High school tournament blues
District tournaments are next week at the higher-seeded team's court instead of at a common court as usual, because of Covid. Magazine should host games Monday and Tuesday nights, weather permitting, which it probably will not. That throws everything out of sync. Covid had knocked out Magazine vs. Mountainburg earlier in the season, but Burg beat league-leading Lavaca last night, so they want to make up the game tonight in case they can improve their seeding. So, this old man has to give up a quiet Saturday evening at home and forge out in the the frozen elements to call the game.

Regional tournament is supposed to be hosted by Magazine. However, whereas in the past the games started at 4 pm and continued back to back through the evening, now they start at 10 am and continue every three hours ALL DAY - for four days. And guess who gets to be there for the whole confounded thing? Ol' Pappy, who is, of course, an unpaid volunteer (which is the way I want it - not complaining about that). Ordinarily there would be a hospitality room that compensates somewhat, and Magazine typically does that up first class - but not this year, of course, by AAA guidelines.

You are going to see one tired out old man by that Saturday night.
