And this is the "moderate" that democrats could not understand republicans' unwillingness to confirm for the seat held by Antonin Scalia.

He sounds like a very weak foot soldier who will do everything he is ordered.

Janet Yellen was 84-15 for Treasury, Antony Blinken was 78-22 for Secretary of State, Pete Buttigeig was 86-13 for Transportation. I'm not sure why Republicans would suddenly rally behind an effort to thwart Garland when those three were so lopsided. It looks like Manchin is a big mover on these nominations - he is against Tandem so the Republicans will take a stand on her. He's also not thrilled with Deb Haaland for Interior Secretary for some reason so perhaps that's another one that could be an issue but I suspect she'll pass through with ease too eventually. The Secretary of Energy could be close too but they haven't discussed that yet.

Republicans need to play hardball on nominations the way democrats do. These all need to be 50-50 with Kamla the **** breaking the tie. When they start doing that, I'll believe they are serious about playing politics. Right now they aren't, and they are going to keep losing until they are.

It isn't going to happen. McConnell, Cornyn and Tillis are among the Republicans today who said they'll vote to confirm Garland. I may have been too cautious with my prediction. It might even be higher than 70 yes votes.

You can be so tone deaf it's embarrassing.

How many 86-13, 84-15, 78-22's did we see in freaking 4 years of the last administration trying to get set up? Only thing resembling that were the number of faked dossiers and criminal court warrants.
But, now you're gonna *****, moan and cry over a couple of vicious partisan hacks perhaps being kicked to the curb?!?

You don't see how utterly biased and closed minded you are being? Try to apply your own "rules" the next time and tell the loyal opposition why they should be treated fairly when they are clearly not.

Dam Son.

I know it isn't, and that pisses me off. If we turn the tables and he were a republican, any republican, the vote would be along partisan lines. It's time for republicans to start playing the game the same way.

I had proposed that, in an effort to try to get the confirmation process back to a less partisan activity based on the merits, Trump should offer the democrats to nominate Garland to replace the first leftist vacancy to come up on the court (obviously would have been RBG), in exchange for democrats agreeing to cut the partisan Kavanaugh-type crap. I thought of Garland as being center-left, as he was advertised by the media. Seeing his performance in the confirmation hearings, I withdraw that proposal. He is not center left, and he did not come across as even competent.

Who's moaning and groaning? I actually think confirmation hearings that are in doubt can be kind of interesting to follow. I really don't know enough about Tandem or Haaland to form an opinion on whether they are good candidates or not. Don't take out your frustrations with what is happening in DC on me.

I'm merely trying to point out how powerful Manchin is becoming. Some folks were speculating he could switch to the GOP a few months ago, but why in the world would he do so when he can wield so much power as a Democrat. If he was a Republican, he and his state would be an afterthought to DC.

I'm also pointing out that even though people here are complaining about Garland, it's kind of futile because he's going to get confirmed.

Marked and fify.

70-29. It would have been 70-30 but I'm assuming the Alaska Senator who missed the Senate stimulus vote still wasn't back in DC.

Will Republicans ever learn? When the other side makes everything 53-47 and you let stuff go through 70-30 or 85-15, you're not functioning as an opposition.
