Why is Memphis not an equivalent hotbed for girls high school basketball like it is for boys?

I don't think an SEC assistant would want to come to a University that is bad at girls basketball, and doesn't have the facilities it takes to win. Doesn't look good when the mens team play in an NBA arena, and have their own practice facility. While the ladies play (and practice) in an a gym that doesn't look appealing at all. There are better high school gyms than what the Fieldhouse looks like now. I know one brings in millions, and the other doesn't. But still doesn't look good.

There are probably a couple out there who would like to run their own program and make a name for themself. And there's only upside to the program. McFerrin made about $250k IIRC. Not sure how much an AC at Ole Miss like Chris Ayers makes, but that's likely a decent raise for him.

AAU programs not as strong, as the money is not there.
But I think there is quite a bit of talent. They just always leave town for SEC.

Great point.

Maybe Freeze will be the one who can lead this program into the 21st century.

You must not be remembering the former Briarcrest female students who came forward all traumatized---with accusations of Freeze's impropriety...like making them undress in front of him.

You must not be remembering the fathers who posted here either. One said he told Freeze if he went near his daughter again, he'd kick his azz

I'm guessing the Tiger Women could handle him without needing their fathers, though.

And maybe Freeze has learned his lesson about throwaway phones vs school phones

There are better high school gyms than what the Fieldhouse looks like now. I know one brings in millions, and the other doesn't. But still doesn't look good.

From Gotigersgo.com:

For the 2020-21 season, the facility is undergoing an extensive $3.5 million facelift that will update the gym's appearance and include added amenities for players and fans. Work on the gym portion will be completed by the start of the 2020-21 season, while renovations to the lobby will continue throughout the season. The renovations were designed by local design firm Fleming Architects.

The upgrades include:

modifying existing concrete risers to provide greater row-to-row spacing and install new arena chairback seating
add new acoustical wall panels inside the gymnasium
repaint all walls, risers, flooring and structure
replace all ceiling tiles
renovate team benches and press area
add air conditioning and heating in the lobby and concourse restrooms
replace all flooring, windows and paint in the lobby
renovate men's and women's restrooms
update concession stands

"Whenever we are able to raise the profile of Memphis women's basketball, I am elated," said head coach Melissa McFerrin, who enters her 13th year at the helm of the program in 2020-21. "These changes will dramatically improve the student-athlete experience, the in-game fan experience and the appeal of our facilities in recruiting."

The current $3.5 million project is the second significant upgrade to the facility in recent years. The last was a two-phase plan that began in 2011 and improved "behind-the-scenes" areas of the Fieldhouse.

My choice for next head coach is Ashley Easely. Went to high school basketball in Memphis, I believe she was an all american player for Vanderbilt. Has been coaching since graduation and has coached with some very good coaches at 7 or 8 div one universities. She is presently an assistant coach at Penn State. This would be her first head coaching job. Bring the Woman Home!

Yeah long before he was cheating like hell at Ole Miss, there were some very troubling allegations while he was at Briarcrest.

Girls not meeting dress code, and them changing in his office with Freeze present.

Now.... Do we blame the porn industry for stuff like this? I mean, that is loosely the premise of half the "scripts" of those things, from what I am given to understand.

That sounds like the right kind of person for the job - if she WANTS it.

That's the one missing ingredient that only the applicant can really answer.

Three of them. 2 of them, girls. Dude, I'm being serious. The porn industry has ruined countless marriages, and who knows how many father/daughter relationships. I seriously wonder if some situation like Hugh Freeze is a direct result of the proliferation of on-line porn. And my last sentence is a recognition that a lot of men think the "Mr. Mckluski, I need a passing grade" type script is funny and cute until we see something like that happen in real life.

The only thing online porn has ruined is the need for those old Sears catalogs and SI swimsuit magazines.

the pedos , along with relationship ruiners, have existed independently throughout human history---even the history before Gore invented the internet

It used to be Hustler magazine and worse was the only place you could find that kind of stuff. I just believe it has grown exponentially since the 70s.
