Our offense is, if you aren’t with 12-15 feet, you should risk turning it over by forcing your way closer to the basket because not only is our 3 point shooting bad, but suddenly so can be our transition D.
When AK got the job, the pandemic had just begun. No visiting of recruits. Zoom calls only. He had to convince the players from last year’s team to stay that I assume he wanted. He had limited ability to go out there and grab talent in a month. I think he already said this year he will look at the transfer portal to address areas of concern.
AK gets a pass for sure for last years class. He did the best he could in a bad situation. I just wish going forward we wouldn't sign guys that will play on the perimeter that can't shoot from there. Lovan is a great player but he's really a wing that can't shoot the 3. He makes up for it in other ways but you can't have too many players on your perimeter with that skill set. Lovan is a slasher and finisher around the rim. Quan and Ertel are both really mid-range players. That leaves TSG and Bemjamin as the only decent 3 point shooters in the rotation and that's what our stats show.

RE: La Tech Game 2
Lovan fits nicely on a team with a lot of plus shooters. The problem is he doesn’t have that around him right now. I still think in many ways, he is the best player on this team.
I was concerned about Quan and Ertel a bit because both were alphas on their prior teams. Both were volume scorers. Both were trending in the wrong direction as far as percentages were concerned. I’m not beating on these guys, because they do other things well, but the pieces just don’t quite fit together.
All in all, Kennedy has done a tremendous job with the time and circumstances he has dealt with. I think he is smart enough to know what he is missing and he will do what he needs to moving forward. I am very happy with a lot of the things we’ve seen from the team, I just don’t think we have everything we need to be a complete team on the roster.

I can't call player's names like some of you can, but as I have stated before about new coaches, generally they start their tenure with the players who got the previous coach fired. Kennedy deserves the chance. to build his own program with his own players. That takes awhile. While a school can fire a whole staff and hire a new staff in one season, they can't do that with scholarship players. They have to be replaced over several seasons with new recruits who the HC hopes will improve the team's records.

I think AK has done a great job in his first year with a completely revamped team that may be the worst shooting college basketball team I've ever seen...
He's already shown he's a good coach, and we just have to give him time to build the team with his players as he sees fit. We will have a chance to win CUSA and go to the Big Dance in year one. Even if we don't, it's still been a really good season.
The only thing that really irked me Saturday was Benjamin's idiocy, but hopefully that will be handled appropriately and won't be a problem any longer.

I think we are ahead of schedule, given the pieces we have, and am pleased with Kennedy. If anybody got the wrong impression.

Even with his lack of range, I still agree. If we really need a bucket I want the ball in Tavin's hands. If he did have range from distance he would probably be in Kentucky Blue or Louisville Red.

I wish Lovan would try a few 3 point shots when left wide open.

That's not his game. If Tavin knows he can't shoot 3's then he shouldn't do it whether he's wide open for one or not.

I think he could shoot it better than 22%. He really should attempt a couple just to keep the defenses honest. I can’t fathom he’s a worse shooter than the rest of this team on average.

Tavin was 6-22 from 3 last season for 27%. If you based it on shooting %, TSG and Quan are probably the only ones who should have the green light. Since returning from his injury, Quan is 8-21 (38%). Unfortunately, TSG is 1-7 from 3 since dislocating his shoulder 1/31 vs MT. He was just getting on a roll too, scoring 16, 18, and 15 in the 3 games prior to getting hurt.

It only keeps a defense honest if he makes them consistently. If I look at the stat sheet and see Lovan only shoots 22% from three, I'll let him shoot from there all day long into infinity!
If they are daring him to shoot from 3, Lovan can always take a couple of dribbles and shoot a mid range shot which is a better percentage shot. But you're not gonna teach an old dog new tricks this late in the season.

Or late in a career. That goes to my point about having some shooting ability when guys arrive on campus. Occasionally a player can develop into a distance shooter but usually by the time you are a senior in high school (or a juco) you either have some touch from there or you don't. Signing guards that already shoot below 30% from 3 doesn't make sense to me.
