I remember that day. Actually I think it was right before Christmas (for some reason I thought it was December 26 but now I am reading up on it and it says it was December 23, 1989). My brother and I drove up to Dallas the next day to attend a Dallas Cowboys/Green Bay Packers football game (we grew up as Packers fans). Apparently it was 23 in Dallas by the next day, but I do remember none of the bathrooms were working because of burst pipes. You had to use the port-a-potties they brought in for that game. That was the coldest I've ever been in my life (and I used to live in Wisconsin).

I was there that day Houston Light and Power flew me in for an interview. I remember thinking I didn’t think Houston got that cold.

We were headed to my parents' home in Alabama for Christmas. We usually went I-10 to Slidell, then north on I-59. But the long causeway bridges between Lafayette and Baton Rouge had inch-think ice on them, so instead we went north through Shreveport and Jackson, MS. Driving north to avoid ice seemed a bit odd. When we got to Vicksburg for the night, the motel attendant had to go to the room with us and use a cigarette lighter to heat the lock enough that they key would work. Next morning, the ice chest that we had left in the truck was frozen solid, and all the drinks inside were frozen.

I lived in a townhouse complex with about 160 units. So many of the people had left town for the holidays and the water was just pouring down the sidewalks from where pipes had burst in their house. Nothing you could really do about it.

The only good news is that it's a holiday for many people so perhaps everyone will just stay off the roads. We're even less used to driving in that type of weather than Austin/San Antonio/Dallas.
It doesn't surprise me that we're getting an extreme event like this. For those of you joking about global warming, wait until this summer. Extreme cold winters usually are followed by extremely hot summers.
Bwahahaha. Dammit man. Read a damn real book about the Earth's climate during the last 100,000 years.

So, will, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stay [you] from the swift completion of [your] appointed rounds"? Be REAL careful out there.

The temp gets around zero for a day or so and we're all going to die.
If it's hits 100 this summer we're all going to die.
Lord knows these things have never happened before in the history of the earth.

Forbes. Gtfoh. Read a real book. I have. It's all 100% horseshit. I've posted primary references here. It's all about control. Wake up.
So on top of it all you are a climate tard too. I'm not gonna hold your hand here. Sometimes I feel like I'm trying to explain why my favorite color is blue to a dog

Not many of you go back this far. But in 1960 in Houston, there was a freeze around Christmas time and my infant son's diapers froze along with the pipes that were in the attic. The drive home from Houston to El Paso was treacherous.

In 1960 you already had a son? I was barely eleven. Man, you're old. Would you characterize yourself as an old hippie?
