Hornets open the season with a win at #15 Arizona State. Bacho got the 9th inning grand slam and Cherby closed it later in the inning for the 4-2 win.

And Sacramento State wasn’t the only WAC team with an opening win,

From Jeff Hurd “Only four WAC baseball teams were able to play their season openers Friday — and wins over Arizona State, Pepperdine, Missouri and St. Mary’s made it a very good start.”

Not trying to discount the win, but where did you see that ASU was ranked 15th in the country. Every poll I looked at had them outside the top 25 or just receiving votes.

Was going off of what was posted on Hornetsports. Looks like they have the wrong AZ school.

Edit: Just check ASU's website and they are claiming a #15th ranking as well:

"The Sun Devils are ranked 15th in the country in the preseason polls by Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game. The NCBWA have ASU tabbed at No. 29 while the team remains unranked by Baseball America and D1Baseball. ASU was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 this season in vote by the Pac-12 Coaches this week. "

Hornets drop the last 2 games at ASU, 2-1 on Sat, and 3-1 today. Solid pitching performance for the series. 4 game series with Pacific starts Thursday.

Cal Bap looks like they could have another strong season. Took 2 out of 3 from Pepperdine, the WCC preseason pick.

Mizzou is in a tough league, but is projected to be at the bottom. St Mary's is picked next to last in the WCC as well.

Cal Bap had the best showing.

UTRGV 2-1. Not as good as that Sac State win over Arizona State win but not a bad start.

Any non-con win is a good win for the WAC imo.

RE: 2021 Baseball
Hornets (4-2) sweep Texas State (3-5) this weekend. The series with Pacific was scrubbed and the Hornets were able to fly TSU into town instead.

Saturday, Game 1: 8-4. Randall gave up 1 run over 5 innings and got hit 1st win of the season. Hornet bats wake up with Bacho, Doyle, and Bollengier with multi-hit games and 5 RBIs between the 3 of them.

Saturday, Game 2: 5-4: A back and forth game that saw the Hornets take advantage of some Bobcat fielding errors that were ultimately the difference. The Hornet bullpen went 4 innings without an earned run. Churby got the save with the tying run 90 feet away and striking out back to back batters to end the game.

Sunday: 7-1. Saul pitched a gem and gave up 1 run over 6 innings and striking out 4. Hornets tacked on a run here and there until their bats erupted in the 8th to seal the win. A solo HR by Vincelli-Simard that landed in the 2nd deck of the parking garage and a 2 run shot by Zeidman a few batters later finished the scoring.

Hornets host Pacific (3-1) for a Monday night tilt at the John.

RE: 2021 Baseball
Hornets (5-2) come from behind and get the 8-4 win over Pacific (3-2). Tinsley had a rough start but the Hornet bullpen picks him up and only allows 1 run over 6 innings. Zalasky gets the win and Churby gets his 3rd save.

A back and forth game until the Hornets blew it open with a 4 run 7th. A 2 out rally in the 7th consisted of 3 back to back hits by Gonzalez, Bacho, and Bojorquez followed by a fielding error to give the Hornets the lead.

Hornets have a 4 game series this weekend at Santa Clara (2-5).

RE: 2021 Baseball
Hornets (7-4) split a 4 game series at Santa Clara (4-7) over the weekend:

Thursday: 0-5 loss. The Broncos pitching keep the Hornet bats quiet and capitalize on a few fielding errors.

Friday: 2-1 win. Randall gave up a 1st inning solo HR then went 6 innings of shutout ball. Zalasky and Churby close out the game and the Hornets get some timely hitting with an 8 inning solo HR by Moretto and back to back doubles in the 9th by Vincelli-Simard and Smith.

Saturday: 10-0 win. Adams pitched a gem and only allowed 2 hits over 7 innings with 7 K’s and the Hornet bats erupt for 6 runs in the 5th inning. Bojorquez went 3 for 5 with a 3 run HR and 5 RBIs on the night.

Sunday: 6-10 loss. Saul gets tagged for 4 runs in the 1st but the Hornets battle back until things fell apart in the 4th inning as the young Hornet pitching gave up 6 runs. Hornets struggled to come up with key hits as they strand 14 runners.

Hornets open up WAC play with a 4 game series at Tarleton State (5-8) this weekend.

RE: 2021 Baseball
Hornets (10-5, 3-1 WAC) take 3 of 4 from WAC newcomer Tarleton State (7-11, 1-3 WAC) this past weekend and racked up a total of 56 runs over 30 innings of play.

Friday, Game 1: 6-0 win. Randall goes all 7 innings and gives up only 2 hits while striking out 7 for the win. Smith and Bacho both go yard and combine for 3 RBIs.

Friday, Game 2: 17-3 mercy rule win. Adams goes the full 7 innings in the win. McPhillips, Moretto, and Torres have 3 RBIs each.

Saturday: 13-16 loss. Hornet pitching completely implodes and squanders an early 8 run lead in a game where 13 runs on 13 hits wasn’t enough for the Hornets. TSU gets its first WAC win on the books.

Sunday: 20-5 mercy rule win. Smith hits 2 HRs and he and Bojorquez have 4 RBIs each.

Hornets continue with WAC play at Utah Valley (2-9) this weekend.
