I you define big as greater than 5. Winning the close ones suggests a team with confidence, determination, and persistence. Does that describe ODU basketball? IDK, but the record in close games seems to suggest it.

Winning close games is also a sign of having a good X’s and O’s coach.

They were 2-8 in 5 point games last season. I'll take the 6-0 over that all day.

Life comes at you fast. One year ago, half the league was convinced Charlotte was going to turn it around because Sanchez was a winner. Now, in his third year, they still suck, and other than Young, I'm not sure they have a single player that would get quality minutes on our roster, with which we're not happy.

Which is the one thing I will give JJ. He's pretty good with the Xs and Os.

RE: Charlotte week
I watched the replay of the game this afternoon. I can't say I was totally impressed. Our defense was definitely good, but we still had mysteriously poor offensive sets and dry spells, and they practically abandoned getting the ball to the post in the second half. Curry is really good, but needs to pass the ball rather than try to beat 4 or 5 guys by himself. Kahlu is a beast! I thought our offense was actually quite smooth in the first half people were moving with out the ball and they were looking to do things other than jack up terrible 3 pointers. I really like the rotation where they run two guys off the same screen one after the other, it looked like it was working really well in the first half and creating some really good open shots. I thought we got away from that smooth offensive flow a bit in the 2nd half.

Couple of other things. Did Alfis hurt himself on his one and only shot? He looked like he was slow, not moving well, and limping slightly from that point forward. I would like to see Green's minutes continue to get cut, and I am not sure if it was the opponent, or JJ getting more comfortable, but I liked the increasing role for Long and a few others. Still too many turnovers and bad shots, but I will take the win in a dominant fashion any time.

EXACTLY ! That simple. while one shooter can keep you in the game sometimes you still need some level of balance. Charlotte aint got that right now.

What I noticed about Charlotte was that when the game started to go a little south, the players' body language was really telling. It seemed to me most of the guys on the floor just had that hang dog look -- like "well ____ (enter desired expletive here), here we go again."

They are probably saying the same thing recently about ODU in football.

If that is what they are wishing, their wishes are likely to come true much sooner than they want.

CLT is a real mystery. From Cornbread Maxwell thru the 90's they were a very promising Bball team. Not sure why the bottom fell out, but they've never bounced back. Now I'm not so sure they are moving forward in footbal. What has happened to their athletic Dept.?

I'm old enough to remember they made the Final Four in the late 70's. I've always thought that they have had a lot of the same challenges ODU has had. Urban campus in a large city shadowed by ACC schools, and don't have a lot of deep multi-generational fan following. I have two close friends, both Charlotte alums, who have minimal interest in their alma mater, they are both staunch Tar Heel fans because they grew up being Tar Heel fans. It's also not helped that they have had a lot of coaching turnover in men's hoops.
