Lomax should get majority of mins at PG.
Since Deandre became eligible (first game of the conference season) against Tulane, these are the average mins played for the conference season.
Deandre, Lester and Nolley tied at the top for approx 26.5 mins played.
Then DJ at 4th with 23.5 mins and Lomax at 5th with 23 mins played.
Then Cisse is at 6th with approx 19 mins played.
Boogie and Baugh are tied for 7th with approx 16 mins played.
Then Jayden with 12.5 mins played.

IMO Boogie is a better guard than Baugh and Jayden. Jayden shouldn’t average anywhere close to 12.5 mins per game. The problem is not Lomax playing more mins; the problem is giving a decent chunk of mins to a guard who consistently has no impact on the game.

Jayden had 6 minutes in the last game which I think is still too much in a close game. He really just doesn't do anything when he's on the floor. In his last 5 games he's played 50 minutes, scored 12 points on 3-14 shooting and 4-4 from the line, had 5 rebounds, 0 assists, 2 steals and 1 foul. It's just silly to give him 10 plus minutes a game when there are better players that should be playing.

Jayden should be in the game for free throws.

Baugh is becoming automatic on that corner 3. I've seen progress from him and Boogie. Used to be when Boogie drives, it was for a shot. Now Boogie seems to spot the person that's open for 3 and get them a nice look.

Baugh just has to hit his layups. I thought the dunk at SMU would spark something, but an aggressive Baugh would be something to behold.

That would be a disaster... Baugh does not have the offensive skills needed to have the offense run through him.

Baugh has the worst Turnover % rating of anyone on the team, including the walk ons.

Every 100 possessions Baugh is in the game, we turn it over 25 times (or something like that)

To be honest I really haven't seen him turn the ball over any more than the rest of our guards do. I even looked back at the game logs and compared turnovers and to some of the other guards on the team.

Lomax has had 5 games with 3 or more turnovers this season compared to Baugh's 2 games with 3 or more...granted Lomax has seen increased minutes over the last 5 games.

Nolley with 7 games of 3 or more turnovers this season

Boogie with 5 games of 3 or more turnovers this season

Really Quinones has the least turnovers this season, but he just doesn't have the handles or quickness to run point.

Bring me back to at least trying out Baugh and see what he can do for a game or two at the point position.

We have posters who want to give more minutes to Boogie and Baugh, who since Wichita State, collectively have 14 assists and 17 turnovers, versus Lomax who has 42 assists and 15 turnovers in 58 LESS minutes over the last 7 games. Average it out over 40 minutes and it is nothing short of a bloodbath. Boogie and Baugh are at 13.2 points, 2.5 assists and 3.0 turnovers. Lomax is at 15.7 points, 10.0 assists and 3.5 turnovers.

Our point guard play is finally semi decent and we have fans doing cartwheels trying to find any excuse in the book to sit Lomax.

It is incredible how some of our fans call Boogie our "real" point guard, say that Penny should give Boogie a game all his no matter what to go wild, and that when it is OBVIOUS that Baugh is nowhere near able to run a D1 offense; they STILL want to find crazy excuses to sit Lomax.

Penny DOES have to find a way to get Boogie and especially Baugh going. Both lack confidence; Baugh's is totally shot. Baugh has been playing much better off of the ball lately, making very nice cuts to the baskets and finding gaps where he has been good from outside.

The way it happens when you have Derrick Rose, CDR or even Will Barton is to give them their minutes knowing that they will work out of it soon. With players like Boogie and Baugh, the solution is universal to any sport with every single player at their level.

They just have to keep working hard in practice, and they have to find a way to maximize the minutes they get to earn more minutes. Many of us have been on both ends of it. When you are a very good player, you can do different things to break out of it, because you get lots of minutes. When you're not a great player, it can be really cruel. Every single mistake is magnified 10X and the pressure is awful.

However it happens, the answer right now is NOT to give Baugh or Boogie any of Lomax's very well earned minutes. I do agree that Boogie should be getting some of Jayden's minutes, because Jayden is in a funk also. Not Lomax.

I thought the same thing...He's got a pretty unflappable core there at the line. He seems to be going thru a no-confidence phase elsewhere on the floor. But I still remember how he came into the game and lifted the whole team earlier in the year.

Teams will press LQ, Baugh, Boogie and Nolley relentlessly when they bring the ball up the court. Against pressure, none of them can set up the offense. Lomax has been especially GREAT getting the ball past midcourt. Opposing defenses treat him differently because they know he can make them pay.

When he was in high school, and his freshman season, he rarely dribbled with his left hand. He improved a lot last season and has improved even more this season. Even when he was having really bad games, he was still very good at getting the ball over the time line.

I think when we aren't running good offense, there isn't much to choose between Lomax, Baugh and Boogie. None of them are good. With more motion, it seems that Lomax is the only one that dribbles with his head up and is able to find the open man.

