RE: Spring Football- Jonesing
I think that each position group is having a contest over the next day or so. This is the lifting portion to be followed by a sprint contest to test their speed. The kids seem fired up for both contests.

Now, I could only imagine that this was something Hammock wanted to implement in 2020 if it weren't for the strict COVID rules. As things are starting to relax more and open up, it seems like he's getting a chance to push a robust off-season program. Let's see what that looks like on the field in 2021! Hopefully back to Detroit!
What I've learned is that the strength coach can be the 2nd most valuable coach. Due to ncaa rules he may be able to spend more time with team than any other coach. In many cases they are paid accordingly. ( I have no idea if we even have 1. Just never paid attention I guess.)

It was Juney Barnett. But I don't see him listed on NIU football. Before that, it was Ryan Napoli.

https://niuhuskies.com/staff-directory
Observations from a quick review of the staff directory:
The Athletics Administration is top heavy. It seems like they are practically all Chiefs, and practically no indians.
There are 4 listed coaches for baseball, and only 3 for men's basketball.
There are 6 listed positions for women's basketball and only 3 for men's basketball.
4 for volleyball
there is no Assoc. Athletic Director for Development (fundraising)

It seems to accurately reflect the state of affairs.
Men's basketball-- as reflected by staffing allocation--- is an afterthought. Giving out titles seems important. More important than doing the hard work of building successful programs? It leads one to wonder.

AADirector for Development was Andrew Joannides, who left for Tarleton State University in Texas. Is working with some people he worked with at former stops. Also could be why not much activity on the HAF/ticket front.

Damn Joannides is out? I worked with him on a few projects previously. How long has he been gone and why haven't we replaced him yet? Who leaves a D1 FBS for an FCS WAC school? You heard that right, the WAC is BACK.

He started at TSU in January. It is in the Texas A&M system. I would think that being in any Texas system is a great opportunity.

Holy smokes. His numbers are unreal. Maybe he should play OLine.

He's a beast. Had been impressive as an athlete since HS. Shades of former Northwestern/Packer FB Dan Vitale.

Some thoughts:

- Our strongest OL (Vacula for Bench AND Squats) is a FRESHMAN (a COVID-Shirt True Freshman).

- Griffen is a guy who gets overlooked but he has played some solid ball out there - plus seems to be doing work in the weight room (He deadlifted almost 100lbs more than the next position group on the board.) If he can put on a few more pounds of weight it would be great. We have a thin DT rotation, would be great if he steps up like he can.

- Thomas is another guy who seems to be putting in the work on the D-Line.

- Good to see Cody Kopp get on the board. I believe he was injured last year and he should add some nice ILB depth. Interesting to see PUGH on the ILB list. Makes me feel like next year Pugh is back in the middle, flanked by Rattin and Rayner. The backups are Deveaux/ Kopp/ Cole.

- Good to see Cole on the list for Traps...must be recovered from the Knee injury because Traps are no joke...and deadlifting on one leg doesn't seem likely.

- Also Hammock posted some impressive vertical jumps. Cyrus McGarrell and Billy Dozier can really leap. If Cyrus doesn't see a ton of PT this year I am going to be shocked. Hammock loves him, and he is a true athlete that we haven't had at corner since...I mean...I can't name a real athletic corner we have ever had. Ward probably...maybe...I dunno.

Good to see the guys on the board who are putting in work.

Would love to see this LB arrangement (Pugh flanked by Rattin and Rayner). I thought Rattin was playing out of position in the middle. He would probably be great on the outside.

I'm also high on Jeff Griffin, thought he played pretty well when given the opportunity.

I think he sees Ester as one of his future stables. Either way I think we'll be decent on the interior.
