get a win. Lots of hard work is finally rewarded. Need to keep the success in context though. IMO Central also played a mediocre game. Actually this Central team is a step down from the teams they have had the past few years. They are 13-8 after tonight with 6 loses in the league. And also IMO I think Kelly is a bit overrated. She can score from a variety of places on the floor but she certainly does not manage the game particularly well. She had lots of poor decisions and sometimes plays out of control similar to our Davis. Anyway maybe this game will be a momentum builder which will allow the team to finish on a positive note.

Yeah, Central is down this year, which is surprising since they returned their best players from last year. I don't agree with your assessment of Kelly, though. I think she is a clutch player who is patient on offense. I just checked her stats, which are really impressive. 23.3 ppg, 73 assists to only 54 turnovers, and an incredible .482 shooting percentage even though over 40% of her shots are 3-pointers. Those stats do not indicate a player who makes poor decisions or plays out of control.
