RE: Matthew Trickett
He entered the transfer portal a few days ago. He's a graduate transfer that has two years of eligibility remaining.

RE: Matthew Trickett
That means he graduated in three years, which is impressive for anyone, let alone a student-athlete.

Not surprising for a graduate of Saint Ignatius.

RE: Matthew Trickett
this is a head-scratcher.. univ minnesota is middle of the road non-descript football program. KSU is WAY fun, exciting, up-n-coming program with sean lewis & dustin crum at the helm.

does his GF go to univ minnesota?
falling-out with coach lewis and/or teammates?

i just don't get it 01-wingedeagle

PS same can be said of roberts leaving KSU basketball for st bonaventure

RE: Matthew Trickett
Agreed, very disappointing, thought when he was going in the portal he had knowledge of landing in a bigger program like OSU.

Also wish the young man the best going forward. Just sucks all the way around. You can’t beat these schools for recruits, they had no interest in the kids out of HS, yet they go to a place like KSU for that chance and when they develop them the big boys come back in and snipe your talent away. The G5, minors leagues to the P5...

P5's need to pay compensation whenever they get a developed player from a G5.

I'm always amazed that a player would leave behind three years of equity - tracking for scoring records and such, not to mention potential (name your school) HOF or number retired - thinking the grass is always greener.

To me, that's a lot to throw away, but these kids are doing it at the drop of a hat. Football and basketball.

The times we live in.

Agree cleveland .

It’s cut the entertainment value of NCAA athletics in half, or more, in this household.

That's a fascinating idea. Never gonna happen. But still interesting to think about.

It’s not the kids that have changed it’s the overall society. Any person or organization that makes a lot of money automatically triggers the little guy isn’t getting his share response. In NCAA sports that meant let them move at will and hire agents to get advertising money and will eventually lead to them getting paid. Any generation of kids would have jumped at that opportunity. Be honest.Would you rather be in the Kent State HOF or making money playing basketball in Europe or wherever. If your glued to the bench in Kent why not take a chance and transfer. Same thing if your good at Kent and have a chance to prove your worth in the Big Ten (yes even at Northwestern). None of this even takes into account that 18-20 year olds like to try new things just for the hell of it. If there are no more penalties why not move. There are no more Division 1,2 and 3. It’s the Major League, Triple A, Double A and Single A. Might as well get used to it. In the Pros I never much enjoyed the minor league games and I am afraid I’m headed in the same direction with college sports. I get into the championships (Clemson, Alabama, Ohio St. etc). The minor leagues are a way to kill some time. Kind of like a Monsters hockey game.

RE: Matthew Trickett
If he graduated, it might be more to do with what he wants to do in the future than football. I don’t even know what his major is because it isn’t posted on the Kentstatesports.com website, which, in itself, is a problem.

I also hope he made a wise choice and doesn’t end up regretting what he had at KSU while he competes as Minny also took a grad transfer kicker from Temple.

RE: Matthew Trickett
couple things to consider:

- he's from NE Ohio so he's never been out of NE ohio. maybe he wants that experience.
- maybe its been a dream to play in big Ten. MAC and Big ten are 2 different universes in game day experience.
- i don't know specifics of his NFL future but i'd suspect he has a chance. having kicked in the elements of NE ohio and now minnesota cant hurt his nfl prospects.

maybe he realizes that Lewis will leave next year if they have any success. Btw, Minnesota and Big Ten football is not St. Bonaventure.

RE: Matthew Trickett
No, Minnesota is not St. Bonaventure, but other than a good 2019 season they've been a perennial also-ran for a long, long time.
