JUST FYI .... weird.
Roberts era at St. Bonaventure ended after three games. Left the team (although death of relative did play a part).
From the SB coach ...
"We had a long history on Roberts, recruiting him out of high school, and I had him on my list of kids I would like, but he went to Kent St. So I was pleased when he decided to transfer to us, and then sitting out the year (per NCAA transfer requirement), I figured he would get to know the system, and at least be a starter his senior year, if not his junior year.
"... I was excited. Alas the Covid transfer rule adjustments ended that, and other than not being a starter, he never really got to mesh with the team (like Adaway last year), so after watching his body language in his 3 games, I was concerned, now he is gone, and soon to be forgotten."

strange for sure.
he is talented as all get out. really loved his game last year. got lots of playing time last year. was going to get even more playing time with ksu this year. still don't understand why he left.
head scratcher...

I agree, Cleveland. The grass is NOT always greener. That whole Roberts case was bizarre.
Thanks, Fallsdog, for the video. In my coaching days I never went above jr. high coaching and never wanted to. Even then, I saw the attitude of HS kids and their parents starting to go south. I hear from coaches i know that now it's much worse. I think at the collegiate level the X's and O's and game prep must be the easy part. Recruiting the right kids and keeping everyone buying in to the team concept I bet is awful.

RE: JUST FYI .... weird.
I was wondering how things would be if Roberts had stayed. I can imagine his playing time would have decreased. He would likely have been no better than Nuga. I doubt he could dish out assists like Santiago. He certainly is not as good a defender as Jacobs. It's likely, I would think, his minutes would have decreased somewhat, unless they went "small", and he may have been unhappy about that. He didn't stay, of course, so it's mere speculation. But Nuga's injury aside, I find it hard to think they would have been any better had he stayed, even though he was a terrific player.

With Roberts and body language - watching from the stands, I didn't expect much out of him. His body language didn't show that he was excited to be out there. His production was much better than that. He was skilled, he just didn't have the swagger that told everyone that he knew he was skilled.
Kind of a complete 180 from someone like Marquiez Lawrence - his body language was all enthusiasm, but his execution wasn't up to par.

GoKsuFlashes, of course we could use him now. That's why I stated "But Nuga's injury aside...". But BEFORE Nuga's injury I question whether his leaving mattered much.

I think Sendy really liked him from day 1. When he likes someone he puts up with some crap. Walker comes to mind. I think Roberts would probably be the 3rd guard starting and we'd see less of Beck on the wing. Then fewer minutes for Jordan and Hernandez. Plus there's a chance Jacobs isn't here. I believe he committed after Roberts transfered.

This isn’t that weird. What’s really weird is I just secured my tickets to the 2022 MAC Tournament. Think they will have one with fans??

Out of an abundance of need for revenue....yes. See you at Flannerys in 2022. Oh wait. That’s not a thing anymore.

Think they will give me my two years of interest on the $100? At today’s rates that might be twenty five cents!

He wanted to be the man at Kent. When Pippen decided to stay he left. If he had stayed, one or more of the Jacobs, Jordan, Smith combo would not be here.

Jordan signed in early signing period ... Jacobs was next followed by Smith. Jacobs was never a scorer in juco, which indicates to me Smith was the replacement for Roberts. ... In the end, the big benefactor for Roberts leaving was Gio, at least in terms of minutes. Nuga clearly not a PG ... Roberts (like Booman) could have been a decent PG starter leading to a primary 3/gd rotation of Nuga, Roberts and Jacobs w/Gio getting leftover minutes. In the end, probably worked out the best overall for Kent w/o him.

Can someone please explain why TK Smith does not appear to be available this year? Is it a injury?

Let me clarify ... that was not a statement based on talent. It was based on what seemed to be (at Kent and St. Bona) bad body language/team chemistry or whatever you want to call it.
The ??? is would he have fit in with the arrival of Jordan and Jacobs, not to mention fighting for minutes with Gio and Hernandez. Jacobs sits apart from the other three because he does (did) not need to score to produce. Nuga is a top tier scorer and Roberts quite likely saw that in practice.
Gio's 3-point shooting is elite. It seems Hernandez gets minutes for his defense. Roberts probably combined the two talents better than either of them, but ...
Clearly at Kent and St. Bona Roberts wanted to be the focal point. Not sure the makeup of this Kent team would have benefitted from that. As a talent, no doubt he would help. As a personality ????
