UC definitely has the opportunity to build a program, winning the title in 2019 and playing in the best conference of any Ohio team. As of this past weekend, the RPI by conference has the American ranked as the #5 conference. The B10 is #11. The (new) Big East is #22.

Our conference is legit for baseball. We still have the drawback of being a northern team, and that will always hurt us. We will always have to play more road games to start the season, but I think we could become very competitive in conference if this staff keeps up.

I'd have to think that if we did an indoor football practice facility that they'd do everything in their power to make it work for baseball as well. Probably couldn't do full live hitting unless the ceiling is higher than it'd need to be for football but other than that it should be duel purpose.

Good thought. It would certainly be a major enhancement for baseball, having to compete in a southern dominant conference where most of our opponents get a big head start on practice due to the weather here.

You'd be surprised...the baseball team up here only gets to use the indoor facilities for about a month between bowl season and spring practices. It's not as beneficial as one may imagine for anyone other than the football team (which is the intended use anyways). Most schools have indoor hitting nets and pitching stalls now, so really, the only advantage is fielding, and turf is almost TOO perfect to use for too long for players on fielding drills.

It’s just what it is for teams in the north. Guys down south can go all year which helps them immensely...also one reason why the area in the country with the highest numbers of MLB pitchers is (wait for it) the New England states. Dudes down south burn their elbows out...they just reach the replacement date on numbers of throws more quickly.

UC knocks off # 7 Louisville at home 13-12 in 10 innings! UC scored 2 in the bottom of the 10th for the walk off win!

It's ALWAYS good to beat Lou-uh-vull and send their fans home disappointed. A great crowd last night and a game that included just about everything you could ask for in the way of excitement and competitiveness--for more than four hours. Pitching battles are fine on occasion but I prefer the run production most nights.

Beating the #7 team in the country and elevating the pre-conference record above .500 certainly sets the stage for a challenging season in the American. I really believe the Bearcats can compete, particularly if the pitching comes around. Too many walks and hit batters putting runners on base so far this season has been costly.

Finally, it was somewhat bittersweet seeing the Cardinals on our field last night. I will forever regard Louisville as our greatest historical rivalry, so I'm glad this series has continued on the baseball field. But the tragedy of conference realignment has been the elimination of this rival, just 100 miles from our campus, for all other sports. And I'm a bit envious too--when they put the graphic on screen of Louisville's upcoming baseball games and you see all those big brands from the ACC they will play in the coming weeks, it only makes me want UC in that "club" all the more.

They are going to stop these midweek games at UC...I was at the one a few years back when UL was top ranked and had that 1B prospect that was going the 1st round...won that one, too.

Yeah...but teams like UC love them. You can nip a good team when they're resting their weekend rotation, best opportunity to win some normally unwinable games.

It’s also great because teams like UL tended to fit in reserves and hold back pitching for upcoming weekend series. Not sure if that was the case. It was in that game a few years back. I love putting a hot knot on their heads when they treat it like an exhibition.

UofL put their closer in in the 9th and he pitched the 10th.

He hadn't given up a run in 16 innings until the bottom of the 10th when UC scored 2.

I'm enjoying watching UC play on ESPN + - one benefit of getting that subscription and UC has improved their baseball broadcasts a lot since the beginning of the year.

Bolded, I agree. Home games I haven't been able to attend I've been checking out on ESPN+. My wife immediately commented on how beautiful the stadium looks and the great campus view beyond the outfield of the TUC and McMicken towers. So we've both enjoyed watching.

This is a fun team and provides a much needed diversion from the basketball sideshow of the past two weeks. And I know there is a wide range of opinions on UnderArmour's UC uniforms but I think they did their best work for the baseball team--a clean, classic look with distinctive UC touches. The 50's throwback version they wear on Sundays is very cool too.

My first reaction was not "hey we beat Louisville" but rather wait, you can go to the game???

UC played well in game 1 at ECU but lost 5-4. They had a 4-2 lead but lost it in the late innings.

UC baseball will be more interesting than the Reds this year.

Then, again, so will feeding pigeons. Low bar.

Good point. I believe this UC team has a lot of upside. UC was competitive to the final out once again with the #11 team in the nation after defeating the #7 team two nights earlier.

How often could we say that of our basketball and football teams over a long history when facing ranked teams? And that's not a shot at UC's fine work in those sports. It's simply to say that Googins is building a winner and bigger home crowds do deliver energy to the team.

A quick check of the schedule online shows the final twelve conference games at home. I believe this UC team will compete, especially if one or two reliable relievers emerge in the coming weeks.

Three out of four this weekend vs. Wichita State to take yet another series. Our Bearcats are climbing steadily in the American and finish with a dozen games at home.

I get the feeling they are going to be in the hunt for an AAC Championship again after winning it all in 2019.
