I'll take the series win after what we saw on Saturday.

Need the bats to get their act together but pitching was great today.

A walk off win for the Owls - what year is it, 2011?

Great job battling in such a tight game and displaying the grit to get across the finish line.

Nice job. The pitching looks very good - deeper than last year.

Gallant 5 hitless, runless innings. 5 Ks, 2 walks. Coaches had told me that Gallant, Janac and Linskey have been impressive in pre-season outings.

Great job by both Garcia and Gallant on the mound today. Happy for Walsh getting his 1st hit as an Owl and making it a walk off win!

His first college hit. Good for him. Where the heck did Gallant come from? He never pitched last year, and I've hardly heard his name mentioned by Bragga or anyone else. I trust he had Wood warming up in the pen during the top of the 9th?

Nice first outing by Garcia. Ween him back slowly. If he topped out at only 91 he wasn't throwing full throttle. He was hitting mid-90s consistently pre-injury in 2018. Most impressive-- no walks or HBPs in his 4 innings of work.

I'm guessing either Janac or Linskey gets the start at Lamar on Wednesday.

According to his Rice roster bio, Reed Gallant is a freshman at Rice. Last year, he pitched quite well for Flower Mound High School.

Quote:Compiled a 2-0 record, a 1.71 ERA and 22 strikeouts in 16.1 innings at Marcus High School when the 2020 season came to an early end… Also posted a .123 opponents’ batting average with a 0.796 WHIP when prep season concluded… Named a RawlingsPerfectGame High Honorable Mention Preseason All-America, as well as a First Team Texas Region All-High School Senior by the same organization… Played summer ball for STIX, where he was named to the All-Tournament Team at the 2019 WWBA World Championship held in Jupiter, Fla.

Matt Bartlett predicted he'd be one of the Owls' "key bullpen pieces" in his The Roost season preview:

Quote:Freshman Reed Gallant, Matthew Linskey and Micah Davis have inserted their names into the mix. Both (sic) stood out during scrimmage outings.

Owls have now won as many games in 2021 (2-1) as they won in all of 2020 (2-14).

Owls could easily be 3-0 or 1-2, so I’ll take a 2-1 start.

Game vs. Lamar on Wednesday has been canceled. Hopefully we can find another opponent.

Looked around at the schedules of surrounding teams and UIW looks like they could play...

Also just the 2nd shutout win under Bragga (we also had one in 2019 vs. USM).

Nice win and good first game back for Roel. Did not see game today but what unis did they wear. Not beating a dead horse (much) here just curious if it was closer to softball unis or classic Rice.

I thought they were worse than yesterdays.

On pregame Bragga said velo for Garcia wasn't what he used to have, and that he'd sit 88-92 but he had a great braking ball. Cienfuegos was in the pen in the 9th.

FWIW-as a former student manager-the Rice EQ staff doesn't have much control over the uniform selection. For a school the size of Rice, you pretty much take what Adidas gives you... I bet you other G5 Adidas schools have very similar designs this year...

Sadly I just saw a picture and I agree. Worse than yesterday. Anyone who claims OER (excluding caps) is still in play isn’t paying attention.

Walt, any past non OER uni examples, post WG arrival and change to OER, you would like to provide? I could not find any but doesn’t mean they weren’t worn.

Still really GREAT win and so happy for the team no matter what version of “R” they wear. Just prepare for the phase out. Don’t believe everything you’ve been told.

Good inside info but have a hard time believing WG didn’t have a say but maybe he didn’t.
