Man, y'all really have no idea how to live in the snow do you?

A lot of these places don't even have snow plows.

Residential streets here in Lexington have not been plowed all week, only main roads and highways have been given attention.

Yet most businesses have not closed, and have pressed on. That's not an excuse.

The road I live on is on a hill, and is notorious for having cars stuck not being able to make the climb. I was able to make the climb with my wife's front wheel drive suv, you just have to know how to drive in this stuff.

I drive an older Subaru Forrester which does great in the snow but over about 8 inches I just don't have the clearance. But you're right as far as knowing how to drive in snow. We usually get a few plowable snows here a year. Schools close but most businesses don't.

I also have a Subaru and it's a beast in the snow.

Yeah, love ours but I've gotten "turtle shelled" trying to drive through unplowed foot deep snow.

I had a Volvo V70 AWD station wagon and I don't think I ever even hydroplaned in that thing. It was so heavy and the wheel base was wide it was about as stable as a station wagon could be. Loved driving it too. It was a damn lemon though with something breaking every 6 months and it was not cheap to fix.

We had a short thunderstorm down here. The temperatures dropped into 70s. A/C catches a break.

We'll be vacationing in Hollywood this July. Might have to hit you up for some dining recommendations closer to. We stayed in Lauderdale by the Sea a couple years ago and the freaking seaweed came in our first day there and was piled up a couple feet high on the shore. Is that like a constant thing now through the summer or does it come in waves? I read when we were there was some of the worst.

You know, as funny as it sounds, I live less than 5 miles away from the beach but I haven't been AT the beach for three years now. I am reading about seaweed from newspapers and see it on TV :)

We do have a couple of nice eateries in Hollywood area. I will happily impart my knowledge upon you.

That’s good to know, it completely filled the water and shore until our last day there when it finally stopped coming in and settled to the point where you could wade through 10-15 feet and the water was clear again. Hopefully 2021 won’t be so bad.

Yeah I know what you mean, I lived a couple blocks from the beach for about 7 years. Went a good bit when I was younger because well girls but less often as the years went by. The mountains have always felt like home but I enjoy a beach vacation now. I’ll hit you up when we’re in the planning stage. Always like to have a local’s input. Thanks.

The seaweed is definitely something that comes in waves. It’s from our govt selling out to sugar companies allowing them to dump their waste into our runoffs. It causes crazy seaweed and algae issues all along the coast, sometimes even resulting in dead fish washing up on the shore. You can thank Rick Scott (Voldemort) for your seaweed experience.

Are you staying by the hard rock or by the beach?

Seaweed is an unnecessarily pejorative term, and should be replaced with the more PC term "indigenous beneficial plant growths of the ocean".

Despite the Snow and Ice; the vast majority of Tennesseans did not lose power during this period. We always had it in the Nashville area; but I feel for those folks who lost it. What a nightmare.

On the beach about a third of a mile South of the start of the boardwalk it looks like.

Should be great this time of year. Hopefully it’s not too crowded. Last time I went to Hollywood beach was the 4th of July in 2017. It was standing room only and it took me 3 hours to get home (I lived like 20 minutes away).

In that case hope and pray it doesn’t turn into tourist city. I guess you don’t have the luxury of picking an 70-80 degree beach weekend in the winter. It would be too much of a gamble for a long distance trip.

We bought our most recent house in 2006 and put in a natural gas generator in mid 2009 from Generac. Best investment we have made for this house. If you have the capabilities and the means I would highly recommend getting one. They can be a bit pricey for someone without much disposable income but they pay for themselves over time.
