It is now February 17, 2021 in the East. We are closer to Saint Patrick's Day than we are to MLK Day. Yet, we have heard no word from Biden as regards this Address.

For the record, Donald Trump gave one on February 28, 2017. Barack Obama did on February 24, 2009. George W Bush did on February 21, 2001. Bill Clinton did on February 17, 1993.

Good lord. It's commonplace that the newly elected president doesn't give a state of the Union.

The 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump, gave his first public address before a joint session of the United States Congress on Tuesday, February 28, 2017. Similar to a State of the Union Address, it was delivered before the 115th United States Congress in the Chamber of the United States House of Representatives in the United States Capitol. Presiding over this joint session was the House Speaker, Paul Ryan, accompanied by Mike Pence, the Vice President of the United States in his capacity as President of the Senate.

The real question is, if he does give a State of the Union, will anyone watch it? Tree falling in the woods thing.

I didn't think there were State of the Unions the year a President takes office.

Of course they know that - they're just grasping at straws to find something to complain about.

Right. They gave addresses to a joint session of congress, but they are not officially called SOTU addresses.

Well. There was supposedly a "Town Hall" last night that no one knew about and therefore no one saw. I put quotations around Town Hall because everyone knows the questions were scripted.

Quote:White House press secretary Jen Psaki pushed back on the idea that President Joe Biden would deliver an address to Congress in February, despite the president himself previewing the timing of the speech.

“Next month, in my first appearance before a joint session of Congress, I will lay out my Build Back Better recovery plan,” Biden read from prepared remarks on January 14 in a speech to the nation about fighting the coronavirus pandemic.

Typically an American president delivers his first address to Congress in February after the presidential election. Former President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress took place on February 28, 2017.

Asked by reporters about the timing of Biden’s speech, Psaki denied that the date had ever been set for February.

“We don’t know where the Feb. 23rd date came from,” she replied. “It’s a great mystery. I’ve not Nancy Drew’d that one out today, but it was never planned to be in February and we don’t have a date for a joint session at this point.”

Psaki said the “inaccurate date” of Feb. 23 “created some confusion” in the media about the speech.

“Obviously the president looks forward to speaking to a joint session,” she said. “We just don’t have a date yet for when that will be and obviously that will look different because of COVID.”

But it appears that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have put the brakes on the timing of the speech.

Pelosi told reporters last week that she would not invite Biden to speak until Congress had passed a new coronavirus relief bill.

“We won’t be doing any of that until we pass our COVID bill. That’s the first order of business,” Pelosi said during a news conference last Thursday.

Quote:White House press secretary Jen Psaki confirmed that it would be a couple of months before President Joe Biden would welcome foreign leaders to meet at the White House, even though he has been vaccinated for the coronavirus.

“I would anticipate for all of you that it will be a couple of months before the president has an in-person or invites a foreign leader to meet in-person here at the White House,” Psaki said during the White House press briefing on Tuesday afternoon.

Psaki was asked by a reporter about a comment in January from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s office that Joe Biden had agreed to meet with the prime minister in February.

“You can meet over video as we all know,” Psaki replied when reporters asked about the timing of the meeting with Trudeau. She did not reveal any more details of any planned meetings, either virtual or in-person.

Biden received his first coronavirus vaccine shot in December and his second shot in January.

Typically, American presidents meet with the Canadian Prime minister shortly after their inauguration. Former President Donald Trump met with Trudeau for the first time on February 13, 2017.

Additionally, Trump repeatedly met with foreign leaders during the coronavirus pandemic.

He also met with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel and the leaders of Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates at the same time in September 2020 as they signed the Abraham Accords at the White House.

But Psaki said that Biden would continue a different path in his foreign policy agenda.

“I can assure that this president is not looking to the last presidency for the model of his foreign policy moving forward,” Psaki said. “President Biden has been working in the global arena for decades.”

Quote:President Joe Biden let it slip in an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper that he had never seen the White House residence before he moved in, which would allegedly mean that former President Obama never invited him into his private inner sanctum.

It’s a stunning revelation considering the picture painted in the media of Obama and Biden being close friends and confidants. Biden served for eight years as Obama’s vice president. He’s also been in the Senate for more than 30 years. But evidently, not even once was he invited into the White House living quarters by Obama for a chat.

“I was raised in a way that you didn’t look for anybody to wait on you,” Biden claimed. He also said that he felt “self-conscious” relying on the staff.

Although Biden is referred to as ‘Middle-Class Joe’ by some, he is actually worth approximately $9 million.

“You’d never been in the residence of the White House?” Cooper asked the president.

“I’d only been upstairs in the Yellow Room, the Oval upstairs,” Biden replied.

“I don’t know, I’ve never been there either,” Cooper laughed, trying to brush off the awkwardness of the answer.

This highlighted the seemingly strange relationship between Biden and Obama. “Don’t underestimate Joe’s ability to f— things up,” Obama allegedly said to Politico last August in reference to Biden. And Obama withheld his endorsement of his former vice president for the 2020 election as well until April of last year. Biden had already been on the campaign trail for months at that point.

Cooper asked Biden if living in the White House was what he expected.

“You know, I don’t know what I ever expected it to be. It is different in that, um – [I don’t want to] get in trouble here – I said when I was running, I wanted to be president not to live in the White House but to be able to make the decisions about the future of the country.”

“So living in the White House – as you’ve heard [from] other presidents who’ve been extremely flattered to live there — it’s a little like a gilded cage in terms of being able to walk outside and do things,” he added.

Biden reminisced about the vice president’s residence which he seemed to miss. It is on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Observatory in Washington, D.C. He stated that it was on a larger property with a swimming pool. There was also plenty of room for riding bicycles.

“You’re on 80 acres, overlooking the rest of the city, and you can walk out, there’s a swimming pool, you can walk off the porch in the summer and jump in the pool and go into work,” he recalled.

“You can ride a bicycle around and never leave the property. You can work out, but the White House is very different,” he said.

When Cooper first started the interview, he asked Biden: “You’ve already spent a great deal of time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Except now you’re living there and you’re president. It’s been four weeks. What’s it like? How is it different?”

Biden responded: “I wake up every morning, look at Jill, and say ‘where the hell are we?'”
