A big second half defensive effort led the charge here. Liberty couldn't score for 28 minutes in the second half!

Volleyball Dukes lost to NU in the semis of the CAA Tournament today 3 sets to 1. The Dukes won the first set but then dropped the next three. Bummer.

Didn't see it mentioned elsewhere, but MSOC beat W&M on Friday in W'burg 1-0. Dukes are 4-0-1, 3-0-0 CAA going into this Friday's regular season finale at home against #9 UNCW who's coming off a loss yesterday to Coastal.

I'd like to see us become a powerhouse in soccer. I think there is more upside to it long term than some other sports and I also think a school like JMU could be a national contender year after year much like Akron or Portland State in the past. Especially if we can get some DC United Academy products to come to JMU or have another CJ Sapong type player come through our ranks we can really take off as a program.

We have had three players drafted or signed by the MLS in the past two years. Things are certainly looking up for JMU M Soccer!

When I was in school a few years ago and was able to attend games there was some real excitement. The team seems even better now so it will be great to see the momentum and alumni get behind the team.
The athletic department did some great giveaways for students to attend the games like JMU purple soccer scarves, shirts, Vuvuzelas (when they were all the rage around World Cup time), and some other stuff. Men’s soccer would be an underrated way to get some more national attention and compete with the big dogs.

The last Soccer game I attended was at UVA when they were #1 and had Bruce Arena as head coach. Must of been at least 20 years ago. I think we had a real good player, but have no idea who it was.

In both men’s and women’s soccer. It was just a few years ago the women made a deep run in the NCAAT, and wasn’t it just two seasons ago the men made the Elite 8? That was the first year under JMU’s new HC.
JMU is already competing against the so-called “big dogs”...the issue is sustaining that success in consecutive years.

Was his name Tony Meola? He was a goalie for UVA. I feel like UVA played at JMU for that game and won the game 1-0. Meola was heckled the entire game from students behind the net. The old soccer field was next to the old baseball field near The Village.

I was at that game in Charlottesville as well. I think JMUs best player on that team was McSorley.

Yeah one Elite Eight is great but that's just one year, sort of like GMU and VCU making the Final Four in basketball. It was great season and all but what else did they do? I want to be a Gonazaga (or Portland St/Akron in soccer) where being in contention for a Final Four team is expected of you, not just a Cinderella season.
I think soccer is where we have the best chance of being that dominant year in and out because the DMV+NC is a soccer hotbed for talent that fuels highly ranked teams like UMD, GU, UVA, VT and add in UNC, NC State, Wake and UNCW there is a lot of talent to draw from in our backyard. heck even Marshall is good this year + Highpoint and CCU. Its kind of like how the DMV + NY/NC is the epicenter of lacrosse talent as well. If we had a men's lacrosse I'm sure we'd be an annual top 20 team there too.

I was there for that one....unbelievable atmosphere. It was '89, Virginia was #1 with Meola and UVa won in OT 2-1. They went on to win it all that year

JMU Field Hockey clinches a tie for first-place in the conference, and the #1 seed in the CAA tournament. Today's 2-1 win over Delaware snaps a 6 year losing streak, and the first win at home against Delaware since 2011. The Dukes are currently 4-0 in conference, 4-1 overall. They'll wrap up regular season play @ Northeastern (3-6, 1-2 CAA) on Sunday at Noon.

Good to see the Dukes field hockey team back on track after a couple down years (at least to our standards). Another team that in a non-Covid abbreviated season would be playing a challenging schedule of ranked teams.

Drexel has the CAA PotY in Laolu Daranijo. He scored 10 goals this year, which is more than our entire team scored (9). Really a tale of contrasting styles Offense vs Defense. Should be a good game.
