Dbacks have won 6 of 7, and no longer have the worst record in baseball.
Yes, thank you for that, and for Dansby as well.
Although our recent schedule has been very soft these past two weeks, I'm still kinda stunned we are now sitting 10 games over for the moment after never crossing .500 for most of the season. We have a few more against Baltimore, but odds are they win at least one of those if not two, and then it gets a heck of a lot harder for the Braves to maintain their small lead the rest of the way. I'm sure LA, SF and the rest will be looking to tear into our lineup and expose some weaknesses. We're about to find out why those teams are so far ahead of us.
I am also pleased we are finally just 1/2 game behind SD for the WC spot as that may end up being how we sneak into the playoffs again his year if we o end up in it. But with this bullpen, and especially our journeyman "closer" I don;t see how we'd do too much against this year's West elites. Still, it'd be nice to keep our little division streak going if it happens.
Kudos to Max Fried for pitching a great complete 9 inning game for a career first. And Braves decided to spend a little and signed D'arnaud to a two-year deal. Wish they'd get on it with Freeman.
Still pissed off about that trade...

Yeah, I would be too. But at least it wasn't to the Yankees, so there's that.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Welp, Braves swept three straight series on the road against bad teams. It's not much, but it is what you are supposed to do to have a shot. Now we start playing good teams again, starting with my least favorite, the NYYankers. I anticipate the NL east tightening up next few weeks, as we certainly won't win all of these games, and will be lucky to go .500 against NY, SF, LA. Had we not lost Acuna, Ozuna and Soroka, this stretch would have been a lot different, and Braves would be among best records in NL. I do hope they resolve their labor issues in the off season so we can have a chance to see our realteam in 2022.

Cabrera is a strong contender in that contest.
Cabrera/Tigers current contract in total so far: 6 years, 6.3 oWAR, -6.1 dWAR, $176 million.
Pujols/Angels contract in total: 10 years, 10.4 oWAR, -6.3 dWAR, $240 million.
Cabrera has 2 more seasons remaining on his contract. There are two club-option years afterwards that the Tigers can buy out for a total of $8 million, per Spotrac.
Query whether the dWAR number is valid, given that Cabrera has been DH in over 80 percent of his appearances the last 3 seasons.
Either way, for both Pujols' Angels contract and Cabrera's final Tigers contract, the team paid $20-30 million/year for an average of one oWAR per year.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
The Braves and Yankees squared off on Monday, which represented one of the rarest matchups in baseball history. Each team entered play with a nine-game win streak, which was the first such matchup since 1901. Unfortunately for Atlanta, all the batted ball fortune favored the Yankees in this particular game as they earned a 5-1 victory to extend their winning streak to ten games. Hope we can get them tonight to finish with a series split, at least.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Well, crap, Yankers swept Braves in two-game series. 5-4 last night. I guess I should be happy we played relatively well against them, as I know we are down some talent this year, but it still stinks to lose them. Now, onto the Giants, which certainly won't be any easier. Metz and Phils missed a good chance to gain ground last night as both of them lost as well. Nats did win, however, so they moved a little closer.
Edit: I could mention the crap call on a foul ball that hit Joc Peterson and they called him out with a strike, or the no-tag "tag" of Freddie Freeman when he slid into home cleanly but they called him out anyway, which would have made a difference i the game, but I won't. MLB wants NY to win for the ratings boost. NY has won 11 straight for first time in 36 years. Figured it wouldn't have been that long for them.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
New York lost for the 10th time in 12 games — all against the Dodgers and Giants. After leading the NL East for nearly three months, the Mets are seven games behind the division-leading Braves. Happens every year to them it seems. Tough being a Metz fan.
One more day ntil Braves face the monsters of the West. Can we win at least 2 of the six? It's going to be tough.

Depends on how close we are to the number one pick in the draft

of course that could easily change with the new CBA. Think the draft is a place where things could change dramatically. To yes, even include the '22 draft.

Didn't Jansen do one a few years ago against the Cubs?

Huh - he did in 2019 - good memory!
But it wasn't a failed intentional balk.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Orioles break their 19 game losing streak last night with a comeback against the Angels, the current records they "missed" are 21 (1988 Orioles for the AL) and 23 (1961 Phillies for the majors). Per Stathead, they were the first team in baseball's modern era (since 1900) with a -100 run differential in an 18-game stretch.
