Do you like appearing stupid? We've been over this. None of that information is even in the tax returns.

You think the Supreme Court put off this ruling... which they have been sitting on for 3-4 months... in order to keep Trump in the news?

That whole paragraph is the rambling of a person who has absolutely no clue what they are even talking about. I don’t know what you do for a living, but since 1991 I have financed commercial real estate projects and before that I was a certified general (commercial) appraiser.

The only thing a tax return is used for when underwriting real estate is a cursory check against the important info provided - leases, operating statements, organizational docs, maintenance contracts, etc. There is no statement of value on a tax return to either inflate or deflate. You have a summary operating statement in a tax return and little else.

You also don’t understand how property taxes work. You generally don’t provide anything to the assessor. They independently value the property and send you a tax bill. If it’s too high, you try and get it lowered, and they argue their justification, a judge decides.

What’s illegal about paying anyone anything? As long as she reports the income and pays taxes how’s that relevant to anything. Also, can you point me to the form you fill out for “hush money payments”? How would that ever be identified on a return?

You obviously have no clue. It is impossible for a borrower to "inflate a value" for a loan. And there is no way an owner can "deflate the value" for tax purposes. That is what appraisers and assessors due.

I'm a CPA and have had a bunch of real estate clients. When you read these NYT articles its like reading a bunch of idiots. Do they still live in their parent's basement and don't make enough to file tax returns?

this is a state court case not a federal case and it’s likely not a criminal case, so jail time, if found guilty, is not likely.

Bullet, I don’t expect people to be experts when they read the article, but I would expect a journalist to consult people who know what they’re talking about before publishing an article. I guess that’s why it's safe to say real news is dead.

Well, the NYT article is trying to push a tax fraud angle. Are you saying that’s not criminal? If they are saying there are issues with his federal tax return it is certainly a federal case. If they aren’t saying that, why do they want his federal returns?

I think “intent” determines if it’s criminal, and if Trump is a repeat offender then it could be a criminal case. I’m just not sure if he’s been before a court on similar charges.

Cyrus Vance is the Manhattan DA and these are state inquiries, not federal.

How ironic that the reason Trump left New York was due to "harassment and taxes". I guess it never ends. Wonder how many trips to Pedo Island Cyrus Vance made?

Some here may want to read the article linked below. It describes some bizarre rent payments going to different addresses. Rent payments on the same property would be sent to one address or another without an apparent reason. If rent payments were manipulated it would affect the appraised value of the property. Apparently the New York prosecutor is interested.

I wonder why a SCOTUS that is majority conservative - three of those were appointed BY Trump - would do this?

Trump appointee doesn't necessarrily equate to Trump supporter?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there must be SOMETHING there if they ordered the returns to be released.

I don't think they did. Without reading NYT drivel, I think they simply refused to hear the case, so the lower court or NY court ruling stands.

And approving it simply means the DA has a right to subpoena these documents.

What a tangled web, rent money going all over the place. The rental value of a property is tied to its appraised value according to the article. I do love the quote that if Trump isn't doing something wrong he's trying real hard to make it appear as if he is lol
