Zaskoda has settled down a bit since the last single. Still 3-3, heading to bottom of 7th.

Owls rallying in the 7th - 1 out walk to Karp and then a single by Comeaux. And then a walk to Bulman.
probably a pitching change coming up?
No they keep the pitcher in.
Gneiting SF gives Rice a 4-3 lead. Karp just safe ahead of the throw.
Johnny Hoyle (1st Rice at-bat) pinch-hits for Hughes and battles, but grounds out. 4-3, heading to the 8th.

Leadoff walk and then a sacrifice in the 8th for HBU. Runner on 2nd, 1 out. Owls have guys warming in the pen (Cienfuegos).
Groundout to 2nd, two out. Runner moves to 3rd.

Nice job by Zaskoda to get out of it (foul pop up to catcher).
Need insurance runs!

Edwards single puts runners on the corners. Edwards 4-4 day.
Hughes single makes it 5-3! Still no outs. Turning it around to the top of the order.
Dunlap walk loads the bases. We finally found an HBU pitcher we can handle.
Karp single ups the lead to 6-3. I like Karp, he's going to be fun to follow this year.
pitching change.....

Comeaux triples in 3 to make it 9-3. I think even our bullpen can handle this lead now.

Pros: Owls win. Better ABs than yesterday. Defense remained good. Pitching was decent (Zaskoda especially once he settled in).
Cons: Hideous high school uniforms. HBU is not good, and we again struggled with them.

Man i have to say, these new uniforms hideous. They look like a 12 year old designed them on MLB the Show. What happened to the classic blue on pinstripes.... jeez

Solid pitching, outstanding defense, and much better offense than yesterday. I think Dunlap has earned the LF spot once Garibay returns to RF. Walsh struggling mightily to start his college career (he redshirted last year at Ole Miss)-- 5 strikeouts in 7 ABs (all looking), but he's too good a prospect to give up on him, and he's a plus defender. For a guy who won his conference's top defender award the past two seasons at SS, Karp looks pretty sharp behind the plate. I believe he's thrown out 3 of 6 basestealers so far.
BTW, not saying they are a post-season caliber team, but how do you know whether HBU is good or not?

Aside from being the rubber match, tomorrow's game with Garcia on the mound is critical for our season-long prospects. Here's hoping his arm is fully healthy and he can throw strikes (his one issue pre-injury).

Because I watched them with my eyes. Our pre 2016 Graham era teams would throttle this HBU team.

Texas A&M lost 2 at home to Xavier to begin the season (College Station was another city like Houston that had major weather issues this past week). 2020-21 has been a crazy year for athletes. It's tough to really figure out anything for sure.

Agree 100%. Do you think they are phasing out the OER??. Stick by with classic unis. Cant go wrong with pinstripes!!!

OER is not being phased out. We had this discussion last year.

Just saw them. Tempted to ask where the softball game was, and who was bringing the beer.

Really? I thought they played pretty sound fundamental baseball and were aggressive on the bases (perhaps, overly so). Only one error in the two games against us and that was on a sinking line drive.

The only surprise is that Karp can catch. Who knew? Hughes was the starting SS for LSU for his first 2 1/2 years precisely because of his glove....and Karp was voted his DII conference's top defender award for two consecutive years as a SS.
