Neither Cole nor Gage are great QBs. There is a reason Dinucci was the starter. He was hands down better and so was Schor.
JMU will win with all players making contributions not because of great QB play. We all should have known this going into the season. Gage and Cole weren’t going to miraculously become Dinucci overnight.
Cole was 10-14 with no turnovers. JMU won big. There is nothing to complain about after week one.
Fri night Accuweather forecast at kickoff was winds WNW at 9, gusting to 13.

I don't think anyone was complaining about Cole's performance against an incredibly sorry Morehead State, just commenting that the performance against such a sad excuse for a football team does not portend well for future games against top FCS competition.
As you may recall, my biggest concern with Cole was and is his relative lack of mobility. Against Morehead State, we also saw a few of his passes way off the mark that against better teams could be picks.
But, you are right, we won, plenty to be proud of. That shouldn't prohibit those of us who have concerns at any particular position from posting those concerns.

Baby Giraffe has some decent straight line speed. The flip side is Bernie Kosar-esque moves.

Against a decent defense, Cole is a sitting duck. Not knocking him, just the facts.

Agreed. I have concerns about QB position too.
My point is that there isn’t an upgrade available on the roster or they would be playing. Criticizing Cole doesn’t change the fact that he is the best that we have this season. I also pointed out that the play of the other ten offensive players was critical to the Dukes success. Dinucci was a difference maker. IMO, Cole isn’t going to be one. If he can keep from turning the ball over, we should be competitive with the best teams in FCS.

I am pretty sure I heard Curt mention gusts up to 20 mph during the broadcast but won’t swear to it.

Exactly! In his first game as the new starter, Cole did what was expected - a fine job taking care of the ball. He is very fortunate to have such a great offensive line to protect him. Still, Morehead State was not exactly a challenging opponent. I worry about Cole against much better defenses. We are a much more one-dimensional offensive team than we have been in decades. However, that one dimension, rush offense, is so strong, even dominating, it mostly covers our deficiencies at the QB position.

I remember on here after @ Maine in late Sept 2016 which was a windy game where Schor went 12-22, 137, 1 TD/1 INT, had a lot of passes that were way off, there was at least 1 on here saying ‘We’re never going to make the playoffs with Schor at QB’ (much less Frisco). Look how that turned out

Yes, good reminder.
Last Saturday’s game was played in extremely cold and windy conditions. The over-or-under thrown passes were definitely a head scratcher, but coupled with it being a first game of the season I think CJ performance was “okay” and nothing to be overly concerned about. He didn’t turn the ball over and he managed the game. He does that consistently and JMU will make a deep run in the playoffs.

With our backfield, put Demi Lovoto back there taking snaps and we still would make a deep run.

I don't know.... we've had issues before with QBs that failed drug tests

I'm gonna need you all to calm down about our Robert Morris game. We're 44 hours out and there's no game thread.

What QB s?
I only remember "a QB" who failed a drug test. Was there more than 1?

I knew he was getting high when he said that his specialty was the long bombs. He certainly wasn't talking about throwing a football more than 10 yards downfield. At least not accurately, and certainly not on an MM run offense.

The difference, I think, is Schor was a dual-threat whose scrambling ability had to be respected by opposing defenses. Schor never had gaudy numbers, but I thought he was a fine quarterback.
