Again, who cares if his family left town, but as an elected public servant, you would hope he would attempt to do something, yes.

We're seeing some fundamental differences in basic compassion right now between Cruz & others for sure. Voters in TX won't forget that.

Cruz has been working for Texas for many years, raising money, feeding the poor and fighting for his constituents in Washington his entire career.

The notion that AOC or that US constitution hating clown Beto have done more and shown more compassion for Texas is one of the dumbest things ever posted here. She has spent most of her "career" chasing good jobs away from her own state and calling conservatives in Texas and elsewhere white supremacists and racists. Same for Beto.

AOC is a nasty, dishonest person who is nothing but a mouthpiece for the Marxist socialists in Washington.

AOC raised $1M for people suffering in TX right now - tell me again what Cruz has done to help with this situation?

Calling her or Beto names is a weak game. It doesn't change the fact that they have done more with their position to help during this crisis in TX than Cruz has, period, and they deserve props for that.

Cruz apparently being completely unaware of how optics work after "working in TX for many years, raising money, feeding the poor and fighting for his constituents in Washington his entire career" speaks to what a moron he is, or how little he actually cares about his constituency. Again, voters will remember that.

God help those in danger right now if the most powerful men and women in Texas aren't doing anything because it doesn't fit into their day to day job description during a crisis.

I'm not a chef but that didn't stop me from baking a 25lb frozen turkey we had yesterday to feed people. I'm not a hotelier but that didn't stop me from opening up my home to those without water or power. Best believe if I had his rolodex I wouldn't be flying to Cancun with the kids only to be shamed back to Texas because the world announced I was an even bigger POS than expected. Best believe if I had his media presence I would be shouting from the rooftops that more needs to be done.

I call BULLCRAP....

baked a FROZEN turkey and it takes 2 to 3 days to safely thaw that size of a bird.

Maybe he’s trying to poison these people.....03-puke

Soaked it in a tub under water for hours and then baked the **** out of it at 325 till it was done. Times of crisis require extra effort. It was 160 internal when I yanked it, 165 b by the time it served.

Everyone was fine. Happy and full. Thanks for your concern tho.

Unsurprisingly, when grocery stores are ransacked and people are hungry... a rushed turkey met their standards.

Certainly feel for those impacted, heck I have family in Houston who is going to have to bull doze their home and start over. Its an absolute mess.

But to make this into a political pissing match is the last thing that needs to happen.

Why would anyone have to bull doze their home from a freeze? If its because pipes busted....

Drip Drip Drip, thats about all it takes to keep that from happening.
They were stuck at their daughters college getting her into her house there.

They weren't able to get back to maintain the house during the event.

Half of the second floor flooded, froze and collapsed the ceilings, additional pipes on the first floor burst as well.

They should have delayed moving their daughter in

And a lot of people live in apartment complexes. Hard to convince all 200 of your neighbors to be perfect in a time of crisis 3/4 have never experienced befor (LIVING IN TEXAS, WHERE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY WINTER).

That makes sense.

But a lot of these people in Teas are just not using common sense. But that's actually the world we are living in. People (general) dont know how to deal with anything out of the norm. Look to government to do everything for them...instead of doing it their self. People are soft and its why this country is in trouble

Agreed....but it's also AOC's job to do that for her constituents, and she somehow managed to raise $1M for TX in a matter of days. Beto has no power within the state either, but he's being proactive and trying to help as he can as well.

Is their motivation 100% pure? Of course not...does that change the fact that they have helped people in TX more than Cruz has? Nope.

You would hope that people holding public office have at least the moral constitution to try to do something to help their constituents out when something like this happens. Instead Cruz is more worried about running around doing damage control for his image.

Read your last paragraph...apply it to YOUR party. Are you freaking kidding? You’re bringing up morality? A liberal? Geez us h...nothing against you personally, I know you’re good people, but that’s hilarious...

Ted Cruz goes to Cancun and spends one night and you lefties want the guy cancelled.

Haven’t heard you libs say one gosh damn word about Cuomo in NY but Cruz goes to freaking Cancun with his girls for a night and you guys shat yourselves. Pathetic.

Cuomo is a piece of garbage as well - and has zip to do with TX or Cruz.

Yes - having basic human compassion matters to me. I like seeing elected officials do something to help people in need - in AOC's case, not a single person who will benefit from the $ raised will be able to vote for her. That's NOT to say it won't benefit her with her own constituency - obviously this is done at least partially to benefit herself....but at least it's done and those in TX who need it will benefit from it. The "party of personal responsibility" thinks it's a sign of weakness to help others when you aren't legally required to, apparently.

Please spare me the "he only went to Cancun for a night with his girls" BS. Look at the pics - that bag was packed for a weeklong trip, or he packs for for an overnight "dropoff" than any woman I know. He got caught trying to head out for a vacation, and he had to return home with his tail between his legs to try to save his already busted image. He deserved to get called out on it, period.

Quote:Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who is facing backlash for traveling to Mexico as a winter disaster ravages his home state, has repeatedly criticized politicians who vacationed or took part in leisure activities during times of crisis, a CNN KFile review finds.

