If I recall correctly the Texas power grid is independent of the rest of the US. I'm actually surprised they don't have more fossil fueled plants.
They are about 78% fossil fuel / Nuke.
Anf guess what happens when you drop that 22%, at a time when demand is the highest?
Sounds like they need to go 50% nuke and be done with the problems.
They are generating 4000 MW with wind right now, so obviously not all of it froze.
They lost 20,000+ MW of gas/coal/nuke output, which would make it hard to pin this on wind vs “TX power generation not built for once a decade low temp”.

Agreed. Here's the current wind power production for ERCOT:
Seems like wind is actually outperforming the forecasted production.
So while frozen turbines are causing a drop in electric generation, natural gas, coal, and nuclear all are experiencing drops in production as well. I don't think it's fair to put the blame on renewables for the current situation in the state.

God missed Georgia and hit Texas. Could have a tsunami planned for the East Coast and a 9 pointer for the West Coast. Just when the "brightest and most self important" think they have it licked the divine has a way of leveling their Karma.
Pay close attention to the commodities market. Silver is 27 and change on the exchange but on the street it's trading at 38 today. When that happens it means that ETF's are being used to hold commodity values down via bogus shares on paper. IOW inflation is already here to the tune of about 20% and the Corporate Elite are fudging the numbers down usually for the reason of stockpiling physical commodities at a lower price so they can inflate their advantage over the public in the short term future. It may be time to have a Weimar Party! So some commodities are already in short physical supply and are being intentionally suppressed I figure to cover grossly inflated portfolios with a stable currency that they can allow to inflate to cover market losses, usually 3 to 1 in a crisis.

Bunker and Lamar paid off by student loans. Love the Hunt bros! Besides they are tater patch kin since H.L.'s grandmother was in the family tree.
Anyhow, the price of steak and good seafood (Tuna, Mackerel, Dolphin, etc,) has already inflated about 20%. Can't hide the inflation on perishables. My kids wondered why their Christmas present was a grand a piece of meat from solid butcher shops in their areas. They both went to the grocery store in early January and realized the old man was ahead of the game again. Getting a good cut of beef is tough, as even some of the T bones and Porterhouse steaks you can buy are not well marbled and have gristle. My last decent NY Strip was purely by accident, but I have gotten some good yellow fin.
People who want to know when inflation is present can't look at the crooked market but they can compare their grocery bills month over month and year over year. That's one bit of info I keep just for such clues.

Probably because the "forecasted" value is taking into consideration how many wind generators are down and when they are expected back online in the forecast. Its also why tomorrow is "forecasted" to be much greater than today. (ANd the wind speed is forecast to be identical to today)
It does not change the fact that, at this moment, wind generation is less than 10% of their total output, whereas it should be sitting at 22% (or greater, since that chart may be dated. ) SO while the other fossil fuel generators are at 90% of rated output, wind generators are at 50% of rated output.

Quote:Just think… It was only four months ago when President Trump lectured Joe Biden on wind power’s “glitchy, pricey, bird-slaughtering way to make electricity.”
The liberal media unanimously mocked President Trump for his statements on windmills.
In fact, the Associated Press put out a special “fact check” to condemn President Trump’s arguments and “set the record straight.”
President Donald Trump’s dismissal of wind power as a glitchy, pricey, bird-slaughtering way to make electricity is out of step with the times.
He slammed the technology in his debate with Democrat Joe Biden on Thursday night, falsely contending wind power is dirtier and far pricier than natural gas. Here’s a look at what he said:
…TRUMP: “It’s very intermittent. It’s got a lot of problems.”
THE FACTS: He’s exaggerating the downsides.
Trump’s opinion about wind power being unreliable isn’t shared by many big energy users. By next year, renewables such as wind and solar will be providing more of Americans’ electricity than nuclear- and coal-fired power plants do, says the government’s Energy Information Administration.
And it says that by 2045, renewables will surpass even natural gas in powering U.S. electricity plants.
Now we know that President Trump was 100% correct.
A winter storm this week caused chaos in Texas where power outages were and are still widespread since Monday morning. This means that hundreds of thousands of Texans are without electricity as temperatures fell into the teens near Dallas and in the 20s around Houston.
