Baseball is huge in the south. But its not a big deal in the northeast. There are a lot of colleges up here that have baseball but no one ever talks about it. Not even on the news sportscast do they talk about it. College baseball is just not much of a factor up here. Baseball may be the third sport in the south, but lacrosse likely occupies that spot in the northeast.

Yep!
that 's why the #1 lacrosse team (Duke) and the #2 lacrosse team (Carolina) are in the South?

And that is why the #1 team with the most lacrosse national championships (10), Syracuse, is in the northeast.

XLance, you need more practice on the delivery of your zingers.

I grew up near Pittsburgh and was a Pirates fan from birth.

I became an ND baseball fan when the Irish hired Paul Mainieri in 1995 and began to succeed in the Big East and make noise on the national level.

The internet made it easy to follow online, on the radio and on TV.

ND made it to the 2002 College World Series, hosted regionals and won lots of games.

So, I am a college baseball fan.

I am a Pittsburgh Penguins and ND hockey fan.

I am not much of a lacrosse fan.

Both sports were invented in CNY....ok maybe baseball isn't totally for sure...but lacrosse is an Iroquois game.

Context my friend. We are talking about college baseball. MLB is a bigger deal in the northeast than it is in the south. College baseball not so much.

Hey, if we are going to count lacrosse championships from the 1800's for JH, we might as well count SU's basketball championships from the 1920's.
05-nono

Unfortunately, the NCAA doesnt recognize SU's basketball championships from the 1920's anymore than they recognize JH lacrosse championships from the 1800s

Yeah, I thought that was a no brainer. I guess they wanted to take a stand that only ND could be a partial member.

Opposite, they wanted in the ACC. ACC didn't want them. Then the Big Ten.

My guess is the ACC lax coaches didn't want to help elevate a competitor. I think that thinking was short sighted.

It made no sense to pass on Hopkins. Lots of talent in Maryland. Cuse's biggest rival. Would give the ACC six teams.

It’s easier to schedule games with an even number of teams. I don’t know that the ACC had an opportunity to add Hopkins as an “even numbered” addition. Pre 2013, the ACC had 4 lacrosse teams; post expansion, the ACC was scheduled for 6 lacrosse teams.

After Maryland announced its departure, then the ACC could have made an overture towards Hopkins. But I thought that Maryland immediately convinced the BIG and Hopkins to come together.

I had not heard that the ACC had a realistic opportunity.

No the ACC didn't invite them... Hopkins wanted to join the ACC after Maryland left. Would you rather play large state cow colleges or your old friends in the Mid Atlantic and VA/NC

Bummer. If Hopkins wanted to be the sixth member, that should have been a no brainer. Especially since it would have opened a lost geography and hurt Maryland. From Hopkins’ perspective, the ACC footprint and lax schools make a lot more sense.

#4 ND beat #1 Duke today, 13-8.

It was the second lacrosse game I ever watched in my life.

(ND/Syracuse a couple of weeks ago was the first)
