RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
Our good guys had their best day of the season, with the offense exploding for 18 runs to sweep a twinbill from Elon
at Plumeri, 6-4 and 12-9. Win the finale with Elon today and we're still, remarkably, in the running for the CAA Playoffs.

RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
After yesterday’s sweep, conference RPI:

51 Northeastern
94 UNCW
112 Hofstra
169 WM
184 CofC
206 Towson
217 Delaware
224 Elon
270 JMU

WM is 8-18 but have had by far the toughest schedule in the conference (SOS of 39).

Apparently, we're dodging ODU (at least if you ask them): https://csnbbs.com/thread-917009-page-27.html

We took 2 of 3 vs JMU this weekend. Zach Tsakounis hurled 7 innings and only gave up 5 hits.

Beat UNCW 5-3. We had 4 runs in the first inning.

Now 3-1 vs the 'hawks this season.

RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
Smacked at Duke last evening, 11-6, as nine Tribe pitchers could not stop the Blue Devils.

Big series this weekend will decide CAA Tourney fate.

Baseball CAA title, while farfetched given the lack of hurling depth on this team, is College's last attempt at
chance to win a CAA crown or become the first year in memory where we failed to win even one team title.

The CAA website says that 6 teams will qualify for the baseball championship, but there is no further discussion of the format. Does anyone know if its the top 3 teams from each division, the top 6 records regardless of division, or some combination? For instance, based on winning percentages, the top 6 teams right now are Northeastern, followed by all 5 teams in the South Division.

RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
Terrible meltdown in 9th inning yesterday by our guys turns 4-1 lead into eight run COC inning and awful 9-4
loss in critical opening game of series. Strain pitched magnificently for 7 1/3 innings but pitching collapse
by two relievers in 9th (four walks and a Tribe error in the mix) doomed W&M.

A ghastly loss to say the least: must win today and tomorrow.

All of the runs in the 9th were unearned.

Top format is very similar to the last few years, with one key difference: The top team from each division gets the top 2 seeds and accompanying 1st round bye. Right now, that would mean Northeastern and Charleston would be the # 1 and 2 seeds, respectively, if the season ended today.

The remaining seeds are essentially "Wild Cards". The 4 non-division leaders with the best winning percentages get in.

If the season ended today, this would be the field:

1. Northeastern* (12-0, 1.000)
2. Charleston+ (9-7, .562)
3. Elon (8-7, .533)
4. UNCW (8-8, .500)
5. W&M (9-10, .474)
6. Towson (6-7, .462)

* # 1 seed, 1st round bye
+ # 2 seed, 1st round bye

JMU, Hofstra and Delaware (7-9 in standings) would be eliminated. While Northeastern has all but locked up the # 1 overall seed, the # 2 seed is up for grabs between any of the South Division teams (Charleston, Elon, UNCW, W&M, JMU) depending on how the season finishes.

On Day 1 of the tournament, # 4 UNCW would face # 5 W&M, # 3 Elon would take on # 6 Towson, and the 2 losers of those games would face off in an elimination game to finish the day. Northeastern and Charleston would face the winners from Day 1, with NU facing the lowest-seeded winner. Meaning they could face anyone but Elon.

RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
With another ugly day at Plumeri yesterday that resulted in 10-1, 5-4 doubleheader defeats and a loss of all games of the three-game weekend
series, the Tribe baseball teams stands at 9-12 in the CAA and looking outside the CAA playoffs.

We've lost five in a row (4 CAA games plus Duke) and would have to sweep a three-game series at JMU next weekend to get back into it.
The team's overall record sank to 12-25...we're thankful they aren't playing the usual 60+ game schedule this season.

Let's hope we're recruiting some solid pitchers this year: this year's edition has very few.

RE: 2021 WM Baseball Season
Pitching is not where it needs to be, but that's not why we're losing so many games. Of our 17 hitters who have at bats this year, only 6 are hitting above .200. We don't have players who can hit D1 pitching. Unlike other sports where freshmen generally need a year or so to improve, hitters transition well from high school. To me, this is the bigger issue heading into next season.
