Exclamation FCS & NMSU 2021 Spring Season
Thought it would be fun to have an all encompassing thread keeping tabs on the future WAC schools & NMSU as they compete this spring.

Tarleton State opens up their 2021 spring season this coming weekend against Southland school McNeese State in what is the first FCS game of the spring.

The Texans have four games against D1 foes or schools in transition like they are - McNeese, New Mexico State & two versus Dixie State.

This weekend's game should be a good measuring stick for the Texans!

Also of note, HeroSports FCS Top 25 includes Sam Houston State at No. 20.

Preseason Top 25
1. North Dakota State
2. South Dakota State
3. Weber State
4. James Madison
5. Villanova
6. Northern Iowa
7. Kennesaw State
8. Furman
9. Illinois State
10. North Carolina A&T
11. Austin Peay
12. Albany
13. Delaware
14. Eastern Washington
15. Nicholls
16. Southern Illinois
17. New Hampshire
18. Jacksonville State
19. The Citadel
20. Sam Houston
21. Elon
22. Monmouth
23. Wofford
24. Chattanooga
25. Southeastern Louisiana

Received votes: Alcorn State, UT Martin, SEMO, William & Mary

McNeese State shared the policies and procedures for Tarleton State's tailgate and ticket experience for the game this weekend (yes, could've gotten on the Tarleton site, but was already on McNeese site for something else).

Since the governor of New Mexico cancelled the fall football season for all New Mexico schools. It makes sense that NMSU would play their WAC FCS foes in the spring to warm up for the fall 2021 FBS schedule.

Going to be interesting to see what the weather does. The forecast has changed many times and I’m sure will do so again, but 30 degrees and no precipitation. At one point snow was possible.

The governor did not "cancel the fall football season for all New Mexico schools".

It’s a different time of year and COVID restrictions and hurricane damage will obviously change things a lot but in normal times McNeese has one of the better tailgating experiences around. I’d rate their tailgating higher than most of the FBS schools ACU has played. I hope if you go you can get a taste of the experience.

Oh, wait. The game is at Tarleton. Never mind. If it’s a return game you should plan to go.

RE: FCS & NMSU 2021 Spring Season
Two games have put Tarleton State on the map.

Should’ve beat McNeese and then, defeated NMSU handily with five offensive starters out. Texans will likely get top 25 votes this week (confirmed as SHSU beat writer did) and would’ve potentially been top 25 if they didn’t squander McNeese game.

Tarleton is turning eyes early on. Good for them! Good for all of us

RE: FCS & NMSU 2021 Spring Season
I vote in the FCS top 10 poll on FB and until this year for the AGS top 25. I put Tarleton at #10 this week, mostly because a lot of teams haven’t played a down yet and I thought the Texans deserved their moment in the sun. Their win over even a hapless FBS team is more impressive than Nicholls or Jackson State beating up on dinky schools from lower classifications.

I was just going by what she said when we were visiting Ruidoso last August. It was just talk at the time.

My top 4 are exactly the same and 8 of my top 10. I have Wofford (11 in stats poll) and tarleton (22) based on impressive wins this weekend. Tarleton probably won’t stick since the Texans play a weak schedule going forward. Wofford is always a tough team.

That does not bode well for NMSU. What a sad state the NMSU football team is in right now. Congrats to Dixie for the win.

Either that, or you grossly underestimated your new conference mates.

Meh. It doesn't matter. Its just practice right now. All we can do it use this time to try and improve. We're only one game into a long year of football.

Look towards August 28th and UTEP.

The Stats poll is gonna look way different this week following what has to be near record of upsets. Of local interest....bye, bye Tarleton, and maybe Hello Dixie. Sam Houston jumps to the Top 10?

I just submitted my AGS poll. I have SHSU at 5.

Correct! It's just practice. It's spring ball. It's not the fall. The mindset right now is just different. Plus, it doesn't help that so many starters have decided to transfer or sit out the season. NMSU would easily beat both Tarleton and Dixie if the games are played in the fall.

I am not sold on Tarleton State -

They clumsily gave away the McNeese game (and we saw what happened to McNeese this past week). They lost to Dixie State and then put up a pretty good margin of victory over New Mexico State.

If Tarleton State is just so-so and still had no problems dusting aside NMSU, I am not sure the Aggies would've stood a chance even last fall or this fall against the Texans. Now, certainly you have some of the outside factors (i.e. COVID) playing into things particularly for the NMSU sports - but that aside, the Aggies are a FBS program while Tarleton State is barely even a Div I program.
