Techsters open the season with a gutsy win in sub-freezing temperatures.
Tech beat ULM 3 to 2 in Monroe.

It's too damn cold to be playing baseball/softball right now. It's 30 degrees in Ruston right now.

Unless the forecast changes USM should be able to finish it's invitational as forecast is clear the rest of today (Friday) along with the weekend. The rain actually stopped before 9 am today but with as much rain as we got Wednesday and Thursday there was realistically no chance of good outfield conditions. Still going to be wet and soggy in the outfield tomorrow but at least it will have had 24 hours to somewhat dry out with the low 40s temp conditions.

Must be nice to enjoy a balmy 30 degrees. It's 18 degrees on the Red River right now.

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
UTEP had a rough start, losing to Oklahoma in El Paso, 29-0 in 5 innings. OU hit 13 home runs in the game. Ball flies out there.

It’s a three team mixer with Abilene Christian, who is coached by former Marshall pitcher Abigail Farler (was Harter in school). ACU beat UTEP and lost twice in big fashion to OU, too.

Meantime, Marshall hasn’t released a 2021 schedule yet. I think they’re struggling to get non-conference games lined out. I know they go to the Myrtle Beach area in a couple of weeks.

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
North Texas had a bad start to the season today. The Mean Green spotted Nichols St. too many runs early in the game, and even a late 5 run finish wasn't enough to pick up the win. UNT fell by a score of 9-7.

Hopefully the girls get back on the field soon and get their game straightened out. Not sure if the weather is going to cooperate.

RE: 2021 Softball Thread
North Texas picked up an easy win in their second game of opening day by beating Southeastern LA 6-2. Mean Green ace Hope Trautwein recorded 21 strikeouts in the game. 21 strikeouts in a 7 inning game has only been accomplished by 3 pitchers in the history of college softball. I believe Hope is the only pitcher to do it twice. ESPN needs to put her on real TV.

UNT is scheduled to play #6 Texas in Austin on Wednesday. We will see if that game gets played.

I was just about to post about this. Trautwein is outrageously good. I'm not sure if the team will be able to get to Austin in time. The weather is about to get a lot worse.

Her name was Harter and now it's Farler? Didn't really step out of the phonetic box much on that one. Let's just be thankful she didn't combine the two names.

Her first 21-K game (last year) was in 8 innings.

USM wins 3-0 over North Dakota and 2-1 over Murry St. on Saturday, and then on Sunday lose to winless North Dakota 4-2 in 9 innings, wasting a 16K game by true freshman Karten Pierce.