This past December, Cruz attacked Austin Mayor Steve Adler for going to Cabo, Mexico, during the coronavirus pandemic.

“Hypocrites. Complete and utter hypocrites. And don’t forget @MayorAdler who took a private jet with eight people to Cabo and WHILE IN CABO recorded a video telling Austinites to ‘stay home if you can…this is not the time to relax,'” tweeted Cruz in December.
https://ktvz.com/politics/2021/02/19/ted...ng-crisis/

Austin Mayor.
Texas Senator.

As I said, he is not a mayor, nor even a governor. He is quite literally our State Representative in DC. He does not work for the state government... He does not work for a city. It's like saying JJ Watt should have been there to help James Harden sink that game winning basket. Sure, had he been there in the stands it might have looked good on TV, but he doesn't have a job with the Rockets.... like Cruz doesn't have a job within the state.

Did Cruz tell people without power not to travel to where power was? Of course not.

Its hypocritical to tell someone not to travel while you're traveling. It's not hypocritical to tell people to go to a warm place whether that is a shelter, a home with power, or even Cancun.

You know this. Why do you pretend not to?

You would hope that people holding public office have at least the moral constitution to try to do something to help their constituents out when something like this happens. Instead Cruz is more worried about running around doing damage control for his image.

And democrats including both you and AOC are more interested in damaging his image such that he would need to spend time controlling it.

Has he really done nothing? Or has he merely not done something mostly symbolic as I suggested.

$1mm? oooooh. That's $1 per HOUSEHOLD without power in Houston alone.

The whole point about AOC only demonstrates
a) that the left is trying to prop her up to do more than just be a house rep from Queens... I mean seriously, that was probably a few democrats essentially making a tax deductible unlimited campaign contribution.
b) that someone with no other tasks can be helpful from ANYWHERE, including a beach in Cancun.

I would not be saying this if Sylvester Turner were on the beach, or Gregg Abbott, or certainly the head or ERCOT... but Ted Cruz? It's laughable. And FTR, I didn't and wouldn't vote for Cruz to be the Republican Nominee. Had he won, I MIGHT have voted for him over Hillary, but he would not have been my choice... so I have no interest at all in 'supporting' Cruz.

It's about being smart enough to know what people's jobs are and when they're merely putting on a show. People will always be around to take free money... but money hasn't been the problem in Texas. Its not as if people didn't have power because they couldn't pay their power bill... or that Texas couldn't get them power because we didn't have money... or you couldn't run your generator because the stations didn't have power to run the pumps... or that having more money would have made the gas lines shorter or allowed more people to violate COVID to get into stores or create more room at shelters. You need city and state leaders nearby to make exceptions to city or state rules and policies and to make decisions about allocations of resources. You don't need a Senator for that. They have no power to do those things... and yes, it helps to be nearby and 'in it' to know how best to allocate resources.

So yeah, to Tom above... you either don't understand the job descriptions of these people (which I doubt) or you are simply playing politics.... and to Green, you are either playing or falling for those political games.

OH LOOK, Cruz happened to have a family vacation planned... (FTR, I've said for years Texas has 2 seasons, summer and February) so yes... it makes PERFECT SENSE to go to a beach in February... and its a shorter flight from Texas to Cancun than DC... or Cali or Fl.... AND much more likely to be warm. I've done Spring break in both Orlando and Anaheim and its been in the 30's. HURRY... Let's get some Democrat whose career we're trying to advance and make them look good while making a Republican look bad.

NEVER LET A DISASTER GO TO WASTE

Political theatre, nothing else.

This will cost Ted some in TX, but it kills any chance he had in 2024 to become the GOP’s candidate for the WH. Ted’s stupidity was a big win for Josh Hawley as both fight for leadership of the insurrection wing of the Republican Party.

That's horrible for your friend, max. I've also heard of those apartment complexes having management that failed to get into empty apartments to run faucets, etc., and now their entire buildings are in trouble.

And a lot of people live in apartment complexes. Hard to convince all 200 of your neighbors to be perfect in a time of crisis 3/4 have never experienced befor (LIVING IN TEXAS, WHERE THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY WINTER).

When my son lived in a apt complex...EVERYONE got a notice to let the water drip with extreme cold temps.

Once again...COMMON F'ing sense no matter where you live. I'm sure people in Texas gets weather updates and freezing weather was in that.

Well the thing is too, nowadays with social media and such, there is no way not to easily see alerts and how to manage the situation coming.

Look to government to do everything for them...instead of doing it their self. People are soft and its why this country is in trouble

That is exactly what the progressive left wants, people completely dependent upon the government for survival and basic needs. That is how Marxism and socialism works.

We are practically already there and its likely too late to stop it now.

They are clearly using political crisis, economic crisis, covid crisis, civil unrest crisis and several other crises to bring this about, and now here we are staring down the barrel of the end game.

Right, then they can praise themselves while "helping" in the aftermath.

I really dont get fired up much about anything anymore but i guarantee i do when i see people taking advantage of a bad situation for personal gain and recognition.

Abbott has been just as big of a disaster here. If not more so considering how unprepared Austin was.

Partisan BS. Sorry that’s all it is.
