Thank you, you are too kind.

But Rice must politely decline. We have not yet reached our potential where we are ready to represent this fine conference on the national stage.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basket...cketology/

There were projections for the last couple of weeks that had CUSA as a 2-bid conference except the teams were UAB and WKU. Swap UAB with UNT now with WKU still projecting for an at-large. What I don't get if they think WKU is good enough for an at-large bid why do they not think they could get the auto-bid by winning the conference tourney?

This weekend games are huge for UNT. A sweep for UNT probably hurts WKU chances for an at-large. A WKU sweep probably makes CUSA a one bid league. A split keeps things status quo.

WKU could win out and lose in the CUSA championship. That would make them 9-1 out of their last 10, probably a NET in the 50s, RPI in the 20's to 30's and a big OOC win.

That's a good resume.

I think they pick up an at large if this happens.

I think WKU could lose another game or two and still get an at large bid as long as the losses are to decent teams like a UNT. In my opinion, WKU is the best team in the conference and they could still win the regular season title which is why I don't understand they are not being considered for an autobid instead of at large.

Basically the experts ( I guess) are saying they don't think WKU is good enough to win the conference tourney but good enough for an at large. I'll be more than happy to see CUSA get two bids but if there is a conference tourney and WKU wins it all this will still only be a one bid conference.

And to be honest, I'm not buying CUSA as a two bid conference.

Experts are just being lazy on automatic bids and just taking highest team in NET. I don’t think this season they will rely solely on the NET. Most of you are forgetting this is just one metric out of many selection committee uses. It’s not the end all be all..

RE: CBS Sports Bracket Projections: C-USA 2 Bid Conference
If CUSA was truly a two bid league the conference would have two teams with strong enough resumes to get a bid without needing to win the conference tournament. CUSA only has one team that meets that standard.

True.

Chances of gaining an at-large bid:

WKU: 25%
Any other C-USA team: 0%

This year the so-called “last four out” might well become the “next four in” if Covid prevents teams from playing at last minute.

C-USA needs WKU to win out and then lose the conference tournament championship game. That is the only way we are getting two NCAA bids.

If I was WKU, I wouldn't even risk playing in the conference tournament. I would bet on my resume being good enough for an at large bid without risking a potentially bad loss in the tourney.

No. Their resume is not that good. And if other conferences, like the WCC or the AAC have teams that do this (assuming the NCAA allows such a thing) then WKU can likely kiss their chance goodbye regardless because instead of Gonzaga being the conference champion they'll be taking an at large spot and the bubble gets popped altogether.

Yes. Their resume is that good if they can win out or only lose one more game before the tourney.

You left out the rest. If everyone who thought they were a lock for the tournament sits out of their conference tournament then WKU finds themselves on the outside looking in because a bunch of autobids that would have gone to the best teams in those tournaments are now going to other undeserving teams. If they win out I think they do have a pretty good resume under normal circumstances but if they sit out and others sit out then the limited number of at large bids will go to the actual locks. Like Gonzaga.

Dont know how true it is but I trust the person on the Western board to posted it

Sources: Houston will host Western Kentucky on Thursday night. Quality non-conference game for both programs.

What will be interesting is to see what a WKU win @ Houston would do for their NET ranking.

Right now, WKU has a NET floating in the 70's. Would one win like that jump them into the 40's or 50's that quick?

Bet Houston would drop more spots than WKU would rise.

But win it first, and then let's see.

CUSA is one of a handful of conferences I try to keep an eye on, just to see how things are progressing, mainly because I follow UTEP some.

Your conference is having a very solid year. Net rankings look pretty good. Congrats!

Never mind.

One-bid league again. That story hasn’t changed since 2012 when Southern Miss got an at-large.

Except about half of those years we’ve been screwed out of a deserved 2nd bid.

I still think WKU has a good resume but they needed to either beat Houston or win CUSA.

Better league this year than some years though.
