RE: Conf strength and the eye test
Speaking of conference strength, Houston is playing Our Lady of the Lake today. Our Lady of the Lake? Our Lady of the Lake? ?????

Probably something something Pastner something Tubby something PENNY BAD something...

First they are ranked ahead of us in all metrics outside of Kenpom...

They have less losses

4-3 in quad 1/2 games vs. our 3-5

Only 1 bad loss Vs. our 3

But hey...Don't look anything up...Just react.

Right now we would have to argue that we didn't have Deandre to clearly win this argument.

What?

When you posted that, SMU was only ahead of us in one single metric - the NET. We were ahead in KenPom, BPI, and Sagarin.
Today, we are ahead of SMU in NET, KenPom, Sagarin, and BPI. I see literally no ranking service where they are ahead.

Also, we have only 1 bad loss. Tulsa at home was a Quad3 loss. Our other 5 losses were Q1 and Q2.

Overall record? Come on, that is never a criteria.

Yet you tell ME to look it up?
First off wasn't talking to you...Talking to the person who posted the snark.

My opinion is they are ahead of us right now and we have work to do. I don't think it is an invalid argument at all. We still have work to do.

It is ok for you to have a differing opinion...

Ok, I get the snark.

Fact is, your reasoning was wrong - both with the rankings you used as an explanation, and in the number of bad losses.

It is ok for you to have a differing opinion from me, KenPom, Sagarin, ESPN, and the NCAA though.

If anyone on the committee is watching this SMU v. ECU game, the conference is screwed. This exhibition has set back the game of basketball at least a generation.

And the rankings I looked up that morning had SMU ahead of us...I assume they were not updated (I think I looked at Kenpom, Net and Espns Rankings).

And Secondly didn't you say a few days ago it was up in the air between us and SMU a few days ago...

Your words were "we are neck and neck"...You opinion has completely changed in a week with wins over ECU and UCF...Surely not.

As I said before you just like to argue...You even like to argue when you don't even have a strong opinion about what you are discussing...

And for completeness SMU is ahead of us in BPI and the Net

My opinion is we still have work to do.

I did say, and still believe, it is up for grabs between us, SMU, and even Wichita. But to retrace how we got here, I simply asked you why you said SMU was ahead of us. Then the reasons you gave were invalid - quoting rankings that were not accurate, bad losses that were exaggerated, and using overall record which is irrelevant. So I pointed those fallacies. That is all. It's fine if you have a different opinion, but don't post inaccuracies to support it.

It's not that I like to argue. It's that some posters on here claim to be fans, but they never show any signs of fandom - always playing the devil's advocate or "keeping it real". When you do that over and over, you can expect to get challenged on a fan board.

He thought that we should have to forfeit against Houston because of covid, so he definitely has a weird self loathing thing going.

Lol...

I am another thread on here defending Penny...Have also said this team is one player away from being very good.

Everyone does not have to toe the line for every issue...Free thought is a thing...But Crusade away if you must.

And what I posted was not inaccurate at the time...As I said those three ratings were what they were that morning...SMU was ahead of us. Bad losses are what they are...You say exaggerated like it is a fact...That is your opinion.

I feel statistically that SMU is ahead of us...You feel they are equal.

Your quote on ratings was not accurate. You posted on 2/4 that SMU was ahead in all rankings except KenPom. All you have to do is look at the "Rankings" thread and it is clearly documented what the rankings were for the Tigers on 2/4 when you posted. Here is the excerpt...

2/4, after the UCF win:
KenPom #47, up 3. Offense #130, Defense #4. Second in AAC.
NET #60, up 2. Third in AAC.
BPI #52, up 1. Second in AAC.
Sagarin #53, up 2. Second in AAC.

Bad losses are universally accepted to be any Quad 3 or 4 losses. We have 1 of those. You claimed we have 3.

And to be clear, I think we are neck and neck with SMU - but if the season ended right now, we are ahead, IMO.

It is fine for you to have a different opinion. Just don't try to act like it's fact-based.
