RE: Cal Bap ~@ New Mexico State
I guess the “old relics of the past”may be back??? Three 4 star freshman coming in to play garbage minutes vs a very good team. Rust is coming off and practicing at home making a difference. NMSU looks like it’s gonna be fine after all.

Gilyard and Tillman were solid tonight as well as Henry. McKines didn't start well but he finished strong. Not sure what game you were watching tonight. NMSU pretty much dominated Cal Baptist all night. The defense was great tonight.
I’m not sure what posts you are reading tonight.

Yes it is. Imagine how good NMSU could be if our senior actually improved from last season; their junior year. NMSU won this game because they played defense to the same level as Jans' teams from prior years. If you look at who is improving; it's our underclassmen.
I know you want to make me eat my word... but not too long ago, you had a different opinion of Will McNair. I feel this Aggie senior class is simply not as talented as last season's senior class. Therefore, we need more production from our underclassmen this season. Fortunately, Jabari Rice is only a Junior.

I’ve eaten my words with Big Will multiple times. I admit when I’m wrong. I’m wrong all the time. And I will admit to it. I even posted tonight that Big Will is becoming my favorite player. Most of our seniors have improved from last season, McCants being the exception. We have only played 8 games. I expect him to improve on last season when it’s all said and done.

Some of these posts by Aggie fans are just sad.

So, what you’re saying’ is.....the seniors HAVE gotten better, at least in the small sample size that this season presents.
I think we are going to be OK. I will admit to being a bit skeptical about this season for reasons already mentioned. That said, I don’t want to start jumping for joy over one game, just like I tried to keep it calm (with varying degrees of success) when we didn’t play as well. Having one good game is good, sustaining that success over the rest of whatever season we get to have is better!
GO AGGIES!!!

Yes, once Ivan Aurrecoechea, Trevelin Queen, Terrell Brown, CJ Bobbitt, Shunn Buchanan, AJ Harris are gone, it is natural Henry, Gilyard, and McCants stats would go up as they are now more depended on. One telling point is Tillman just joined the Aggie squad and yet he is the top scorer and marquee player of this group. McCants hasn't made the big leap to being our best player; in fact he has regressed athletically. And, up until last night, Gilyard hadn't taken the bull by the horns and led this team to a consequential win as our team leader. Tillman aside, McCants, Henry, and Gilyard have only made small if any incremental improvements; essentially being plateaued in their development from a season ago. With these guys now the ones setting the (performance) bar for the others, it now falls on our new guys and underclassmen to match or exceed our seniors; if we want to improve as a program. They are the ones improving by leaps and bounds.

It's kind of premature to judge the seniors. This squad has missed around 8-9 weeks of practice and only played 4 games between the end of November and the GCU series. I think people really need to chill right now.

Good win for the Aggies over CBU. For CBU, they got a split, which was a good outcome for the Lancers. Also good for the Lancers was a sweep by the Lady Lancers over the Lady Aggies. CBU's women's basketball team is 16-0 for the season. They cannot play in the NCAA Tournament, but they can play in the Women's NIT, which is not run by the NCAA.

It was good to see NMSU win, but I still think they will look like a yo yo a lot this season. Congrats to CBU for doing what they needed to do in game 1.

If we play defense like we did last night, we should be good.

NMSU did see a small glimpse of the future with all them four-star players getting some playing time at the end. That Marcus Watson is a future WAC Player of the Year.

Watson will need to wait his time. Jabari Rice should be a WAC Player of the Year first.

So far, its been too much of a botched up, cobbled together season to see many strong trends emerge. Scoring averages and other stats mean little at this point because its been so disjointed. A few more weekends are needed to see a truer picture emerge I feel.

Jabari Rice on paper should win it first but it don't always work that way once it is all said and done.
