Coach's Show Tonight
On TK’s Radio Show tonight, he made the following comments:

In hindsight, he wished that he had treated this past 1 game week the same as he would a normal week with two games. He mentioned that instead of letting the guys’ rest, maybe he should have had them scrimmage on their normal Tuesday game day to keep them in a similar routine to every other week of the league season. He said he will wait until after the Buffalo game on Friday to determine what they will do with their bye next Tuesday.

As for the remaining schedule, he thought that the league would attempt to get as many teams enough games to get them to 19 or close to that number as possible with the limited amount of time left in the regular season. With that said, it is highly unlikely the league will reschedule Toledo’s postponed game at NIU.

He specifically mentioned that they need M. Jackson to play smarter so as to eliminate some of the “live ball” turnovers that are occurring that are going the other way for opponent baskets. He also equated a bad shot as a type of a “live ball” turnover that has players out of position and not being able to get back and set on defense. He did not mention M. Jackson for that problem but referenced it more as a general issue occurring.

He feels that the team is getting great leadership from the captains and that they realize that being in first place, they are getting every other team’s “best shot". While he is pleased with how they have played overall to get them to 11-3, he recognizes they need to clean some things up in order to get back to playing well these last 5 games going into the tournament.

On a question from a caller about transfers and the transfer portal, he said that he is looking for players that are “running to something” instead of players “running away from something.” He said that philosophy has worked for the most part with players like Pearson, Fletcher, Drummond, Buckley, Littleson and Milner being excellent additions to the program. He also said that he has made some mistakes with transfers coming in as well but didn't mention specific names. One name he did mention was Stuckey Mosley who he said he wished he could have convinced to stay as he thought in time he would have developed into a very good player at Toledo.

Thanks for the summary. TK's analysis of recent losses seems right on. The stat line from the bugs game shows MJ with only 3 TOs but I know he had more than that and they all were converted into breakaway scores at the other end. I would like to see Shumate and Milner get more opportunities to be creative on the offensive side. That should take some of the defensive pressure off Rollins and Jackson. Obviously one of the transfer mistakes he referenced was Bizeau. Hey, everybody misses sometimes.

3 teams missed on bizeau-duquense, toledo and ball st-he was that intriguing of a prospect.

RE: Coach's Show Tonight
I don't see things will be getting much better, other than the 7 ( while other teams are much deeper and playing with more), no one else coming off the bench unless it's a blow out. Why is it Maranka or Komagum is not playing some ? I don't want to hear it will upset the chemistry ? What chemistry ?

What chemistry? Are you serious? If ever a team has that intangible it’s this one. We’ve had teams with far more raw talent but none in the TK era that played as a unit like this one. What do Maranka and Komagum bring to the table? Komagum is extremely limited offensively and Maranka showed very little last year. Apart from height and a couple minutes rest for starters (at the risk of being at a disadvantage for those minutes) I don’t see the value of having them in the mix on a regular basis.

Komogum isnt what i would call poor offensively. Hes a clean the glass guy who can dunk with authority. His footwork isnt great but as long as he isnt traveling and can find shooters when the D collapses, hes got to have worth. He played a lot early and helped us vs. Bradley and Xavier. We could play a 2-3 zone with our length easily. Acunzo and Shumate on the corners with him inside would be effective against lots of teams. Littleson and MJ up top? whew. Saunders and Milner would also be excellent plugs off the bench. You could even keep the same starting lineup but go to a 2-3 when teams start to get too many open shots. Aka the last 2 weeks.

Not enough accountability after losses. too many excuses and that other teams are "really good." For gosh sakes BG lost 6 straight before us. One injury... ONE, and wed have to platoon a bunch kf guys with only November experience.

So Coach K is considering a 2/3 zone ? Well that would be a change of pace. He has to do something here, 3 in a row in the lost column is not out of the question. MU 3 point shooters are as follows: Grant 47%, Larry 38.8%, D. Brown 34.8%, Coleman-Lands 30.2 %, M.White 37.2%. They regularly play 10 players. They want revenge.

Miami may want revenge, but K should have the team ready and make adjustments accordingly... There is a lot at stake from here on, and whether 7or 9 Rockets see playing time, I like Toledo’s chances...