I will say again that Baugh's movement without the ball has improved 100% in the last few games. I think Boogie is close to permanently turning the corner; he just has to be a little more consistent.

You may be right on turnovers. His rate this year has improved, and he is no worse than most other guards. However, the rest of his numbers do not support him taking minutes away from Lomax.

Per 40 minutes, this year:
Lomax 11.4 pts, 5.3 rebs, 3.4 stls, 8.3 asst, 3.4 to
Baugh 8.7 pts, 4.8 rebs, 2.5 stls, 4.3 asst, 3.1 to

Not Lomax.

I don’t get it either. Lomax is playing way better than either one.

It would be nice to see this happen if we ever had a 25+ point lead early on in a game, but I just want to see an offense built around him for a game and see what he is capable of doing with that time. We know he's got the body and we just want to see him be aggressive, assertive, vocal, movement with the ball, movement without the ball...bring back that fire in his belly that was there in the game last year against UT. That player in that game is going places. He seems asleep the majority of the time. I think out of all the guards we have on this team, he could have the most potential, if he just focused and did things on the court with a purpose.

I only said to run the offense "through him" in a game or two to see if we can get him back on track confidence-wise and let him find his shot, whether that is on drives to the bucket or in mid-range to 3 game. I did not say let him run the offense. He probably is more suited for the 2 position because of his average handles. He needs to get a few more touches on offense in the game. I like a lineup with Lomax, Baugh, Nolley, Williams, Cisse. It doesn't really matter if that ends up being the starting lineup though because Penny is going to sub in guys every 3-4 minutes anyways. I definitely agree that Lomax needs to be on the court to break any press or distribute. Don't make me out to be a hater on any of these guys because I am rooting for all of their success. The more players we have reaching their goals, the better off this team will produce throughout the season. Now that we have Lomax playing his best ball, Cisse taping into his potential on defense and lob passes (that are put on the money, otherwise trainwreck), Nolley hitting 3s, Williams being a swiss-army knife, and Quinones being the glue guy - we need to now see if we can get Baugh to play up to his potential and Boogie for that matter.

Run the offense through 3.9 points per game Baugh, like he's Michael Jordan or James Harden. Showcase his mad skillz and let him put up 25-30 shots and see what happens. I'm sure it will turn out awesome.

OR...

Put down the pipe.

Not Lomax.

What you said was worse...

Quote:I want to see 1 game where Coach Penny tells Baugh this is your game to go nuts. Be selfish with your shot selection and try to drive to the bucket aggressively, shoot the open 3s, run the offense through him. It would be nice to see this happen if we ever had a 25+ point lead early on in a game, but I just want to see an offense built around him for a game and see what he is capable of doing with that time.

Lighten up Francis...

Run the offense through 3.9 points per game Baugh, like he's Michael Jordan or James Harden. Showcase his mad skillz and let him put up 25-30 shots and see what happens. I'm sure it will turn out awesome.

OR...

Put down the pipe.

Or the reason he is only averaging 3.9 ppg is due to only taking 2-3 shot attempts per game during his 10-15 minutes each game. I don't want to see 25-30 shots like MJ, but I would like a game where he plays 20+ minutes and gets up 10-15 shots. Heck there have been games this year where we gave Boogie 10+ shot attempts and Lance definitely got up his shots multiple games last season. If it doesn't turn out well, then at least we'll know going forward that Baugh doesn't have the potential to be special on offense and move on to the next guy. I don't want Baugh to end up transferring somewhere else and then he gets that opportunity and it turns out he was capable of being a scorer due to someone else giving him the chance to put up shots/ find his shot. He's never going to gel offensively, if he's only putting up 2-3 shot per game. He's probably putting all his pressure in on making those 2-3 shots just to get more minutes in the game and he needs the leash let out a little. Again, only want to see it in maybe 1-2 games and hopefully in games with bad competition. Now is probably too late in the season bc the rest of the games mean too much for possible tourney play.

What say you Stammers? (As I hand over my peace pipe)

You don't do it for the same reason you don't run your offense through Lomax or Dandridge, even though they are shooting 50.0% and 46.8% from the field. There aren't shots to be had for them. Nothing is stopping Baugh from shooting more except that he can never create his own shot, doesn't move well without the ball, and up until the last 7 games, has not shot well from outside.

In one way I look at him now the same way I've looked at Lomax the last two seasons. Lomax was good from outside last year, and has been good from outside this year. I wouldn't mind at all if Lomax shoots more often from outside.

Baugh is 5-8 from outside in his last 7 games. IF he can continue to keep playing better away from the ball and can get open, I wouldn't mind at all if he starts shooting more from outside so we can see if this is improvement or an aberration.

I for sure don't want the ball in his hands and I for sure don't want anyone running set plays for him. Virtually everyone else on the team is a better scorer than him.
