RE: UCONN how is the BE?
What's wrong with UVA? They're the last team that won the national championship. And NC State may not be as good lately but old fogies like Boeheim and Schmolik remember Jim Valvano and the 1983 NC State upset of Phi Slamma Jamma/Houston to win the national championship. Now if you don't want to play Clemson I understand. Most ACC basketball teams don't want to play them. They only put up with them because, you know, that other sport.

Were you a Villanova fan prior to 2013? Or certainly prior to 2003? There are a ton of reasons that a Syracuse fan (of basketball) would prefer the Big East of today to the ACC.

I love the ACC..I wake up every morning usually to Packer and Durham. The ACC network is my most watched channel. Great traditions in almost every sport. Im extremely thankful my team got in. I dont miss the big east. The ACC is better.

RE: UCONN how is the BE?
I was pretty young during the Big East hey dey of Georgetown, St. John's, Rollie Massimino Villanova, Rick Pitino Providence, and P. J. Carlesimo Seton Hall. I remember more of Syracuse and UConn and of course Carolina and Duke. The Big East had some great basketball but the ACC is pretty good too and the Big East today isn't the Big East of the 80's when half of the teams are in the Midwest and one team is west of the Mississippi. Yes Duke and North Carolina are down this year but most years the ACC is a better basketball conference. I've said many times I'd love if Villanova could play in the ACC.

There is nothing wrong with those teams. In fact Syracuse is lucky to be associated with those teams. Ive lived in Syracuse my whole life, (yes im a townie) most people agree its better, we just haven't done our part yet.

RE: UCONN how is the BE?
It would have been a great sight to see UConn at a sold out MSG/BET in a few weeks. Next year will be much better for fans IMO.

Having UConn back has been a home run for the Big East. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if they pulled an upset or two and won the BET this season.

No thanks, the ACC has way better schools, better football programs, better basketball programs, better leadership, better following, better money, you can make a case about rivalries and excitement but that takes time and we need to do a better job. And some of our ACC games have been epic

And yet you have no rivals in the ACC (Duke and UNC don’t care about you) and no MSG. You have certainly outperformed Georgetown since the move, so I guess there’s that.

People who remember UCONN and Syracuse are people who started paying attention in 2003 or so. Nothing wrong with that; I’m just trying to give perspective as to why a Cuse fan may be jealous of UCONN being part of a conference with 6 of the original 8 original Big East members.

Pitt and Louisville say hello. Theres so many teams in the ACC from the real big east its crazy. Its alright im not mad, we don't get a renovated dome without the ACC.

So, you started following basketball after 2003. That’s fine.

There’s two from the OBE. Plus Pitt who joined a year or two later.

Cuse plays teams like Pitt, Boston College, Virginia Tech, Miami, Notre Dame, Louisville. Feels like the big east plus better to me. All the top schools moved on to align themselves with bigger schools. We leveled up in conferences. Our athletic department is looking good $$ wise. (Look at other schools deficit mentioned in this thread that are supposedly loving the new big east) LOL Their stadiums and fan bases are way bigger. Everything about the ACC is bigger and better. Yes we have a great history in the original big east. Its gone. Its over. Im happy about it. Can't wait to go see that center hung scoreboard

There are some ACC fans who would be glad to see Syracuse and Boston College follow UConn to the Big East. But it ain't gonna happen.

But imagine a group of eastern football independents that included those two plus Army, UConn and UMass. Nice tight geographic unit.

Yes, Syracuse hoops belongs in the Big East. IMO, Ideally, Syracuse could have its hoops in the Big East and everything else in the ACC. But I don't think the ACC would go for that, LOL, and football does drive the bus.

It's unfortunate.

Syracuse was definitely a big part of the Big East's 1980s original Golden Age.

RE: UCONN how is the BE?
Syracuse now has as fellow members of the ACC and as former Big East foes:

Boston College
Pitt
Notre Dame
Louisville
Miami
Virginia Tech

Syracuse would have — were it to hypothetically move to the Big East — as former BE foes:

Providence
St. John's
Seton Hall
Villanova
Georgetown
UConn
Marquette
DePaul

I can see how any fair and reasonable person would call that a toss-up. However, I might give a very slight edge to the Big East as it relates to what would specifically be ideal for Syracuse men's hoops related to those two very specific league groupings.

But in all other categories (football, baseball, academics, women's sports, budgets, TV, endowments, the Duke/Virginia/North Carolina hoops trio, etc.), the ACC is much better for Syracuse than the Big East. Let's put it this way (and as I've noted before): UConn would take an all-sports invite to the ACC today. In short, I would much rather be a fan of Syracuse than a fan of UConn at this point (and that is nothing against UConn, as it will do fine in the Big East).

As a fan of schools in both the ACC and the Big East, I'm pleased with the current memberships of both leagues.
