Monday Musings
Congrats to Pat O'Connor and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for dominating the Super Bowl and proving the theory of the blind side. 2nd most important player on offense is the Left tackle.
I am now starting to believe Coach Fife from MSU may be more available then we think. The two Clarkston kids Loyer, and Kither are really struggling at the B1G level and I have to believe fife was the lead recruiter there. Izzo does seem like a patient coach but a missed tournament could force some changes there.
Get your self a Mat Ishiba every school!

Dear fanfrompowellspub,
The dominating was certainly helped by two or three penalties that in my opinion should not have been called.
They also kept drives alive at the time they were called, for Tampa Bay.
What I didn't understand is the Chief's re-alingment of their offensive line. With your left tackle out of the game, you replace him, not shift the entire line to different positions.

Agree, Ken. Those series of penalties at the end of the first half turned the game

I would hypothesize the Drunk Driving crash of Andy Reid's son Britt had more on the Chiefs then the calls. I think Reid might retire after this incident being its the 2nd involving one of his sons.

I'm sure they had some hard choices to make that didn't work out best for them. If you believe your next best guy at Left Tackle is already a starter elsewhere on your line, you have to start shifting. And if you follow that reasoning then you fill his position with the next best guy who may also be a starter elsewhere.

All of a sudden you have a few guys playing new positions, and you get an anti-synergistic effect wherein the whole is less than the sum of its parts. On paper, you have your best available player in each position. But on the field, the lack of experience as a group in those positions brings the whole squad down. Hence demonstrating the value of true depth at each position from which you can pull the "next man up", and not jeopardize the integrity of the whole squad.

Fisher was the only OL that was lost late in season.
This group played together most of the season and led the NFL in Total Offense for the regular season and #2 for the playoffs.

Dear Boca Rocket,
cidbearit's point is well stated. Just because the offensive line of Kansas City played together most of the season, doesn't mean there will not be problems when one is put in a different position. If, nothing else, your technique will change because you are not familiar with the new position.

The musical chairs that Kansas City played with their line definitely affected the outcome. Wylie was shifted from guard to right tackle. He struggled there. As I recall he played rt at Eastern but blocking those edge rushers in the NFL is a different ball game.

Sil Cornachione recruited me as an OG for UVA. Thought I was headed to Stanford except they had a Head Coaching/staff change.
Landed at Vandy until my mom became seriously ill. Went to UT while I helped out with younger siblings. Been ask to Coach at the HS level a few times. Just couldn't make a commitment because of time.
Familiar with gap responsibilities, techniques, and alignments.

Thanks for sharing...I was unaware of how Wylie's NFL tenure developed. I think many people might have given up at some point during all that action in 2017. You are right in your comment about hard work and persistence!

Was reading a Detroit News article about a 6' 11" GUARD at UDM. So I pulled up the stats. They have the best bunch of 3-point shooters you'll find around mid-major hoops. Amazing.

Dear steve,
Yes it is. I think Sill Hall was originally opened in the early sixties, so Eastern has come a long way with this expansion. At the time Sill was opened, paint and coatings, were part of the programs there. I wonder if they are still part of the curriculum?

Yes, and what a chance in the world since the 60s. I believe the space program caused us (U.S.) to really accelerate our science program and tech has taken off in the last 50 years.

The Soviet didn't realize what they did by starting a space war.

I remember my first computer programming courses - code on CARDS. Later I would do computer jobs (work) from home at night in the 80s using a 300 baud (bits per seconds) modem. Later I upgraded to 1200 baud.

Compare 300 bits per seconds to what we can get with our broadband which might be 50 or 100 mbps which are consumer speeds.

We definitely live in a live where science and tech are driving the world. I believe the mRNA technology being used in the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines was developed in say the last 10 - 12 years. I read once we got the genome from the Chinese lab it took days to program the vaccine.
