OVC
Western Illinois by Matt Brown is expected to join the OVC but could Chicago St also join OVC with them?

RE: OVC
Chicago St only goes to the OVC if they get desperate. Something catastrophic would need to occur

If CSU gets desperate or if the OVC gets desperate? I think CSU is already desperate so I assume you mean OVC. If so, I completely agree with your post.

OVC is the party that would need to be in desperate and dire straits.

RE: OVC
Matt Brown has referenced the possibility before.

OVC is down to seven football schools (Morehead plays in Pioneer) and the league could potentially lose more schools.

OVC needs to get to nine as everyone loves eight games (four home / four away) in conference. Western Illinois was hemming and hawing when asked about it. They are certainly exploring and their football would be much more competitive in OVC and you guys can make comparisons between OVC and The Summit.

OVC has no need to add a basketball school. The issue is the basketball schools are going to be hard to get someone into the league because of their votes but they know football needs to survive

RE: OVC
There are 2 willing schools OVC would add before CSU:
1) WIU
2) Southern Indiana

So if we were to get an OVC invite, the following would need to happen:
-- 10 members --
Austin Peay leaves for ASUN (9)
WIU repleces APSU (10)
Murray St leaves for MVC (9)
Belmont leaves for MVC/SoCon (8)
USI replaces Murray St (9)

At this point, OVC could stick with 9 or add us for 10. So it's still 5 or so steps off.

The 3 IL schools would probably bat for CSU, because they recruit Chicago and CSU is the only Chicagoland school they could feasibly be in a conference with.

9 OVC members at that point:
1 EIU
2 WIU
3 SIUE
4 USI
5 SEMO
6 Morehead
7 Tennessee St
8 Tennessee Tech
9 Tennessee-Martin

OVC doesn't have a route to get to 9 FB schools. The only FB school willing to join them is WIU. 8 works fine for them because Tennessee St only plays 7 OVC games, so now they can make that uniform instead of screwing up the standings with the TSU exemption.

We'll see.

I think the OVC has to get on the offensive as they are certainly liable to lose another institution or two.

These are very strange times. Who would think that the WAC would have football once again and particularly with the schools we are talking about? That the MEAC would lose half their league over a few year time span and that some of those schools wouldn't end up in the SWAC?

Matt Brown has made mentioned about how WIU the OVC choice and should happen sooner than later.

Source is pretty clear but I'd invite you to keep looking for what you need to verify it. It's out there.

Oh, the OVC needs to get on the offensive for sure. Their problem is they're at the bottom of the food chain. WIU and Chicago St are the only 2 D1 members they could convince to join. After WIU, they're out of FB options. No FB school is leaving their current home for the OVC, aside from WIU.

The OVC is in real trouble if they lose a few more members.

All I can find is a tweet where Matt Brown says “Watch for WIU.” From what I can tell, there is no evidence of any sort of talks or interest. But I’m also not sure, because OP refused to provide a source. It seems that this thread is speculating on the outcome of Matt Brown’s speculation.

If there is anything those on the WACbbs have learned in the last four to six months is not to treat any comments by Matt Brown as 'speculation'. He seems to be very well connected at the FCS ranks and was the first to break the story about the schools heading to the WAC and a few other nuggets surrounding the recent realignment with the ASUN situation.

sure, so when he puts out something definite, or implies that it's actually under consideration, then I'm all for it. All he's said is "Watch for WIU" which anyone could credibly say because of geography. But again, I'm not certain that's all that he said.

RE: OVC
But as long as everyone's ok with me talking out of my ass, I guess that I'll say this. WIU to the OVC could have some undesirable implications for the WAC. I'd expect Seattle to take a hard look at the Summit. Minneapolis, Kansas City, Omaha, and Denver are all hella easy flights, and with travel partners they wouldn't have to visit the Dakotas that often. It's a much better institutional fit, too.

That is what he said and if he wasn’t “sure”, he would have mentioned something generic or nothing. He specifically said WIU.

When Matt Brown said SUU was the school the Tarleton president was taking about, resident realignment dunce DavidS said it was WTAMU and that Matt was lying. Matt isn’t some guy throwing pooh against the wall like some of the posters on CSNBBS.

If the OVC loses Austin Peay (another rumor) they would be down to six FB schools (FCS min.). They better hope for WIU or they will really be hurting. There are NO other football possibilities that I can see.

Unless its Chicago State specifically, is potential OVC realignment really a WAC topic?

McNeese, possibly, or other current Southland schools from LA
