Does App classify as Southern though?

Culturally - yes
Weather - no

I always figured Boone was a liberal town like Boulder, CO.

Not quite on that level (that's more Asheville) but Boone itself is pretty liberal. The rest of Watauga County... Not so much. Reliably blue in elections overall, but close margins.

Interesting. North Carolina is one of the few states I haven't visited and hope to get to sooner than later. I had a shot once at transferring to Charlotte for a job but just didn't want to stay with that company.

NC is a good state, probably not top 5 in any category as a destination, but could be considered top 10 in the important ones.

- Cost of living
- vacation spots
- business opportunities
- colleges (affordability too)
- weather

But no Boone and baseball before April isn't one of those things.

The entire conference plays baseball but hardly anyone has soccer. Plus we don't technically even own our soccer stadium.

I get it. But for App its almost impossible to field competitive baseball teams because of our weather, which isn't conducive at all. Whereas we've had VERY successful soccer in the distant past and the weather isn't that much of a concern.

I am also interested in y'alls beer scene. NC seems to be booming with craft beer.

Western NC beer scene is poppin. I brought a beer guide back from a recent trip that shows all the breweries in Asheville and the surrounding area. We went to like 8 spots while we were there and after consulting the guide at the end of the trip, it turned out we barely scratched the surface. Portland is the only other place I’ve been to that was like that with just the huge number of breweries.

I was in Springfield, MO in December for work. I couldn't believe how many breweries were there for a town of it's size.

I lived in Charlotte for 8 years, and then moved to Augusta, Ga. The lack of good local beers in the immediate area was quite the adjustment. It's gotten a little better over the last couple years, but is nowhere like it was in Charlotte.
NC is a great state. I loved living there.

Asheville has taken over Portland on # of breweries /capita, although Portland still has more. The beer culture from Charlotte-West in NC is pretty good. Charlotte is missing what i'd call a flagship brewer, but it has a lot of very good options.

Burial is the best in Asheville.

RE: Baseball Opening Weekend
30 breweries in Charlotte with another 20 in the metro area, still second fiddle to Asheville. I like that one doesn't dominate the scene in Charlotte.

Boone has three breweries, and May baseball trip to Boone should be on the SBC bucket list. Not as good as a mid-October football trip, but there may not be better place to visit at that time (biased of course!).

Counter that a mid-February basketball trip to Boone may be on the bottom 10 if the wind is blowing.

Yes, it took a nosedive, but you have to admit, Boone and western NC is a great place to live and visit. I retired to Murphy, NC for 20 years before returning to Mobile, where many major leaguers have come from.

Looks like the Cajuns have sold the available seats (COVID restricted) for softball and baseball so they are officially sellouts. Unfortunately, for baseball that number is reportedly about 800-1000 when you count the field boxes & suites and is less than 1/4 of what our average home attendance. I haven't heard the number of seats available for softball as yet but I'm betting it's in the 300-400 range.

Burial was probably the top place we went to in terms of the beer. Bhramari and Green Man were also very good. I enjoyed Green Man’s upper level bar with the outside area for the views and then the inside portion of the upper bar overlooked the actual brewery. I thought that was a neat feature. Of the places we went to Highland had the best overall setup and atmosphere. Beer was just OK. But like I said, we barely scratched the surface, so I’m excited to go back and do some more exploring. I have a buddy getting married in Wilmington in early Oct so I may make a trek out to Western NC and the Smokies again after the wedding.

I live in AVL and can give some recommendations for next time; The Wedge. They have two locations so which ever is less crowded works. Both near food and have outdoor space. Hiwire is also very high on my list too for out-of-owners to try. For more of the hidden gym breweries try Zilacoa, Hillman's, Sweeten Creek, and Cursus Keme once it reopens.

TXST ahead of BYU 4-2 after 4 innings in first game of double header today. Four game series will continue on Monday and Tuesday.

I figure we need to run rule them by 10 each game for some revenge after the 38 point beating in football......LOL

Starting pitcher Leigh has 10 strikeouts in 4 innings.
