RE: Unofficial Pre-Spring Ball FB Thread
This whole QB situation is going to be one of the more interesting things to follow. Based on the WMU game from two years ago and a "whole" season of starting, I've been really impressed with Hutchinson, have no worries about him as the starting QB, and think he can be all-MAC. Behind him you have May (who I think will be the next great EMU QB), bringing in Smith, and at the time still had Steibeling and Grissom (who was listed as a QB). So while you always want to add talent to your roster, you won't think the coaching staff would spend a ton of effort into finding a new QB. Enter Ben Bryant.

Ben was a pretty highly recruited guy (really highly by EMU standards) and was the backup on a top 10 team behind a guy that might play in the NFL. So you'd think the staff probably had to pursue him pretty hard. After reading about him it sounds like he would (hopefully) be a better version of Hutchinson.

I just hope there were no promises made or anything like that and the best guy plays. Hopefully it is a great competition and brings out the best in all these guys! If Bryant is the best guy, absolutely play him no questions asked. I just hope this isn't a thing of "big time transfer from a big time team, big time recruit we gotta play him."

You and I agree on all of this.

We have a very, very deep quartet of QBs, with varying degrees of experience.

As you indicate, Hutch has all-MAC potential (he has his best days ahead of him), and a very capable sub, Bryant, who is also good enough to start.

I always loved May's tape. If he was bigger he'd be a P5 QB.

Smith is a good prospect, but I know little about him.

ON PAPER, everyone gets to play IN TIME. What I mean is that the QB's eligibility really spread out from redshirt senior (with bonus year) to true frosh.

Could Hutchinson learn to slide like this?

One thing I have found odd is there has been no mention of I'Shawn Stewart. He is not listed on the roster yet, no press release, 247 still has him listed in the transfer portal but does not have him listed as an EMU commit. He still list EMU as his school on twitter. There must be some kind of snag, Eastern seem to get the news of Latrell Fordham out quickly and he committed after Stewart.

I'm not sure, I would assume probably not until the summer since there hasn't been any mention of him. If that is the case it is too bad, would have been nice to get a transfer with a few years of PAC 12 experience in ASAP.

Winter workouts end this coming week, and then they shift directly into Spring Practice. Based on what I've been able to gather, there is no official announcement about a Spring Game yet.

If you have been following EMU Football on Twitter the past few weeks, you can't help but be impressed by the guys posting individually about their achievements in working toward their Winter Workout goals. Guys who needed to add a few pounds have done so; guys who needed to lose some weight have done so; many reports of new PR's (personal records) in speed, endurance, and strength; and generally a very positive attitude about the physical improvements the team is making as a whole. They now have 8 guys on the squad who have bench pressed over 400 pounds. This team will definitely come into this next season bigger, stronger, and faster. They will be a force to be reckoned with!

Good call Cid. I have been following it and it's been cool to see. What I like best is seeing the guys re-post other players goals. Another example of how CC recruits a certain type of player. One that cares about the success of the Team. Great seeing the accomplishments and a cool idea to have these guys see results and build even more.

If we finish 6-6 with the schedule next year, then CC needs to be let go........8-4 has to be the number! 3-1 OOC and 5-3 MAC is an absolute must in year 8! Did he list wins and loses?

My reason for being so strong about having to achieve that record is, Neu and Leipold, and Martin all won MAC titles in less years! All 3 were really struggling before they arrived! 8-10 years is a long time without winning a championship! Some on here might disagree!

If CC goes 6-6 next year he isn't going to get fired. I have to look up his contract but it runs I believe through 2022.

Yeah i'm inclined to agree. his contract has 2 more years on it and EMU isnt the kind of school to pays guys NOT to coach. they would have to fall off a dang cliff to fire him. or have some terrible scandal.
