Rizzo to Yankers? Looks like they're going for it this year.
Yup. Cubs told Rizzo he's gone from Windy to Apple.

Dodgers are countering with a considerably less splashy move: Danny Duffy. That said, Duffy's not a bad acquisition. In 13 games (12 starts) he's got an ERA of 2.51 and FIP of 3.39. Not a big K guy, and BB/9 rate is worrisome. Also... he's on the IL.
So the perfect Dodger starter - just "resting him" for the playoffs

As I told my Yankee Fan buddy this morning after the Gallo trade - the Yankees strategy seems to be to score enough runs that even their bullpen couldn't blow the lead.
He cried a little, then agreed.

Braves did try to get Adam Duvall back from Marlins, but the Fish said "no."
Started 4 1/2 back of Metz before this road trip, split four games with the Phillies and took three of five from the Mets to pretty much end up where they started before the trip. They haven;t beenabove .500 all yar, but ehy've reached .500 six times now. Go ahead and trade Morton and Smyly while you can get something for them, PLEASE!

Now the rumor is the Dodgers will grab Scherzer.
Quote:SCHERZER TO DODGERS
The Los Angeles Dodgers are making significant progress on a deal that would send them star right-hander Max Scherzer and star shortstop Trea Turner from the Washington Nationals for a prospect-laden return, sources tell ESPN.

Sounds like we're getting Ruiz and Gray and more back for Max/Trea
Question, is this the biggest trade deadline trade ever?

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Report: No felony charge against Braves’ Marcell Ozuna
Outfielder still faces two misdeamenor charges
one count of battery, family violence and one count of simple assault, family violence, both misdemeanors that can carry up to one year in jail.
Major League Baseball’s investigation into the case is ongoing.
Ozuna was re-signed by Braves in February. The deal was for four years and $65 million, with a fifth-year team option worth $16 million, and there is a $1 million buyout.
eta: Ozuna’s representation and the district attorney’s office are in talks for a plea deal and Ozuna is due back in court on August 10.
Ozuna might be able to avoid jail time, but punishment from Major League Baseball still looms. A suspension by the league seems likely, and the Braves will have to choose to handle the situation after the league’s punishment is announced.
...not that it will do Braves much good. This guy seems to have a lot to work out on his own. Real shame.
Braves also relesed former outfielder Ender Inciarte, originally acquired from AZ in the Shelby Miller deal for SS Dansby Swanson. Ender had a few good years here, and is a nice guy, but got lost in the mix, then kind of lost his mojo. Sure someone will pick him up for a look-see, though.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Here's something wierd:
The Braves continued an inexplicable 14-game stretch of following every loss with a win and every win with a loss. They haven’t won or lost back-to-back games since the All-Star break. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it’s the Braves franchise’s longest such pattern of alternating wins and losses since ... 1895. It’s also the longest win-loss-win-loss stretch by any team in MLB this season.

The Dbacks complete a series with the Rangers, then Gallo gets traded.
We face the Dodgers starting Friday.

Scherzer is approving, OK to go to Los Angeles (why wouldn't he?) The rich get richer.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Supposedly, Braves were in on Gallo to the very end before Yankers got him. Of little comfort, but interesting to know what Braves were trying to do. I guess they will do something in the add dept before tomorrow's deadline. Maybe they could combo add/subtract--oh, that's a trade! and get more value.
Of all the things brave didn't do last winter, not re-sgning Melancon probably was their biggest impact blunder. If he was still here, even with the rest of our bullpen being more or less the same, pretty sure we'd be leading the NL East.

We're totally all in sell mode.... Hand gone, Huddy gone. Got 2-3 more to go now.

Yeah, it was hard when we did it, too, but necessary. Worst is sitting on fence twisting. I know y'all will be back again soon.

RE: MLB 2021 Thread
Oh, are y'all talking about this?
I go to the gym for a couple of hours, assuming Scherzer is about to become a Padre, and come out to an IM from a work colleague telling me the Dodgers won the trade deadline. WTF?
I think you can make solid arguments that: 1) The Dodgers paid too much, or 2) the Nats didn't demand enough. So it's probably a good deal. With Will Smith looking solid at catcher for years to come (and Cartaya a terrific but young prospect), Ruiz was looking more like a trade piece. They just needed to make sure they got a good return and I think this is exactly the kind of deal that justifies letting him go. Gray just made his MLB debut and his floor is solid rotation guy but LA's still got some very promising pitching prospects and young guys on the staff. It's a lot but I think they can afford it.
On the other hand, Scherzer is old and generally a red ass. He's probably going to be terrific but why do I have this feeling he could really disappoint?
With Seager close to returning the Dodgers have an interesting log jam in the middle infield, or in the outfield depending on where Turner goes. He makes for interesting insurance (sort of - he's a FA after 2022) if they can't resign Seager but I also like the idea of Seager sliding over to 3B, T. Turner at SS, and J. Turner at 1B. Muncy at 2B then makes Lux an interesting trade piece.
Anyway, maybe the best thing about the deal is what dbackjon was saying about LA earlier: It's a double whammy for SD. They don't get him AND he goes to their division rival.

Just to rub it in: Dodgers payroll for 2021 is now $275MM. Honestly, that really is repulsive.
Hey stever, remember when you thought the Dodgers were refusing to improve the roster because they didn't want to go over the luxury tax threshold?
