Kalamazoo is a great city as is the surrounding area. Four years ago, my sons and I went to Kzoo to watch a football game and check out the campus and the town. My sons loved it. They also loved the breweries.
I sure miss it.

RE: Another accolade for Kalamazoo
A couple friends who are currently living in Kalamazoo sent me this article and couldn't understand why. They are all eager to move out. Meanwhile I can't wait to come back!

By my count, you’re the only one who attempted to make this thread political.
Way to go KZoo! Best city in America based on my extremely biased college based opinion.

For some reason I was expecting a negative accolade. I love Kalamazoo b/c of Western, not necessarily the city itself. (although b/c of Western, it is still special to me personally)

I love the city itself as well. I'd live there NOW if it were possible.
What's your issue with the city?

Nope never did. A certain poster/s comments have since been removed. It was hilarious as usual.
I find (especially downtown) kzoo to be more hip and entertaining every time I come back. I too would love to live there or SW MI for that matter it’s just Detroit area is king of all the auto related jobs

I've lived in GR my whole life outside my time in Kalamazoo & just think GR's superior. But I would've liked to have stayed in Kalamazoo upon graduation.

Downtown Kalamazoo didn't have much to offer when I was there in the early 2000s. It was usually a desolate ghost town after 9 pm with the exception of a couple bars. It seems like a much more happening place now though.

RE: Another accolade for Kalamazoo
I love living in Kzoo. It's a great city and my wife and I have met a ton of wonderful people here. We both grew up on the East side of the state, but went to WMU and decided to make Kzoo our home. We have other friends from WMU that have decided to move back as well. One went to grad school at Carnegie Mellon, another went to medical school in NYC, and they both have settled back here. It's a great city for young professionals, as it is one of the only areas in Michigan experiencing growth (the other being GR area). Lots of development going on around here lately. Several large mixed-use buildings going up downtown. Bronson just built like 10 new clinics and a new cancer center. Stryker is ever expanding and built a massive new facility in Portage. FedEx just built a huge new distribution facility in Portage. Hilton just opened a nice new hotel downtown. I swear at least 15 new hotels have gone up in the last 5-10 years. A good barometer, perhaps? Lots going on around here.
Like I said, I grew up around Metro Detroit and I lived in and visited many different places while in the Army. Kzoo has been my favorite to live in. Sure, it's no Malibu or Paris. But it's a nice mid-size city to live, work and raise a family.

Yes, downtown has completely turned itself around in the last 20-30 years. Great place to hang out now.
My parents went to WMU in the early 80s and they said students avoided downtown like the plague. It just wasn't a great area back then. But longtime residents will tell you that the city has gone through a real renaissance.

Yes , beer and the close proximity of walking to the big 3 breweries . I also dig how bike friendly downtown has become.

Best brewery in the nation. And I don't think I'm being biased.
