This weekends games
GCU is hosting Northridge in non con
Seattle hosts New Mexico State
Utah Valley hosts Dixie State in what I think is the most exciting game this week. They are renewing their nearly 50 year old Old Hammer Rivalry, first played when they were both in the Juco ranks playing in the Scenic West.
They have played 3 times in recent years in exhibition games, and now they are back in the same conference. That rivalry, and the addition of SUU is going to be an important part of the WAC going forward. These rivalries between instate schools, within driving distance, right in the heart of the conference footprint are exactly what the WAC needs. Exciting times! Maybe the coverage this is getting in St George, Provo/Orem, as well as in Salt Lake on KSL will help pique the interest of Weber even more.
Other games are cancelled this week.

GCU isn't playing this weekend. They're still shutdown due to the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

GCU isn't shut down anymore. They got the ok for team activities two days ago. The CSUN game was cancelled before the UTRGV games were.

Just curious but what kind of coverage are they getting over there? Anything additional compared to usual?

RE: This weekends games
Damnit I was hoping for GCU to get the WAC another non-con win. I do want to check out that Dixie/UVU game though. I have not watched much of either team.
As for Seattle, I’m hoping for comfortable NMSU wins. But this year I will not count on that against anyone. I’ll be happy with a win period.

Look like Cal Baptist is going to play Sacramento State tomorrow and Sunday.

Congrats to SU, y'all played damn good. I thought We'd do better, but I can't get a handle on this Aggie team. We lack the good big men like all the teams we've faced so far.

Seattle did play well. They didn't have tons of turnovers and shot and defended well. NMSU committed too many turnovers and just played flat.

RE: This weekends games
I only watched the first half of UVU v Dixie. Dixie got down by 20 in the first half due to a 19-2 run by UVU, only to go on a 17-5 run of their own to get it to an 8 point deficit at halftime. UVU won 87-72.
Aimaq for UVU rarely looks dominant, but always ends up with tons of rebounds and continues to lead the nation in rebounding at about 15 per game with 10 double doubles.

They were on their game last night. Grisgby helps a lot. Its a shame he couldn't play versus Dixie.

RE: This weekends games
NMSU is just not the defensive team they were a season ago. Unless Jans gets this hammered out, this will be a non-eventful season (no post season play) for NMSU. The team has a lot of talent but it lacks senior leadership. Our team leader is Junior; Jabari Rice; but he is not 100% healthy. I'm almost ready to move on looking forward to the 2021-22 season.

RE: This weekends games
Seattle made it a game. Lots of splits in these weekend series. Other than GCU, not much separation has developed in the league.
For those that didn't watch Dixie beat UVU, it was a hard fought game with a lot of big performances. Dixie State big guy Schofield scored a career high 3I. Woodbury had 27 for UVU and Aimaq, the nations top rebounder pulled down an incredible 25 rebounds along with 18 points.
I'm happy for Schofield because he got this performance in a rivalry game, played a few miles from where be grew up, in a game where fans were actually allowed. And he's a Senior, so the opportunities are quickly ticking and away.

Surprised we split with CBU. We're a terrible road team. Good road win for the Hornets.

Cal Baptist doesn't have the depth to win two games in two nights.

RE: This weekends games
This season's WAC is all about the point guards and the centers...
Javon Levi (UT Rio Grand Valley)... 10.7 ppg... 5.9 apg... 4 tres (50.0%)
Ty Rowell (California Baptist)... 15.6 ppg... 5.8 apg... 45 tres (41.7%)
Darrion Trammell (Seattle U)... 19.6 ppg... 5.5 apg... 32 tres (37.6%)
Jovan Blacksher Jr. (Grand Canyon)... 11.7 ppg... 5.4 apg... 15 tres (30.0%)
Trey Woodbury (Utah Valley)... 16.7 ppg... 4.1 apg... 26 tres (41.6%)
Evan Gilyard II (New Mexico State)... 9.5 ppg... 3.4 apg... 14 tres (30.8%)
Cameron Gooden (Dixie State)... 13.6 ppg... 3.2 apg... 23 tres (33.8%)
Montre Gipson (Tarleton State)... 14.8 ppg... 3.1 apg... 20 tres (54.1%)
At one time, I thought NMSU had one of the top PGs in the WAC. Right now, I'm not so sure.
Fardaws Aimaq (Utah Valley)... 15.7 ppg, 15.5 rpg... 53.6 FG%
Gorjok Gak (California Baptist)... 12.9 ppg... 10.5 rpg... 60.8 FG%
Asbjorn Midtgaard (Grand Canyon)... 14.8 ppg... 9.7 rpg... 74.4 FG%
Sean Rhea (UT Rio Grande Valley)... 14.8 ppg... 6.3 rpg... 51.9 FG%
Johnny McCants (New Mexico State)... 10.4 ppg... 6.1 rpg... 43.1 FG%
Again, although undersized, I thought NMSU had one of the best centers in the WAC. Now, McCants is physically a shell of his former self; and laboring with nagging injuries through this season.
