Hunter was the Jekyl and Hyde performer tonight. In the end he came up with some clutch free throws when most needed.

Yep. Struggled first half, but huge steals and scores the second half.

Kalu is the quiet star of the game. Aside from rebounds, his stat line is ordinary. But he seemed like a difference maker.

Surprise stats
Green 3-3 from 3, with 16 pts
ODU 10 take aways vs UAB 6
Rebounds, ODU 42, UAB 36
Here a good one, we had 6 blocks to UAB's 1
ODU 47% from behind the arc and 87% from the line

Agree.
Long and Hunter off the bench played well. Hunter didn't miss a shot 2-2 FG and 4-4 FT, along with 3 steals. Looked very confident at the line late in the game.

Green was in fire, and that makes up for a lot. But he made some poor decisions tonight. The charge and the two 5 second calls stand out. But a breakout game scoring.

RE: UAB weekend
I don’t mean this as a slam on Coach Jones, although some of it will sound that way.

His criticism of the team after yesterday’s game as lacking toughness is dead wrong. They did not lose on Friday for lack of toughness. They played their butts off, and competed to the end. But they were ill prepared for what UAB threw at them. That’s on Coach Jones. Either he didn’t foresee what our players were in for, or he came up woefully short in the pre-game preparations. That’s poor coaching.

To his credit, he adjusted and had them ready tonight. That’s good coaching - - on the fly. Whatever he did to switch things up, Coach Kennedy obviously had not expected, or didn’t adequately prepare his players.

It was still a very tight game, against a team that I think we are more talented than. Thank God UAB shoots worse than us, or we would be very unhappy tonight.

One other thing. Beer tastes so much better following a win.

I hear ya. The team played physically really hard in both games. But they did defend much better and rebound better in game 2. UAB shot a lot more jump shots in game 2. UAB got to the rim in the first game. I can see what he meant by toughness is all I’m saying.

Why does everyone just assume the coach made these magical adjustments when the results are different? I don’t think ODU was “more prepared” in this game. Didn’t the players just defend a little better? They were winning at the half in the first game. They seemed prepared to me. They played soft in the second half and UAB had a dunk contest which is what the coach was referring to.

The game looked like a real playground brawl. Very enjoyable IMO. Tough, gritty, hard working. UAB has a solid D and gave us fits. Splitting against them at their house is something to be proud of.

They seemed to play with more aggressiveness in today's game in the lane and around the basket defensively than they did yesterday. Yesterday, just about any time UAB drove the lane they got a fairly clean shot up on the glass. Today things seemed to be more difficult in that regard. Yesterday Lovan scored over 20 points driving to the basket. Today he only took 3 shots.

The box score says he has 2 turnovers, but I saw 5.

1st half: double teamed, he threw a pass that was tipped and stolen by UAB.
1st half: double teamed, he failed to make a pass and was called for 5 seconds.
2nd half: offensive foul driving in the lane.
2nd half: a pass to Oliver sailed out of bounds.
2nd half: 5 second call on ball out of bounds after made basket.

All of those are turnovers that should have been charged to Green. I am honestly not sure which 3 they did not charge to him. Nonetheless, they were all poor decisions. A 5 second call is inexcusable if you have timeouts.

I still think he played a good game. For the most part he played in the flow and he chose good shots (he got lucky on the banked 3). He (and the team) played great defense. But I think the official scorer was too kind to him on the turnovers.

Edit: I have one correction. The errant pass to Oliver was actually ruled a 10 second violation, which means the turnover should be charged to the team.

The 5 second call at the end of the game was bogus. I went back and watched, I didn’t even get to four when I counted.
