Really it was our offensive line depth at left tackle that probably cost us the Peach Bowl. Defense held up really well all game and defense was missing its two All Americans.

I agree but seems that we will need to replace a lot of talent on the DL as well.

Our Defensive Line might be the most experienced in program history. Just need talented youngsters like Wodtly, Ruffin, and Phillips to add a little depth.

Sanders, Brooks and Brown came back for another year along with Malik Vann. We have a lot of talent that has been waiting in the wings to emerge, guys that were rotating in but you may have not noticed plus some young guys like Justin Wodtly. Probably the deepest position group we have TBH.

DL definitely seems to be the strongest position group, top to bottom, on the roster this coming year...I think it's between DL and TE at this point.

RE: Football Schedule is Out
Replacing Hudson and Harper are my only concerns for next year. Tunstall looks like the real deal as a transfer (similar situation to Dino Boyd also from FCS), but it's still quite an adjustment stepping up from FCS to FBS at left tackle. And we have plenty of bodies who could step in at right tackle, but no one who is proven IMO. The interior of our offense line will be very experienced and talented though, so hopefully that will boost the overall performance of the line enough to make up for losing a couple of studs on the ends.

With basketball in the dumpster right now, football really can't start soon enough. Crazy that it's only been a month and a half since we were watching them in the Peach Bowl. Feels like forever ago...

I know this season has been really disappointing, but I've actually really enjoyed watching these last 4 basketball games. They've all been close, which can drive you crazy, but the guys are playing hard and learning how to win. Anyway, sorry to derail the thread.

You didn't even mention Virginia transfer Jowon Briggs. ESPN named him a True Freshman All-American in 2019. In 2020 he had 3 sacks through 7 games, and some say he was UVA's best defensive player before deciding to transfer.

Yup. The only guy we lost is Ponder, the Briggs addition may make up for that.

Chad Brendel has been saying for a while now that Wodtly is the real deal and gave our 1st team OL fits last year in camp and at practice last year.

We're obviously not going to just play a game at Western Michigan, nor is Nebraska simply going to come to Nippert without a return game. Any idea of how this might shake out?

Likely all just water under the bridge, people will just move on to 2021 as if those games happened (this isn’t a UC take, this is all of CFB).

Yeah, the only other way to handle it really would have been to push everything back one year. But that obviously didn't happen. So now, the only thing that can be done is for all of college football to just move on and not allow 2020 to cause any future non-conference schedule madness. We would have beaten Nebraska handily regardless.

Would be impossible. You’d have to coordinate 130 FBS schools and umpteen FCS schools to all agree to amend every single contract that would be impacted over the next decade.

Force majure clause in each contract = too bad, so sad.

Could be our biggest regular season game ever. Yes I said it. EVER.

If this is how the season plays out, you're talking about a top 5-10 matchup. Probably gameday as well. Could maybe be that win that's eluded the program for so long lol

I can't believe BK let this game happen.

We pull it off up there and he's going to look like a real cod piece.

Maybe they could move some of these studs on the DL to the OL?

Ehhh...that's a weird game to play. I'd just rely on the highly regarded OL recruits we've gotten in the last few years to develop instead of robbing from Scruggs to pay Crook. That's also not even factoring in that many may not have had any experience on the OL in HS to begin with (as most of the guys we're bringing in look to be on two-platooning HSs with larger rosters).

I think with Luke Collingsworth (borderline 4* OT), Mao Glynn (borderline 4* OG), John Williams (supposedly pushed for a starting job within one camp cycle), Johnathan Allen (borderline 4* OT who also happens to be enormous), Landon Fickell (well coached and highly regarded), Kobe McAllister (GA OLman of the Year in his division), and Jake Renfro (Freshman All American), the OL future is bright...and plugging a guy in who doesn't know the ropes rather than developing that talent isn't a way to get a program running at full capacity. Bringing in Tunstall is the right move, as LT is the most important position on our line and we need a solid anchor while the next man up is developing, but I wouldn't pull someone from a DL position to RT instead of running out someone like John Williams, Kobe McAllister, or Luke Collingsworth.

If we had an issue at guard it would make sense but not for tackle. None of them have the length for LT (except for Sanders and he is too lean). Left tackles ideally are tall, athletic, have long arms and have good footwork.

I would not be surprised to see one of our OG’s get a look at tackle.

McConnell has played tackle before and was recruited for that position before sliding in to replace Murray last year.
